CNN"I do think that we should be realistic about what's going to work. And just flipping a switch and saying we're instantly going to have everybody on Medicare just like that -- isn't realistic," the South Bend, Indiana, mayor said in an interview with CNN's David Axelrod slated to air Saturday night.
"I think that when it comes to a lot of these policies that we're being pushed to do -- say that we can pay down the last penny of tuition for any student including the child of a billionaire. These are things that are questionable on their merits and of course also pretty far out ... from where Americans are."
In the crowded Democratic field, a majority of candidates have said they support some form of a single-payer health care, but disagreement over how to achieve universal health care has come to the forefront both on the campaign trail and on the debate stage. Of the 20 candidates on the two debate stages during the first round of Democratic debates, just four raised their hands when asked who backed the elimination of private health insurance -- Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kamala Harris of California, along with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Inslee knocks Sanders, 2020 rivals over filibuster support
PoliticoThough the 2020 presidential field is overflowing with ambitious policy proposals, nuking the 60-vote threshold to overcome minority opposition in the Senate has given many Democrats pause — especially among the current and former senators atop the polls. Sen. Elizabeth Warren has expressed support for ending the filibuster, but Sens. Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker and Michael Bennet have warned against getting rid of it, while Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand have been cautious on the issue.
But in an interview with POLITICO reporters and editors, Inslee said rivals’ most important policy priorities don’t have “a chance in hell” without filibuster reform.
"My opponents and the other aspirants in the race have really sincere, powerful things they want to get done," Inslee said. "None of which would have a chance in hell of getting done if they continue to cling to this filibuster. There is no way that Mitch McConnell is going to let major climate change legislation to the Senate floor. Even if we have 59 votes. He's not going to let it happen."

DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Barry was located
near latitude 29.6 North, longitude 92.0 West. Barry is moving
toward the northwest near 6 mph (9 km/h), and a turn toward the
north-northwest is expected tonight, followed by a turn toward the
north on Sunday. On the forecast track, the center of Barry will
move through southern Louisiana today, into central Louisiana
tonight, and into northern Louisiana on Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds are now near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher
gusts. As it moves inland, Barry is forecast to weaken below
hurricane strength in the next few hours, and it is forecast to
weaken to a tropical depression on Sunday.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) to
the east of the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward
up to 175 miles (280 km) from the center. The National Ocean
Service station at Eugene Island, Louisiana recently reported
sustained winds of 62 mph and a wind gust of 82 mph.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 993 mb (29.33 inches).

RAINFALL: Barry is expected to produce total rain accumulations of
10 to 20 inches over south-central and southeast Louisiana and
southwest Mississippi, with isolated maximum amounts of 25 inches.
Across the remainder of the Lower Mississippi Valley and western
portions of the Tennessee Valley, total rain accumulations of 4 to 8
inches are expected, with isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches.
This rainfall is expected to lead to dangerous, life threatening
flooding.
WIND: Hurricane conditions are occurring over a small area east of
the center and should persist for a few more hours. Hurricane
conditions are possible within the Hurricane Watch area today.
Tropical storm conditions are occurring across the Tropical Storm
Warning area to the east of the center at this time. Wind gusts
to tropical-storm force in squalls are possible along portions of
the coasts of Mississippi, Alabama, and the western Florida
Panhandle through tonight.
TORNADOES: A few tornadoes are possible through tonight across
the southeast Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and southern Alabama.

The gloves are coming off in the Capitol Hill brawl between Democratic moderates and progressives.
Queens Democratic boss and 11-term congressman Greg Meeks took a thinly-veiled jab at fellow Big Apple Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday, urging her to back off her racially-tinged feud with party leaders or face a fight for her political life.
In an interview with the Daily News, Meeks fumed over Ocasio-Cortez’s recent racial beef with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and pushed back against her left-wing allies at Justice Democrats for openly backing insurgent candidates trying to unseat members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Rep. Moulton: Democrats shouldn't go on 'moral crusade' against Trump
PoliticoMoulton is polling at the back of the pack seeking the Democratic nomination for president, and he didn’t make it on the stage for the first primary debate last month. But from his perspective, his party is overestimating its chances at beating Trump in 2020, Moulton said Thursday in a wide-ranging interview with POLITICO reporters and editors.
The Democratic front-runners are too focused on convincing Americans of Trump’s failings, Moulton said, and are not presenting a vision of the country that can win over people who supported the president in 2016.
“I think a lot of Democrats think, ‘You know, these Trump voters, what we need to do is we just need to educate them, and we're going to get it through their heads that this guy is a bad guy,’” Moulton said. “OK, Trump voters are not idiots. We don’t need to give America a moral education; they know that he’s an asshole. They get it. They’ve just baked that in.”
