Bruce Harrell leads in Seattle mayoral primary contest, followed by M. Lorena Gonzlez

Seattle Times

Bruce Harrell led Seattle’s mayoral primary election in results reported Tuesday night, with M. Lorena González in second place.

They appeared poised to advance from the top-two nonpartisan contest to the Nov. 2 general election.

Harrell had 38% of the votes included in the count, while González had 29%. More votes — as many as half the expected total, according to election officials — will be tallied in the coming days.

Trailing among 15 candidates on the ballot were Colleen Echohawk with 8%, Jessyn Farrell with 7%, Art Langlie with 6%, Casey Sixkiller with 4% and Andrew Grant Houston with 3%.

Seattle’s general elections for mayor tend to pit a candidate with more support from downtown business leaders and homeowners in neighborhoods with water views against a candidate with more support from progressive activists and renters in neighborhoods with apartments.

New York Democrats prepare to impeach Cuomo

Politico

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Democratic majority in the New York Assembly is preparing to impeach Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he does not resign, a rapid deterioration of their relationship following Tuesday’s devastating allegation that he had sexually harassed 11 women.

That outcome become clear after an emergency meeting of legislators on Tuesday afternoon, hours after state Attorney General Tish James issued a damning report chronicling multiple instances of sexual harassment by the governor. The state Assembly's Judiciary Committee has been looking into impeachment since March.

“After our conference this afternoon to discuss the Attorney General's report concerning sexual harassment allegations against Governor Cuomo, it is abundantly clear to me that the Governor has lost the confidence of the Assembly Democratic majority and that he can no longer remain in office,” Speaker Carl Heastie said in a statement. “Once we receive all relevant documents and evidence from the Attorney General, we will move expeditiously and look to conclude our impeachment investigation as quickly as possible.”

“A lot of people are ready,” said Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan). “The process is going to wind down and then, I believe, you’ll see the Assembly voting on articles of impeachment.”

The Judiciary Committee has a preplanned meeting on Monday to discuss the next steps in its impeachment investigation.

Guess who's not happy about Ohio 11...

Jack Pine Radicals

But it’s a 20% lead , or 4000 votes, for the Corruptocrat, the true Democrat. It looks like the fix is in. Glad I picked up some Irish whisky on the way home.

There was no line when we voted at 5pm, either. I have a bad feeling about this. I also have the feeling that I will completely give up on the electoral process and never vote again, because I can’t trust those who count the votes or program the machines. The democratic republic is dead. There’s no way Nina Turner lost fair and square in this district.

Kathy Hochul, the lieutenant governor, calls Cuomo's behavior 'repulsive.'

Source: New York Times

Should Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo resign, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul would replace him and would become New York State’s first female governor.

A former congresswoman from the Buffalo region and a lawyer, Ms. Hochul has won two elections for lieutenant governor. She is not considered particularly close to Mr. Cuomo.

In a statement, she suggested she retained no allegiance to him, after the release of the state attorney general’s report on Tuesday, which found evidence that Mr. Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women, most of them state employees.

“Sexual harassment is unacceptable in any workplace, and certainly not in public service,” Ms. Hochul said. “The attorney general’s investigation has documented repulsive and unlawful behavior by the governor towards multiple women. I believe these brave women and admire their courage coming forward.”

Karen Bass signals openness to Los Angeles mayoral run

Washington Post

Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), one of the most prominent Black women in Congress and an ally of President Biden, has signaled she is open to running for mayor of Los Angeles in 2022 under encouragement from some Democrats, according to two people familiar with her thinking.

The congresswoman has made no decisions about the race, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. Others voiced skepticism that she would ultimately enter the contest. But Bass’s openness is notable; her stock in Washington has been on the rise in recent years, with some mentioning her as a potential future House speaker or Cabinet official.

Asked for comment on her intentions Tuesday, Bass spokesman Zach Seidl provided a written statement that said, “People are urging her to do it. She is not considering it at this time. Her plan right now is to run for re-election to her House seat in 2022.”

One significant factor in her thinking will be whether Mark Ridley-Thomas, a close friend and Los Angeles City Council member, decides to run, the people familiar with her thinking said. Close observers said they would not expect Bass to challenge Ridley-Thomas. A spokeswoman for Ridley-Thomas did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Biden to issue targeted eviction moratorium

Source: The Hill

President Biden will announce Tuesday a targeted eviction moratorium after a wide-ranging federal ban expired over the weekend, a source familiar with the plans confirmed to The Hill.

The new guidance from the White House will ban evictions in counties with high rates of COVID-19 transmission, the source said, aligning with areas where the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends even vaccinated residents wear masks while indoors.

The new moratorium was expected to be publicly released Tuesday afternoon.

The move comes after days of outcry from Democrats over the lapsed moratorium, which had been in place since the early months of the pandemic. The White House had insisted Monday its hands were tied and only Congress could pass an extension, but Democratic leaders said the Biden administration was in a position to act.

March 16: President Biden says Gov. Cuomo should resign if.....

President Joe Biden said in an interview aired Tuesday that Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign if an investigation confirms the allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Asked by ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos if Cuomo should step down if the investigation confirms the allegations, Biden replied, “Yes.”

“I think he’ll probably end up being prosecuted, too,” Biden said.

The President added that “a woman should be presumed telling the truth and should not be scapegoated and become victimized by her coming forward."
