brooklynite's JournalCoronavirus: Deaconess asks public to sew CDC-compliant face masks for staff
Courier & Press"This does follow CDC protocols that you can find on their website that if all other supplies are not available, that handmade masks that meet certain criteria are acceptable," Deaconess spokeswoman Becca Scott said.
The release with the video, pattern and instructions was posted to the Deaconess Facebook page Thursday morning and is available at www.deaconess.com/masks. A PDF of the pattern is available here and embedded at the bottom of this article.
Deaconess has "a sample video" about how to make the masks, which Scott said will be sterilized when they come in.
Is the Republican dam starting to crack?
There has been outrage across the political spectrum over a shocking report that Senate Intelligence chair Richard Burr (R-NC) dumped as much as $1.7 million in stock just before the market tanked, despite publicly maintaining that the government was on top of the coronavirus. Thursday night on Fox News, Tucker Carlson completely tore into the senator from the Tar Heel state.
In a scathing end-of-show commentary, Carlson called on the senator to either justify his actions, or step down and be indicted.
Maybe there is an honest explanation for what he did, Carlson said. If there is, he should share it with the rest of us immediately. Otherwise, he must resign from the senate and face prosecution for insider trading.

Hawaii airports planning to mandate 14-day home quarantine for incoming residents and visitors
Source: Honolulu Star Advertiser
Hawaii airports will begin mandating a 14-day quarantine for both residents and visitors coming to the islands, according to Lt. Gov. Josh Green.
Green told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser today that the Airports Division of the state Department of Transportation is working up a plan to only allow individuals to come in who will have to home quarantine for 14 days, with the exception of essential and health care workers.
This is something now that can no longer be denied. We have to have a plan that is stricter than we have especially when we see the number of sick individuals in Italy, Green said, adding that the policy should extend at least until April 30. As the health care coordinator on this matter, we have to be safe for our kupuna. Anything short of that would be negligent.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Says Florida is Shutting Down For Spring Breakers: 'The Party is Over'
Source: Mediate
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) announced that hes putting an end to spring break revelry in his state with the coronavirus pandemic growing in the country.
In an interview on Thursday with Fox & Friends, DeSantis was asked if state beaches will be closing in light of vacationers who are adamant about going out and partying in public despite the crisis.
The message I think for spring breakers is the party is over in Florida, DeSantis said. Youre not going to be able to congregate on any beach in the state. Many of the hot spots that people like to go to, whether its Miami beach, Fort Lauderdale and Clearwater Beach are closed entirely for the time being
We would tell those folks maybe come back next year when things are better, but that is not what were looking for.
DeSantis said he wouldnt close down every beach, but stressed that they will be made to comply with the CDCs virus prevention guidelines. He also said that the state has seen high levels of cancellations as tourists have abandoned their plans amid the ongoing situation.

Amazing what public exposure and embarrassment will do to policy decisions.
Tulsi Gabbard suspends presidential campaign, endorses Biden
Source: Axios
Tulsi Gabbard announced Thursday that she will suspend her 2020 Democratic presidential campaign and endorsed Joe Biden.
The state of play: While she was one of the final three candidates left in the race, alongside Biden and Bernie Sanders, the Hawaii congresswoman failed to gain traction in any primary and hadn't qualified for a debate since last year.
She did pick up two delegates in the caucuses in American Samoa, where she was born.
What she's saying: "I know Vice President Biden and his wife and am grateful to have called his son Beau, who also served in the National Guard, a friend. Although I may not agree with the vice president on every issue, I know that he has a good heart and is motivated by his love for our country and the American people," she said in a campaign email.

What will her voter do?
I have rescued my wife and have brought her back to NYC...
Since we expect to be at home for the next 6-8 weeks, we plan to:
Take a walk every day
Buy some lunch from one of the remaining open restaurants in the neighborhood and eat it in the back yard or the park
Identify personal projects to spend time on
Spend time together learning Italian
Why Texas is so far behind other states on virus response
PoliticoAUSTIN, Texas Texas is a big state with a proud small-government philosophy. And thats being tested by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Strict bans on public gatherings to curtail the virus' reach and widespread testing and treatment run counter to the politics of top Texas officials. Instead they're calling on local officials to lead the response.
As governors in states including New York and California have imposed statewide measures such as closing schools and limiting commerce, Texas leaders have been reluctant to set restrictions conservative voters might consider draconian and business leaders oppose. Theyve also opposed steps to expand health insurance coverage.
Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration Friday after dozens of states already had done so and activated the National Guard on Tuesday, after more than a dozen states already had. State officials have yet to impose statewide limits on public gatherings, close schools or beaches or issue a special open enrollment period for health insurance, as California, New York and other big states have. And some health providers say Texas has been slow to boost coronavirus testing capacity and help them meet equipment needs.
