District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. opened the investigation in 2018 to examine alleged hush-money payments made to two women who, during Trumps first presidential campaign, claimed to have had affairs with him years earlier. The probe has since expanded, and now includes the Trump Organization's activities more broadly, said the people familiar with the matter.
Vance has contracted with FTI Consulting to look for anomalies among a variety of property deals, and to advise the district attorney on whether the presidents company manipulated the value of certain assets to obtain favorable interest rates and tax breaks, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity because the matter remains highly sensitive. The probe is believed to encompass transactions spanning several years.

"To win this election in 8 days, we need to continue our historic efforts to turn out every single voter but we won't be able to do that if our fundraising revenue continues to fall," Warnock campaign manager Jerid Kurtz and Ossoff campaign manager Ellen Foster wrote in a memo obtained by NBC News.
According to financial disclosure forms, Warnock and Ossoff both raised more than $100 million over the past two months, outraising their Republican opponents, Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, by a significant margin. But GOP outside groups are outspending Democratic
Outside Democrat groups and high-dollar donors spent big to try and help Democrats regain control of the Senate in the last election pouring in hundreds of millions of dollars in the weeks leading up to November 3rd. Now, after the party performed poorly in down-ballot races, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is no longer meeting with donors, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News.
Schumer is "pessimistic" about Warnock and Ossoff's chances in Georgia next week and doesn't want to ruin donor relationships, the source adds.

Presides over the Senate. That means recognizes Senators to speak and calls for votes. It does not mean he/she gets to select what Bills will be brought up. That is a matter of Senate rules which are determined by the Senate Majority.
The ashes of James Doohan, the actor who portrayed the original Star Trek character Montgomery Scotty Scott, have been interred for a dozen years on the International Space Station (ISS). And on Monday, the backstory of how they came to be there was revealed in full.
Doohan died in July 2005 at age 85, though his character would not be born until the 23rd century. Portions of the actors ashes had previously been launched into space officially a couple of other times, according to The Verge.
Citizen astronaut and entrepreneur Richard Garriott, who was one of the first private citizens to fly to space, smuggled Doohans ashes during a 12-day mission in 2008, he told The Times of London in a story published on Christmas Day.
