Strengthening storm batters Florida with heavy rain and winds as it heads up the East Coast

Source: CNN

A strengthening storm is pummeling Florida with heavy rains and powerful winds as it makes its way up the East Coast, threatening floods, dangerous surf, power outages and travel disruptions.

Already, showers and thunderstorms have swept through much of Florida — and it’s only the beginning of this system’s impacts.

“This is only a precursor of what is to come as the storm center is still located over the eastern Gulf of Mexico while gathering strength more rapidly,” the Weather Prediction Center said Saturday.

Over 15 million people are at risk of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds Sunday across parts of Florida, the Carolinas and Virginia, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

“Stay home unless it is absolutely necessary to go out,” the Miami-Dade County Department of Emergency Management warned as heavy rains soaked roads.

Cardinal found guilty of embezzlement in Vatican 'trial of the century'

Source: Washington Post

VATICAN CITY — Inside the high walls of the Holy See, Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu — former head of the office of “miracles” that minted saints — was considered papabile, a possible next pope.

Then his career collided with church prosecutors, who charged the 75-year-old Italian and nine other officials with corruption, setting up the Vatican’s trial of the century.

On Saturday, Becciu — the first cardinal to be tried by the Vatican’s little-known criminal court — was found guilty of three counts of embezzlement and sentenced to five years and six months in a verdict read out in a converted quarter of the museum that houses the Sistine Chapel. He was acquitted of charges of money laundering, abuse of office and influencing a witness.

Becciu’s lawyers said they would appeal the decision. But the ruling put the cardinal closer to one of Vatican City’s handful of jail cells — a result that amounts to both an affirmation of accountability and an embarrassment for an institution that has struggled for decades to root out corruption.

Tell me how the Presidential polls are wrong.....

Not ** THAT ** the polls are wrong, but how.

Polling from respected academic institutions (not just "the media&quot say the race is effectively tied. The Biden campaign leadership team has told me personally that polling shows the race is effectively tied. If you disagree with either, you believe the result -- today -- is something different (I'm also not interested in "polling today is meaningless" arguments. I don't disagree but that's not the claim many are making). So what is the ACTUAL situation today? Is Biden ahead by 5%? by 10%? Will Biden win more States than he did in 2020, and if so, which new ones? Will this be a "blowout"? What's your analysis of where the election stands today, and what's the basis for that analysis?

Bull on tracks at Newark Penn Station disrupts NJ Transit

WNBC New York

A loose bull on the tracks at Newark Penn Station wreaked some havoc for NJ Transit riders late Thursday morning, prompting delays and chaos as crews worked to corral the animal.

The bovine bedlam broke out before 11 a.m. when the bull escaped closer to Newark International Airport, then ran up to the train station.

It wasn't immediately clear how the bull, seen running along one of the tracks, got loose, but video showed it running up and down tracks at the station as stunned onlookers watched with bewilderment.
