Blue_Tires's JournalBill introduced to ban Howard Zinn books from Arkansas public schools
The deadline for new legislation is fast approaching and it can't come too soon. Just in from Sen. Rep. Kim Hendren: Legislation to prohibit any publicly supported schools (you, too, charters) from including in curriculum or course materials any books or other material authored by Howard Zinn.
(Actually, anything Zinn wrote before 1959 is not covered.)
Zinn, who died in 2010, was a Ph.D. historian, social activist and more who wrote the best-selling "A People's History of the United States." A version for young readers came out in 2007.
He inspired a movie, documentaries and song. Dangerous stuff for the Arkansas student in one legislator's view.

Final answer: Spain is a bunch of deviated preverts
Predictions abound of a Westworld-style near future, where sex robots are "normal" and holiday resorts offering sex dolls and x-rated androids operate in every city. The first signs? Barcelona has just become home to Europe's first sex-dolls agency.
Promoting itself as the first of its kind, Lumi Dolls offers four models of extremely realistic, large-breasted silicone dolls on its website: European Kati, blond with big lips and piercing green eyes, Asian Lili, African Leiza and blue-haired Aki, modeled after Japanese anime.
A session with one doll is around 120 per hour and the cost of each doll is $5,500.
They are totally realistic dolls both in their movements and in their "feel," and they will allow you to fulfill all your fantasies without limits, the website promises.
To make the experience more pleasant and erotic, the new business offers to dress and position the doll according to the client's desires, and in a private room where said client can listen to sensual music or watch pornography on a big plasma television.

Judge orders stiff sentences for two in Douglasville (Ga.) hate crime
As the defendants wept, a Douglas County judge on Monday sentenced two people to lengthy prison terms for their part in disrupting an African-American birthday party with Confederate flags, racial slurs and armed threats in 2015. Superior Court Judge William McClain castigated the two, Kayla Rae Norton, 25, and Jose Ismael Torres, 26, for perpetrating what he called a hate crime.
He sentenced Torres to 20 years, with 13 to serve in prison. Norton was given 15 years, with six to serve. Upon their release, McClain ordered them to be permanently banished from Douglas County.
Their actions were motivated by racial hatred, said McClain.
Douglas Assistant District Attorney David Emadi detailed how the group had gone on a drunken rampage through Douglas and Paulding counties on July 24 and July 25, 2015, in pickup trucks laden with Confederate battle flags. Emadi said the group threatened black motorists, yelled at them and walked up to one of their cars with a gun. They also threatened African-American shoppers at a Paulding County Wal-Mart and at a convenience store.
Many good people in Paulding County saw you for what you are, McClain said before he handed down the sentences. Everywhere you went, 911 call centers were flooded with calls.

The local yokel cops were also called out by the judge for not arresting them that same day...

THE most under-reported story of 2017...
BND apparently spied on foreign journalists
For almost three years, the NSA's investigation committee met in the Bundestag , last week, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), the last witness. In the summer the final report will be ready. In all these years, the mass surveillance of the US service and later the uncontrolled spy action by the Federal Intelligence Service ( BND ) were concerned . A question was only a marginal question for the parliamentarians: did the German ministry spell journalists?
Documents that the SPIEGEL could now see provide a clear answer: Since 1999 the BND has monitored at least 50 telephone and fax numbers or e-mail addresses of journalists or editors around the world with their own so-called selectors.
Among the spy targets were, for example, more than a dozen connections of the British BBC in Afghanistan and the headquarters in London. In addition, editors of the international program BBC World Service were monitored. A connection of the "New York Times" in Afghanistan was on the list as well as connections of mobile and satellite telephones of the news agency Reuters in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

Greenwald and Snowden were unavailable for comment, naturally... Remember the good old days when Germany was supposedly 'above' all this, and Berlin was considered a safe haven by all the privacy bros and gals flocking to live there?
Okay, which DUer's truck is this?
https://twitter.com/ArmyStrang/status/834846422356938753Umm...Yeah... Now we're actually trying to deport Puerto Ricans?
EDIT: I SEE THIS STORY IS FROM 2010... NOT SURE WHY THE DATE ISN'T AT THE TOP OR IN THE URL... MY APOLOGIESA Chicago man who spent the weekend in jail and faced deportation on suspicion he is in the country illegally said what happened to him illustrates the need for America to change the way it deals with immigration. Eduardo Caraballo said his self-described nightmare began last week when he was arrested in connection with a stolen car case. He maintains his innocence and says the car case is still being investigated, but says the real problems began when his mother posted his bail Friday.
Instead of being released, he was told by authorities that Immigration and Customs Enforcement was detaining him because he was an illegal immigrant.
Caraballo said he repeatedly told officers that he was born in Puerto Rico and therefore an American citizen. His mother also presented his birth certificate, but despite that and his state-issued ID, officials told him he was facing deportation.
"I'm pretty sure they know that Puerto Ricans are citizens, but just because of the way I look -- I have Mexican features -- they pretty much assumed that my papers were fake," he said. "They were making me feel like I can't voice my opinion or I can't even speak for myself to let them know that I am a citizen."
He says officers asked him specific questions about the Caribbean island that he could not answer, mostly because he moved to the mainland when he was 8 months old and has only been back to Puerto Rico once since birth.
