State employees wasted hours on Instagram as unemployment backlog grew:
PORTLAND, Ore. As tens of thousands of people in Oregon waited for unemployment benefits, state workers paid to process their claims wasted hours scrolling through Instagram and Facebook at a temporary call center in Wilsonville.
A lot of us were playing on our phones. I was playing on my phone throughout the whole day, said Desi Thonis, 32, an Oregon Employment Department worker. It was so stupid because we could have been working.
Thonis said for roughly two weeks, managers limited workers to only a small handful of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) applications after the program launched in Oregon on April 28.
We all worked on them so fast that there werent any left, said Thonis. After 9:30 a.m. there was nothing left for us to work on.
The Oregon Employment Department director David Gerstenfeld said, if true, he would be troubled to hear that state employees were on social media for hours.

Walmarts in Multnomah County not requiring masks and spreading the virus in our neighborhoods
The manager at Walmart # 3178 told me that their corporate management told them they didn't need to comply with our state guidelines. We are in a hot spot here and this is beyond irresponsible.

Psychopathic traits linked to non-compliance with social distancing guidelines amid the coronavirus
New research provides some initial evidence that certain antagonistic personality traits are associated with ignoring preventative measures meant to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
The study has been peer reviewed and accepted for publication in the journal Social Psychology and Personality Science. It is currently available on the PsyArXiv preprint website.
On March 31, 2020, Dr. Deborah Birx, the coordinator of the U.S. governments Coronavirus Task Force, said, Theres no magic bullet. Theres no magic vaccine or therapy. Its just behaviors. Each of our behaviors, translating into something that changes the course of this viral pandemic over the next 30 days. My experience as a psychological scientist as well as a practicing psychologist has convinced me that the importance of psychology and behavior in the prevention and management of a wide range of health problems is enormous, said study author Pavel S. Blagov, an associate professor and director of the Personality Laboratory at Whitman College.
This includes personality, or the study of important ways in which people differ. It was clear from reports in the media very early in the COVID-19 pandemic that some people were rejecting advice to socially distance and engage in increased hygiene. There can be many reasons for this, and I thought that personality may play at least a small role in it.
