Important: Your post misses the point, which is CORRUPTION of democracy.

This will be my last kick to this Third Way talking point thread, but your post needs to be corrected.

We are not talking about "big tents." We are talking about monied corruption of our democracy.

The Third Way does not represent a different part of America. The Third Way represents Wall Street. That is the problem we face: the corruption of representative government of The People by corporate money flooding Washington. It is corporations buying policy.

The DLC, the Third Way...whatever slimy attempt at rebranding they are using these days....was *never* a grass roots movement. It was a planned and deliberate infiltration of the Democratic Party by Wall Street using corporate money, with the explicit goal of transferring the loyalty of the party from voters to Wall Street donors.

We aren't battling other Americans in a healthy democratic process here. The Third Way (and its propaganda machine) is a symptom of the CORRUPTION of our government....its subversion away from a representative system, representation of the interests of the people....into oligarchy, the PURCHASE of supposedly democratic, representative government by a monied elite.

When the DLC connections to the Koch Bros. became well known, they just rebranded the infiltration

Excellent post you just made. Just look at all those attempts at rebranding.

We all know about the ugly rebranding of the DLC. These manipulators were never a grass roots movement. They have always been a corporate-backed infiltration into the Democratic Party, no matter which name they try to use. Same dirty tricks, same manipulation, same dishonesty, same propaganda machines.

Rebranding is what disreputable corporations do.

Oh, this talking point again: "YOU CALLED ME A DOG!!!!111!11!"

The corporate mouthpieces here are still trying to make "Third Way" into an epithet rather than the useful descriptor of policy positions it actually is. That is what authoritarians do: try to discredit language so as to take away the words we need to describe what is being done to us.

(The attempt to discredit the useful terms: "authoritarian" and "Third Way"

...Authoritarians and the Third Way don't like being called what they are, and since they can't yet prohibit words and restrict others to an approved Newspeak Dictionary, they settle for flailing at and attempting to discredit the individual words they dislike.

This tactic...is most amusing in one-to-one settings. When someone uses an accurate word to describe what you are doing or advocating, just put the word in quotation marks, add some exclamation points, and try to neutralize it by pretending it's an epithet instead of an accurate descriptor. We have all seen it here 1,000 times. A person's politics are described as Third Way, and he or she rears up in indignation, expressing shock at the "namecalling."

Well, no. "Third Way" means something. It is not an epithet, but rather descriptive shorthand for a clear and specific set of political values and policies.
You can see what "Third Way" means by going to the Third Way website, where the goals and policies - liberal on the social issues unimportant to the One Percent but corporate and authoritarian on virtually everything else - are clearly delineated.

Those who embrace and defend Third Way policies don't want to admit it, so they try to make the term an epithet...something to be dismissed as namecalling or even banned by a jury so that it can't be accurately applied to them on the forums. And now we are hearing the same sort of defensive attempts to discredit the word when authoritarianism is called "authoritarianism."

Of course "authoritarian" means something. Brazen defense of a government's spying on its own citizens is indisputably authoritarian.

I always picture an indignant poodle rearing up in outrage and exclaiming, "What?! You called me a DOG?!"

Orwell was right. Defending against authoritarianism *requires* defending language, because authoritarians will try to twist, discredit, or take away the words that are necessary for us to describe what is being done to us.

Reject, do not engage, Third Way talking points.

Going to threads about important issues like the TPP and the looming renewal of the Patriot Act now, rather than kicking these stale Third Way talking points.

Rotating villains.

If it weren't this 13, it would have been another 13.

We have seen this con game now for years. The system is deeply and pervasively corrupt. Corporate money pouring into Washington to buy soulless, morally bankrupt predators to pretend to be our "representatives."

They and those who shill for them have sacrificed all claim to human decency or conscience. They are the "hollow men" of our generation. It takes a special kind of moral vacancy to participate in this sellout of democracy and human lives and futures, for the filthy paychecks they receive. There is no honor, none, in these con artists or their shills.

Enough is enough.

The Democratic Party's Deceitful Game

Democrats perpetrate the same scam over and over on their own supporters, and this illustrates perfectly how it’s played:
The primary tactic in this game is Villain Rotation. They always have a handful of Democratic Senators announce that they will be the ones to deviate this time from the ostensible party position and impede success, but the designated Villain constantly shifts, so the Party itself can claim it supports these measures while an always-changing handful of their members invariably prevent it. One minute, it’s Jay Rockefeller as the Prime Villain leading the way in protecting Bush surveillance programs and demanding telecom immunity; the next minute, it’s Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer joining hands and “breaking with their party” to ensure Michael Mukasey’s confirmation as Attorney General; then it’s Big Bad Joe Lieberman single-handedly blocking Medicare expansion; then it’s Blanche Lincoln and Jim Webb joining with Lindsey Graham to support the de-funding of civilian trials for Terrorists; and now that they can’t blame Lieberman or Ben Nelson any longer on health care (since they don’t need 60 votes), Jay Rockefeller voluntarily returns to the Villain Role, stepping up to put an end to the pretend-movement among Senate Democrats to enact the public option via reconciliation.

What a familiar, predictable, manipulative, and vicious con game by corporate Democrats.

The initial vote was for show. For PR. What Americans heard was that Democrats stood up against this monstrosity.

Then they reverse course, conveniently. AFTER the accolades.

Just like Obama's lying, highly publicized speech pretending that he would rein in military involvement....

...followed immediately by two new wars in Syria and Iraq, funding carpet-bombing of captive populations in Gaza, and a trillion-dollar escalation in nuclear weapons.

Our corrupt Third Way Democrats are corporate liars, puppets for the One Percent as surely as are corporate Republicans. In this oligarchy, this fake democracy, we are ruled by lying propagandists and corporate criminals, who brazenly and deliberately advertise one agenda and pursue another.

Enough corporate corruption. Enough.

Note our corrupt corporate Dems took the time to *pretend* they opposed it first.

To get the headlines saying that Democrats were standing up against this sack of predatory shit.

*Then* they reversed course, after the public accolades.

Just like Obama's lying, highly publicized speech pretending that he would rein in military involvement...followed immediately by two new wars in Syria and Iraq, funding carpet-bombing of captive populations in Gaza, and a trillion-dollar escalation in nuclear weapons.

We are ruled by manipulative propagandists and craven corporate criminals who do not hesitate to lie to our faces, pretending to stand for one agenda while pursuing the opposite.

They constantly manipulate what Americans will see and remember, while selling us out to predators.

What a cesspool of deliberate corruption our government has become.

The "Justice" Department asks them not to commit crimes...but just for two years.

This is the moral and ethical sewer of corporate government.

From the "Justice" Department that also gave us these:

The "Justice" Department of this corporate Trojan horse administration. Lest we forget:

So Eric Holder is finally resigning as Attorney General....

First, he refused to prosecute George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld for breaking the treaty against torture and the statutes that also prohibit it.

Second, he let Wall Street CEOs off the hook for messing around with mortgage derivatives, misleading investors and clients, and crashing our economy.

Third, he prosecuted more whistleblowers than any other Attorney General, and he used the hideous 1917 Sedition Act to go after them. He even pursued James Risen, the terrific New York Times reporter, threatening him with jail.

Reminders of what this corporate administration has fought for:

Attributing this corporate administration's assaults on ordinary Americans to political helplessness and obstructionism is a transparent Third Way lie.

The record shows aggressive, proactive pursuit of a corporate agenda,

This belongs on the Greatest Page. Actually, it should be pinned to the top of the board

to remind us of the incessant, lying propaganda that has become standard MO of our corrupt government.

Corporations by definition have no interest in representing anyone but themselves. Ditto for corporate governments. They exist to grow their own power and profit. They manipulate and advertise to do that. They build propaganda machines, with utter contempt for the people they claim to represent.

That's why we don't get honest political messaging from corporate politicians.

"Incremental change" is a Third Way lie.

See this thread by WillyT:

JFK: What it means to be Liberal

In JFK's own words:

"Our responsibility is not discharged by announcement of virtuous ends. Our responsibility is to achieve these objectives with social invention, with political skill, and executive vigor."

Empty Third Way claims to care about the 99 percent, while bleating lies about "incrementalism" and fellating the One Percent...

That con game does not fly anymore.

The endless Third Way lecturing to be patient and trust "incremental change" is a rhetorical con game. It is a bid to believe a flat-out lie: that corporate politicians have the same goals we do but are merely moving toward them more slowly and pragmatically.

It is a lie. Third Way politicians and their propaganda mouthpieces do not have the same goals as traditional liberals. They work for Wall Street and corporations, and their purpose is to use slick advertising and manipulation to sell you a product that will increase their own power and profit.

To claim that progress is being made but is merely incremental is overwhelmingly untrue in the most important areas of policy. We are being thrown bones on social issues but inequality has been escalated viciously through policy, the power of corporations is being relentlessly increased, our fundamental civil liberties are being dismantled, journalism is under assault, peaceful protesters are being surveilled and brutally suppressed, whistleblowers are being persecuted, our president has claimed the right to imprison indefinitely and even kill without due process, militarization of our police forces has been expanded, our public education system is being corporatized and even dismantled, corporate power over the internet has still not been denied, and our environment is being opened to drilling and fracking. In addition to all this, this government is engaging in mass surveillance against its own citizens and assaulting us with propaganda and disinformation.

Corporatists have been installed in virtually every area of government by our Democratic president.

The most significant policy proposal on the horizon is the most predatory free trade agreement in history, which will force Americans to compete with workers in Third World countries. It will kill jobs, reduce wages for over 90 percent of American workers, restrict freedom on the internet, make obtaining life-saving medications more difficult and more expensive, and allow multinational corporations to sue for profits and overrule national decisions on everything from wages to regulations for environment and safety. It is an assault on all of us, and it is unconscionable coming from a Democratic president. However, it is wholly consistent with this administration's long record of working on behalf of corporate interests.

Nothing is fixed unless we are honest about what is happening. All the propaganda notwithstanding, more and more courageous liberals are standing up to do just that. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Robert Reich....the launch of FirstLook....Bill Moyers' excellent work....These are all positive signs.

People who care deeply about this country are telling the truth about what we really are facing...the corporate hijacking of our party and our government....because the rose-colored glasses are malignant. The rose-colored glasses are a corporate lie, and they prevent real change.
