A mysterious bag containing 53 human hands appears on a Russian island near Chinas border

A mysterious bag with 27 pairs of severed, frozen human hands washed up on a snow-covered island near the border between China and Russia, according to local reports.

Investigators arrived at the Beshenaya channel on the Amur River in Khabarovsk, in southeastern Russia, after one of the human hands was spotted. A bag of 53 other hands was later discovered.

Fingerprints have been identified on one of the hands, while the others are being tested. The spot where the hands were discovered is a popular fishing hole roughly 19 miles from the border with China.

Canada unveils new vertical $10 bill with first Canadian woman featured

Canada is celebrating International Women’s Day by unveiling a new $10 bill, the first to feature a Canadian woman – Viola Desmond.

The unveiling took place today at the Halifax Central Library. Desmond’s sister, Wanda Robson was in attendance, as well as Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Bank of Canada Governor, Stephen Poloz.

Desmond lived in Nova Scotia from 1914-1965. She’s known for her success as a businesswoman, and also standing up for civil rights.

In 1946 she refused to leave a whites-only area of a movie theatre and was jailed and fined as a result. Her court case was the first known legal challenge against racial segregation brought forth by a black woman in Canada.

Canadian Doctors Say They're Paid Too Much, and Are Protesting to Lower Their Own Salaries.

Hundreds of Canadian doctors say they're being paid too much, and they've signed a petition asking the government to lower their salaries.

This sounds like the most Canadian thing ever, eh? It's tempting to dismiss it as just a quirky story.

But once we get past the sheer and literal foreignness of the whole thing, it's actually an incredible act of leadership.

Here's the context. Canada, unlike the United States, has a government-run health care system, and the doctors themselves say they're already pretty well paid.
