Street Art for International Anti-Street Harassment Week

Beloved Philadelphia-based feminist activist group, Pussy Division, has created a brilliant new series of street art installations around Philly for International Anti-Street Harassment Week!

Pussy Division elaborated on their installations with me this afternoon via email:

International Anti-Street Harassment Week (2nd to 8th of April) is a growing and global effort which aims to help create awareness around the causes and effects of street harassment, which is part of the larger concept of rape culture.

Pussy Division wanted to create a project which would be effective yet powerful, that is how we came up with the idea of mimicking ‘caution’ tape with different messages like “don’t comment on my body”.

We want people to realize that street harassment isn’t just inconvenient, but frightening and degrading. Our hope is that when people see the tape, they’ll relate the idea of caution with safety for those who are targeted by street harassment but also use it as a warning to not harass people in the street.

GOP health proposal would lead to higher premiums for sick people

New discussions around the White House's ObamaCare repeal effort could lead to more expensive health insurance for people with pre-existing conditions.

While Republicans have indicated they would keep ObamaCare's provision that requires insurers to cover people with pre-existing conditions, a new proposal from the White House could lead to sicker people paying more for coverage.

Vice President Mike Pence presented an offer to the conservative House Freedom Caucus on Monday that would allow states to apply for waivers to repeal two ObamaCare regulations: essential health benefits, which mandate which services insurers must cover; and "community rating," which requires insurers to charge sick people the same rate as healthy people if they're the same age.

Under this proposal, expected to be released as early as Tuesday night, people with pre-existing conditions could still get healthcare — but insurers would be able to charge them much more than they're currently paying under ObamaCare.

The president's son thinks PizzaGate conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich should win the Pulitzer

On Tuesday, the son of the president of the United States suggested that an alt-right blogger who promotes conspiracies like "white genocide" and PizzaGate should "win the Pulitzer."

Donald Trump Jr. tweeted his praise of the media personality Mike Cernovich after crediting Cernovich with "breaking" the story that former President Barack Obama's national security adviser, Susan Rice, asked intelligence agencies to "unmask" the names of Trump transition officials caught up in foreign surveillance. Cernovich further alleged Rice then sent the unmasked names to a handful of top intelligence officials.

Koch Brothers Operatives Fill Top White House Positions, Ethics Forms Reveal

IF THE BILLIONAIRE Koch brothers turn to the White House for favors, they will see many familiar faces.

Newly disclosed ethics forms reveal that a significant number of senior Trump staffers were previously employed by the sprawling network of hard-right and libertarian advocacy groups financed and controlled by Charles and David Koch, the conservative duo hyper-focused on entrenching Republican power, eliminating taxes, and slashing environmental and labor regulations.

Some of the relationships were well-known. Marc Short, for instance, now Trump’s chief liaison to Congress, previously led Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, the dark money nonprofit used by the Koch brothers and their donor cohort to dispense money to allied groups. Freedom Partners, which maintains an affiliate Super PAC, was at the center of the Kochs’ $750 million election effort during the campaign last year.

But the ethics forms, made available to the public on Friday evening, reveal a number of previously undisclosed financial ties between the Koch network and Trump’s inner circle of political aides.

Official photographs suggest Donald Trump is avoiding the White House photographer

The former TV reality star has apparently gone camera shy, now that he’s president of the United States.

Former president Barack Obama’s photographer Pete Souza has been trolling US president Donald Trump on Instagram with intimate, nostalgic shots of Obama on the job. But even if Souza’s successor, White House photographer Shealah Craighead, wanted to hit back, there wouldn’t be much to offer. She and her team don’t seem to be getting much access to their boss, and certainly not more than press pool photographers.

Trump hired Craighead, a former staff photographer for president George W. Bush, as chief White House photographer in January. Several other photographers and videographers work under her at the White House, including Jonathan Gallegos, Ben Tuck, Ben Applebaum, and Paul Williams. While Souza’s work charmed the public with intimate and humane moments of president Obama and his family, Craighead’s photographs are confined only to Trump’s public face.

So far, the White House official Flickr album has remained empty. Its Instagram account totals 33 photos, consisting mostly of bland, official photo ops taken in the Oval Office where Trump is in the company of visitors, or where he is speaking to an audience behind a podium. Most White House photos of the president are housed in an album called “The First 50 days” posted on the POTUS Facebook account, which amounts to 50 images.
