Poll: Half of voters relying on presidential debates to help decide their vote
Half of the country's likely voters say they will rely on high-profile debates between presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to help make their decision, according to a new poll.
The results of the Reuters/Ipsos poll were released Monday, hours before Trump and Clinton are slated to square off in the first of three presidential debates.
Some 50 percent of likely voters surveyed said they think the debates will help inform their decision. Of those, 10 percent say they aren't leaning toward either candidate.
Another 39 percent in the poll said the debates will not help inform their vote, while 11 percent are not sure how the debates would affect their decision.

Trump picks top skeptic to lead EPA transition
Donald Trump has selected one of the best-known climate skeptics to lead his U.S. EPA transition team, according to two sources close to the campaign.
Myron Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute, is spearheading Trump's transition plans for EPA, the sources said.
The Trump team has also lined up leaders for its Energy Department and Interior Department teams. Republican energy lobbyist Mike McKenna is heading the DOE team; former Interior Department solicitor David Bernhardt is leading the effort for that agency, according to sources close to the campaign.
Ebell is a well-known and polarizing figure in the energy and environment realm. His participation in the EPA transition signals that the Trump team is looking to drastically reshape the climate policies the agency has pursued under the Obama administration. Ebell's role is likely to infuriate environmentalists and Democrats but buoy critics of Obama's climate rules.

Earlier, in a simpler, less-wired era, Berkeley Breathed, creator of “Bloom County,” had skewered Trump dozens of times in his Pulitzer-winning strip that featured sweet Opus, whacked-out Bill the Cat and an entire meadow of interacting human and animal denizens of the title lands. The Donald was painted as cartoon buffoon. Then last year, Breathed reawakened “Bloom County” after a quarter-century slumber, calling its return — in the immediate wake of Trump’s escalator entry into the presidential campaign — a “sparkling symptom of a renewed national ridiculousness.” And for much of the past year, the strip poked fun at the Republican candidate.
Now, Breathed isn’t laughing so heartily at Trump.
Editorial artists and journalists alike “look like kickboxers swinging underwater,” Breathed tells The Washington Post’s Comic Riffs of media attempts to land a critical harpoon into Candidate Trump’s hide. Which is why Breathed himself has decided to stand down.
“I have declared my strip Trump-free at this point,” Breathed tells Comic Riffs. “He may get only a glancing mention as subtext … even if he and his family get control of the free world.”

Stanley 'Buckwheat' Dural Jr., accordionist and leader of Buckwheat Zydeco, dies at 68
Accordionist, bandleader and New Orleans music icon Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural Jr. of Buckwheat Zydeco has died. He was 68.
His death was confirmed by the band’s manager and frequent collaborator, Ted Fox, who wrote on the Buckwheat Zydeco’s Facebook page that Dural had died early Saturday morning. In August, Fox also announced via the band’s website that Dural had been diagnosed with lung cancer, and daughter Tomorrow Dural had launched a campaign on the fundraising site GoFundMe in an attempt to cover medical expenses.
“Buck made everything and everyone he touched better and happier,” Fox wrote. “RIP my dear friend, my brother.”
