Question (re: Dobbs)

Maybe it's been explained somewhere, but how did a case specifically about a 15-Week Abortion Ban lead to SCOTUS completely demolishing Roe & Casey? I know they can basically do what they want because it's all about power to them, but I feel like I missed a step between 15 weeks and saying YOLO States can do whatever they want regarding Abortion? If it's that easy to go from one specific issue and then demolish precedent like that, virtually nothing is safe anymore. Also, if SCOTUS is going to pretty much send everything back for the states to decide, then, I guess their work is done and they can quit, right?

I keep having this argument with a lot of my progressive/left-wing friends

They won't listen and/or understand.

Do people like Bowers

realize that once they give Trump power again, the next time he tries to overthrow the government and seize total power, he’ll make sure that they can’t resist him and that he and others are likely going to wind up in jail or dead (or both)?

When will they learn?

And why can’t they just belong to the Joe Manchin/Krysten Sinema wing of the party? Sure, they might not be completely enthusiastic about Democrats but at least they’ll stand a lesser chance of being hated and could possibly be eliminated under Republicans. I just don’t….get them.

A reluctant break

at best. He didn't just outright shoot the idea of overturning the election down right away like anybody else with even a minimum of knowledge of the Constitution would. He obviously researched the idea until Dan F**king Quayle told him to not even consider it.

He also hasn't ruled out supporting Trump again despite what happened.

I will have to say

I was starting to panic for the second election in the row but once they called Arizona(!) for Biden, I was finally able to relax and go to bed. It obviously wasn't over yet nor called for Biden yet but winning Arizona gave Biden another (quite unexpected) path to 270 EV. He ended up getting all of the states he needed anyway but Arizona and Georgia were the icing on the cake.

You know

I can appreciate that the framers probably thought it best to not make it TOO EASY for things like impeachment, expulsion, etc., so that they can't just be used casually and for naked political retribution, but part of me also thinks that they probably unintentionally made it TOO HARD to do it as well, especially when the perps are partially running the show. I don't know what the solution is, but mechanisms to hold our leaders accountable aren't very useful if they're nearly impossible for the good guys to use to confront dangers to our democracy from bad leaders.

That's what I want to scream

everytime I hear on the news or read political articles talking about how DOOMED Democrats are because of those issues over which Biden has no control and that electing Republicans would only make all those things (and others) worse.

Crucial context

which I don't feel like a lot of people appreciate, just in the same way that the Democrats held Congress for 2 years under GWB, Obama had to deal with a divided Congress for 4 years and then a Republican Congress for the last 2. The way things seem to be bending, it looks like we may be looking at a Republican Congress again under Biden for at least the next 2 years. Whereas, Republicans had the WH and Congress for an almost unfettered 6 year period where they got to pass bills, tax cuts, and put Judges on the courts, including Alito and Roberts, starting the tilt of the court to the far right. A lot of people just think that Democrats suck because they can't control Republican obstructionism and then attack Democrats and refuse to vote because they think that their votes don't matter, thus practically giving more election cycles over to Republicans and then getting upset AGAIN that things suck more and more. I try to explain this to people on the left and they act like I'm just making excuses or being a party loyalist.
