Judge blocks deportation of eight asylum seekers claiming to flee violence

This is good news https://www.politico.com/story/2018/08/09/asylum-seekers-federal-judge-block-deportation-770392

A federal judge on Thursday blocked the deportation of eight asylum seekers who claimed to have experienced domestic violence or gang threats in their home countries.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan said in court Thursday that it was unacceptable that the Trump administration had placed plaintiffs in the case — a mother and daughter — on a flight to Central America, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents the asylum seekers.

Sullivan, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, ordered the plane apparently carrying the family be re-routed back to the United States, the ACLU said in a related statement.

The D.C.-based judge also suggested Attorney General Jeff Sessions could be held in contempt over the deportation, according to the ACLU.

For now, Army suspends discharges of immigrant recruits

Trump has been discharging military recruits who join the military under a program where they would earn credit towards being an US citizen. There has been no reason given for these terminations other than trump is a racist. There was litigation and trump is backing off of these discharges. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/for-now-army-suspends-discharges-of-immigrant-recruits/ar-BBLGxzk?li=BBnb7Kz

The U.S. Army has stopped discharging immigrant recruits who enlisted seeking a path to citizenship — at least temporarily.

A memo shared with The Associated Press on Wednesday and dated July 20 spells out orders to high-ranking Army officials to stop processing discharges of men and women who enlisted in the special immigrant program, effective immediately.

It was not clear how many recruits were impacted by the action, and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the memo.

"Effective immediately, you will suspend processing of all involuntary separation actions," read the memo signed by Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Marshall Williams.

The disclosure comes one month after the AP reported that dozens of immigrant enlistees were being discharged or had their contracts cancelled. Some said they were given no reason for their discharge. Others said the Army informed them they'd been labeled as security risks because they have relatives abroad or because the Defense Department had not completed background checks on them.

Juanita Jean is happy that Culbertson may be having Chris Collins issues

The Chris Collins mess will be fun to watch and may affect a Texas race. http://juanitajean.com/hot-damn-with-a-cherry-on-top/

You’ve heard already that Republican Congressman Chris Collins was arrested for insider trading this morning.

Well, guess who is tighter than skin on a sausage with Collins?

Our boy Culbertson.

Rep. John Culberson (R-TX): The Texas Republican claimed he heard about Innate from media reports, but as the Houston Chronicle noted, it’s not clear which. At the time of his purchase, Innate was described as “a tiny pharmaceutical company from Australia that has no approved drugs and no backing from flashy venture capital firms.” The Chronicle pointed out that Culberson’s past investment history does not square with his purchase of biotech stocks and his opponent, a research physician, has wondered what led Culberson to invest, “since at the time he bought it in January there had been no published research articles or significant clinical trial updates on the drug, known as MIS416.”

And, just to add the cherry on top, another Texas Republican Congressman is being looked at.
The Texas CD 7 is flippable and Lizzie Fletcher is a great candidate

Bernie and his army are losing 2018

Our Revolution did not have a good night https://www.politico.com/story/2018/08/08/bernie-sanders-endorsements-2018-elections-767403

Bernie Sanders is sputtering.

Two years after his defeat the 2016 presidential primary, the Vermont senator has amassed a growing string of losses in races in which he has intervened. Beginning last year, Sanders-backed candidates faltered in an Omaha mayoral race and a nationally watched House race in Montana.

Then came Rep. Tom Perriello’s loss in Virginia’s gubernatorial primary, and in June, the drubbing in Iowa of Pete D’Alessandro, a top adviser to Sanders during his 2016 Iowa caucus campaign. Cathy Glasson, endorsed by Sanders’ successor group, Our Revolution, fell short in Iowa’s gubernatorial primary, as did Peter Jacob and Jim Keady in two New Jersey House races. Dennis Kucinich lost in Ohio.

Tuesday night brought Sanders and his army their latest blow, with a pair of high-profile losses in Michigan and Kansas.
