Texas Governor Abbott returns to the murder scene

President and First Lady Biden visited the site of the horrific murders of children and others in Uvalde, Texas today. While they were there, Governor Abbott, the enabler of the murderer, had the gall to show up. How dare he? How dare Abbott show his face on this hallowed ground. I find it hard to imagine how long it took to scrub the blood off his hands.

Abbott, Texas Republicans, and the entire Republican Party are drowning in the blood of countless children and adults who have been murdered. The reason they died was because Republicans are a wholly owned subsidiary of the NRA, weapons manufacturers, and billionaires who have their own agenda for turning America into a fascist state run by themselves.

But at this moment, it all comes into focus when you see Abbott, showing up with his "thoughts and prayers," in Uvalde, Texas. There just aren't words to cover this outrage. A man who allowed a weapon of war to be put into the hands of an unhinged teenager, knew beyond any doubt what the probable outcome would be, and didn't give a shit. Abbott, and the entire Republican establishment, are the face of evil.

It's past time for all of us to get into the fight for the soul of America.

Yes, these massacres are caused by insanity

The insanity of the Republican Party.

They fear their billionaire donors who profit from everything that kills human beings and our planet.

They fear losing their power and absolutely nothing else matters to them.

They fear imbeciles whose votes they need to keep that power.

They fear people will see through their hypocritical "thoughts and prayers" for human beings who were murdered.

They fear that people will finally "get" that they don't care about the heart-breaking, monstrous murder of children.

Their is nothing sane about what they have done, what they do, and what they will continue to do.

Where will the next massacre take place? Chicago? Seattle? Salt Lake City? Denver? St. Louis? Key West? Who knows?

All we know is that it will happen again. And again. And again. And it will keep happening unless we stop it.

How many more must die? How do we stop it? Somehow, someway, sane leaders, and the sane among us, must get through to all voters, -- rural, urban, black, white, brown, Christian, Mormon, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Shinto, agnostic, atheist, rich, poor, and everyone else, -- that the Republican Party is a death cult. They will destroy everyone and everything that stands in the way of their own wealth, power and their desire for the total "ownership" of humanity.

In reality there aren't that many of them. They may be "big" in terms of political power, but they're small in numbers. (One of George Carlin's most famous lines is: "It's a 'big' club. And you ain't in it." That's a gem of truth you can take to the bank.)

The Republican Party is a threat and a danger to America, and to the world. Their insanity is right up front and out there for everyone to see. Many of them may not actually believe in the craziness being sold by their cult. But it's too late for them to escape and they've got to keep mouthing stupid shit. They're in a prison of their own making.

Notice that the word "love" doesn't appear among any of the terms used to describe Republicans. They are driven by fear, greed, and some would add, evil. But we must recognize that they are more than just domestic enemies. They are enemies of humanity. And they must be stopped from ever again holding power. There is only one predictable ending that would result from their insanity.

Republicans unleashed the insane. The insane are murdering everyone they can.

Republicans don't just have blood on their hands. They are covered with it. And America is drowning in it.

Black people, brown people, Jewish people, children, seniors, and anyone in the wrong place at the wrong time. It doesn't matter who you are. The Republicans and their gun worshippers have turned America into a killing ground. And it ain't gonna' stop.

How do we put an end to it? The answer is easy. Ban private ownership of guns. How do we do it? We can't. Not until we rid ourselves of the Republican Party.

Do Dem leaders know there's a political war going on?

The Republican Party declared a political war on us decades ago. They trashed all the rules and, OPENLY, did whatever was necessary to own America and impose their fascist ideology on all of us. We saw it and did nothing.

TFG accelerated the process. And now, we're in a crazyland that we couldn't have imagined just a few short years ago.

So here are my questions:

O What are our leaders doing to defend us, and attack our domestic enemies?

O Are we just going to yell "GOTV" and hope for the best?

O Are we going to let the Republican propaganda machine triumph while we just knock on doors asking people to vote?

O Will any Democratic leader start acting like we're in an all out political war for our country?

O And if that "leader" comes along, exactly how is he/she going to engage in this "war for democracy" at this late stage?

O Do most people realize that our constitution, our freedoms, our country, our way of life are about to disappear forever?

Home schooling sucks

Home schooling many be okay in teaching the rules/facts of math, grammar, etc.

But, subjects such as those aside, home schooling can't teach you to deal with differing points of view.

It can't teach you to interact with other human beings.

It can't teach you to negotiate with others.

It can't teach you tolerance.

And in subjects such as history, social studies, some scientific theories, and more, it doesn't teach you to Think/Reason/Analyze. (Unless, of course, the person tutoring you is among the greatest minds in the history of human thought.)

So, IMO, home schooling, (in most cases), is for indoctrination, not education. And I believe it sucks unless there's no alternative.

Think I'm wrong? Tell me why.

Who knew there were so many ignorant or insane voters

The vast majority of Republican voters can't seem to grasp that, in casting a vote for a Republican, they are voting to raise their own "misery index," and lower their own financial well being.

About 74 million of them voted for Trump in 2020. Yet, if they didn't see back then how badly the Republicans were screwing America, how have they not seen it since?

Yeah, I've heard the explanations: "Cult," "Own the libs," "God is on our side," etc. But really, how incredibly dense do you have to be before you realize that you're fucking your own family, yourself, and all those who believe as you do?

I know that many (most?) of them can't spell "fascism." But imagine the betrayal they'll feel when they find that they too are "owned" and are nothing more than the property of the wealthy and powerful.

Please drop the "duh" in Florida

We here in Florida are trapped in a state that Republicans have fucked beyond repair.

The “duh” came about in 2000, when the Supreme Court stopped the vote of Florida’s highest court and appointed George Bush to the presidency. (A vote that, it turned out, Al Gore had won.)

Today, Ron DeSantis is trying to bludgeon Mickey Mouse into submitting to his “Don’t say Gay” law, has banned virtually all math textbooks in schools, (except those from a single publisher), and has gerrymandered the state into an white, “Christian,” dominated, private Republican domain.

My guess is that in actual voters, Florida is split nearly 50/50. But when you’re making the rules, that split doesn’t count.
Gov. DeSantis (and Gov. Abbott of Texas) have shown us the future of America if Republicans win/steal the congress and the presidency over the next two years. (They already own the Supreme Court.)

So, please lay off the “Floriduh.” The future of the country isn’t in our hands because our votes are suppressed, or uncounted. Either vote for Dems in your own state, hope we end up holding onto, at least, a part of our government, or tell us how we can all stop a fascist takeover of our entire country.

And if the fascists end up owning America, tack that "duh" onto all who didn't act when they still could.

Why are Republicans such dicks?

I've been asking this same question here on DU for many years. And the answers are becoming ever clearer.

The majority of us are average, and somewhat "normal" human beings. Today's Republicans represent and attract a minority of people who do not hold most of the same values/morals that the rest of us do. They don't view the world, or reality, the same way that most of us do. Want some examples? Okay. Here are the beliefs of many (most?) of them:

O They are against abortion for any reason, including rape, incest, or the life or age of the mother.

O They are for the death penalty.

O They want no restrictions on gun ownership.

O They are against any LGBTQ lifestyle, against gay marriage, and would make "alternate" lifestyles" a crime.

O They don't want people reading the "wrong" books. Book burning is fine with them.

O They want their children to believe the "correct" version of American history.

O They want America to be a "Christian" nation by their definition of "Christian."

O They believe that violence is necessary to obtain their goals.

O They have no problem with labeling all "others" as "Thems."

O They believe that any white "Christian" who deviates from their dogma is a "Them."

O They believe that cruelty towards any and all "Thems" is fine.

O They don't want any "Thems" voting.

O They don't believe in free and fair elections.

O They don't believe in the rule of the majority.

O They don't believe in democracy.

O They don't believe in the America that the rest of us long for.

O They are dangerous and deadly.

O They are fully capable, and ignorant enough, to destroy all life on the only planet we have.

Those are some of the reasons that Republicans are dicks. And please, add more reasons, disagree, or whatever.

Final thoughts

A few final thoughts (excerpts) from the diary of a friend. (Yeah, some people still write diaries.):

I've been doing a lot of reflecting lately and I'm aware that I'm living in the past. I remember during the JFK years, many believed in the talk of “The best and the brightest.” Then they murdered him and, for a moment, sane people lost hope.

But MLK pushed racial justice to the top of the agenda, and LBJ brought about Medicare, Medicaid, the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act, and it was the FDR era all over again. Well, except for that Vietnam thing, which made many of us believe we should have hung the prick. What a dichotomy. LBJ was FDR domestically and Hitler on foreign affairs.

But, for the most part, I thought the world was going to be a better place. I believed in a better future. I believed the horrors of the the dark ages and world wars were behind us. I believed that America was leading the world toward some kind of Utopian existence.

And then they murdered MLK and RFK and so many dreams crashed. People were incapable, or too distracted, to understand the degree to which Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” would poison the well.

Then came Reagan, whose destructiveness of democracy was hidden behind the facade of a "harmless, likable moron." Those who used him did their best to destroy the world that most people considered to be "normal."

Perhaps I've outlived the definition of “normal.” But by anyone’s definition, the current Republican Party is in no way “normal.” Watching those “plantation/slave owners” in the senate taking a crap on our Constitution is beyond any possible definition of what is allowable in a civilized society. Yet, come next November, they’ll probably own the congress.

We may be living through the final years of America. I’m grateful for having spent my life in a somewhat free country. But it seems those freedoms are disintegrating daily.

I really hate to die without seeing American Nazis purged from decent society. I was hoping to leave this world seeing the promise of the future come into being.

If Republicans didn't destroy themselves today, then America is over

Today, the mask came off.

Lindsey Graham, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton and others, would have felt right at home in Germany of 1939, or in any pig sty of your choosing. Their display of racism, anti-feminism, and outright disrespect and contempt for another human being was beyond mind-blowing. It gave credence to the theory that there's no intelligent life on this planet.

If any Democrat ever treated another human being the way Judge Jackson was treated today by Republicans, none would be able to get elected to any office imaginable. Ever.

Of course, Republicans were talking to their base and not the woman they were verbally trying to smear with horrendous garbage. And therein is a snapshot of what today's Republican Party is. It's okay to be a racist. It's okay to be a bigot. It's okay to hate the "OTHER." It's okay to be a bully. It's okay to spit on someone because you have the power to spit on them. It's okay to be a total shit because millions of morons will love it and will vote for you.

The path these Republicans have taken holds no mysteries. We know where it will lead because they've passed every signpost that history has shown us to be deadly to human beings. But they don't give a rat's ass because they believe that we, the majority, can't do one fucking thing to stop their lust for power and the abuse of it. And they may be right.

Winning this November and in November of 2024 is more than a necessity. It's survival. If we lose, we may never again see another election in this country. America, our democracy and our freedoms could/might/will come to an end. That is exactly what the Republicans showed us yesterday and today. If you don't see that at this point, then I'll stop here because further words would be meaningless.
