Given the amount of flip-flopping they're all doing,

shouldn't the symbol of the Republican Party be a fish?

Bonus - like a fish, the Republican Party stinks from the head down!

I find it very hard to discuss politics these days -

especially when the topic is Paul Ryan.

Try as i might, I just can't pronounce Ayn Rand properly!

Nothing wrong with being a SAHM, but it'd be nice to recognize that

most American woman don't have that choice.

Paul Ryan is a flip-flopper, too!

In 2009:

In 2012:
"‘You know you’ve arrived in politics when you have an urban legend about you, and this one is mine,” chuckles Representative Paul Ryan, the Budget Committee chairman, as we discuss his purported obsession with author and philosopher Ayn Rand.

Paul Krugman, the New York Times columnist, recently called Ryan “an Ayn Rand devotee” who wants to “slash benefits for the poor.” New York magazine once alleged that Ryan “requires staffers to read Atlas Shrugged,” Rand’s gospel of capitalism. President Obama has blasted the Ryan budget as Republican “social Darwinism.”

These Rand-related slams, Ryan says, are inaccurate and part of an effort on the left to paint him as a cold-hearted Objectivist. Ryan’s actual philosophy, as reported by my colleague, Brian Bolduc, couldn’t be further from the caricature. As a practicing Roman Catholic, Ryan says, his faith and moral values shape his politics as much as his belief in freedom and capitalism does.
I reject her philosophy,” Ryan says firmly. “It’s an atheist philosophy. It reduces human interactions down to mere contracts and it is antithetical to my worldview. If somebody is going to try to paste a person’s view on epistemology to me, then give me Thomas Aquinas,” who believed that man needs divine help in the pursuit of knowledge. “Don’t give me Ayn Rand,” he says.

LCWR will continue dialogue, but not compromise mission

Source: National Catholic Reporter

ST. LOUIS -- The organization which represents the majority of U.S. Catholic sisters said Friday afternoon it would continue discussions with church officials regarding a Vatican-ordered takeover, but “will reconsider” if it “is forced to compromise the integrity of its mission.”

The statement by the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, which represents some 80 percent of U.S. sisters, came at the end of the group’s annual assembly, held this week in St. Louis.

The sisters were responding to an April 18 mandate by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that ordered the group to revise and place itself under the authority of three U.S. bishops.

Reading aloud from a prepared statement, which came after approval from the 900 sisters gathered at the assembly, LCWR’s president, Franciscan Sr. Pat Farrell, said LCWR membership wanted to use the occasion of the Vatican order “to explain to church leaders LCWR’s mission, values and operating principles.”

I'm slowly starting to feel better, but I've been living with a lot of household mess -

there just were a lot of things I had to let go. Now I don't know where to start. It doesn't help to find out that when I start, i don't have quite the energy i want to have .

Any suggestions or blogs addressing this issue?

"Making our social circles and spaces safe means making them AWKWARD AS HELL and UNSAFE for creeps

and predators. It means constantly reframing the conversation away from the dominant narrative, so when stuff like the situations in these letters comes up we can say “That’s called sexual assault and it’s a crime. So I need you to stop talking to me about his feelings and pressuring me to invite him to parties.“

Parents - if you have a kid, boy or girl, headed off to college the first time, you should sit down with them and talk about how to avoid getting hurt. Girls can be too afraid of making a fuss or too trusting. Boys can be afraid to stand up for a female friend, or worse, get caught up in a culture of abuse.

Any news this morning on voting procedures in Ohio?

Last night Rachel Maddow reported that in Republican counties, the Election Boards decided to expand voting opportunities. In Democratic counties, the boards (2 Republicans, 2 Democrats) were tied, so voting opportunities will be limited. I think the Republican Secretary of State was supposed to make some sort of announcement today around 11AM.

Ohio has 18 electoral votes.
