Oil rises on better US manufacturing, housing data
The price of oil rose on some welcome news about U.S. manufacturing production and home sales.
Benchmark crude rose $1.29 to $80.64 per barrel in New York. Brent crude, which is used to price international varieties of oil, gained 61 cents to $93.63 per barrel in London.
The Commerce Department said factories received more orders in May for long-lasting manufactured goods such as heavy machinery, computers and communications equipment. Oil and other energy products benefit from stronger manufacturing because they are used to help make and ship goods.
The report helped ease recent concerns about slower factory production in the U.S.
Separately, the National Association of Realtors said that Americans signed more contracts to buy previously occupied homes in May, which matched the fastest pace in two years. It follows other recent data that shows steady improvement in the housing market this year.
"Once again, U.S. economic data is confounding the critics," Price Futures Group oil analyst Phil Flynn said. "Maybe the economy isn't so dreary."

"The private sector is doing fine"
That one quote is the only thing the GOP can come up with against President Obama.
The run commercial after commercial that simply repeats the phrase over and over. It is annoying at best and as normal for the GOP, completely out of context.
But I suspect they will run this until November unless The President make another "gaff" if you want to portray it as that.
A message from Martin Sheen re: Sherrod Brown
Hello Friend,
Im Martin Sheen. You know me best as an actor, but I grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and early on in life decided I wouldn't sit on the sidelines when it came to issues of economic and social justice. When a true leader crosses my path -- one who doesnt just talk about progressive values but embodies them -- I act. And I hope you will, too, by supporting Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown.
Sherrod is dedicated to the middle class, to seniors, and to women and families. He doesnt work for the special interests -- he works for the middle class people who make Ohio great.
Sherrod needs our help -- and this country needs the progressive voice of Sherrod Brown. This month, his campaign needs to raise $500,000. Click here to contribute today.
We place a sacred trust in our elected officials. We expect them to stand up with courage and conviction for the things we believe in.
Thats exactly what Sherrod has done. He showed up on Day One a fighting progressive who cared first, last, and always about Ohios working families -- and thats the man he remains today.
Sherrod has already seen $10 million spent against him in his race. He needs to raise $500,000 this month to fight back. Can you contribute $10 or more to support him?
I played a President on TV who could change the debate with a single speech. But in real life, it doesnt work that way. In real life, its up to progressive fighters to protect the vulnerable, hold the special interests accountable, and defeat a right-wing agenda so radical no screenwriter could conceive it.
Sherrod is one of those fighters. I hope I can count on you to join me in standing with him.
Thank you,
Martin Sheen

Romney says Marco Rubio being 'thoroughly vetted' as possible VP
HOLLAND, Mich. -- Mitt Romney on Tuesday called reports that his campaign was not vetting conservative rising star Marco Rubio for the vice presidential nomination "entirely false," and said his campaign is indeed vetting the Florida senator.
"Marco Rubio is being thoroughly vetted as part of our process," Romney told reporters in a hastily-organized statement to the media before a stop at an ice cream shop.
The Romney campaign has jealously guarded information about its vice presidential selection process, with Romney repeating a familiar refrain whenever questions about the number two spot on the ticket are asked: I've got nothing for ya.
Today's statement was the first time Romney or his campaign have officially confirmed that his campaign was vetting anyone.

Romney Plan for Pre-Existing Conditions Draws Dem Fire
"You know, regardless of what they do, it's going to be up to the next president to either repeal and replace Obamacare or to replace Obamacare," Romney told a crowd in Orlando on Tuesday.
"Governor Romney supports reforms to protect those with pre-existing conditions from being denied access to a health plan while they have continuous coverage," she said first in a statement to the Huffington Post later obtained by ABC News.
As for Americans with pre-existing conditions who may not have had continuous insurance coverage or spent a period of time without, Saul said Romney "supports reforms that empower states to make high risk pools more accessible by using cost reducing methods like risk adjustment and reinsurance," but suggested there would be no guarantees.
Sounds like Romney is for death panels.

States with the fastest growing economies
Manufacturing, contributed to nearly a third of total growth.
In most of these 11 states, sector growth was similar to the nation as a whole, with the driving forces behind their growth coming from manufacturing. Six had at least 20 percent of their total growth come from durable goods manufacturing. In Michigan, over 58 percent of the states economic expansion came from durable goods manufacturing. In Oregon, it was 85 percent for total manufacturing.
In other states, such as Alaska, North Dakota and West Virginia, it was natural resource mining that contributed most to GDP growth. Some regional economies expanded the industries in which they specialize. In Washington, 42.5 percent of total GDP growth came from the information sector. Washington has the largest share of its total employment in that industry of any state. In Connecticut, where 8.3 percent of all jobs are in financial services, the second-largest proportion in the U.S., the insurance and finance industries accounted for 30 percent of the states total economic expansion.

Mr. Magic Pants - referring to Mittens Romney by a Cleveland DJ this AM.
I was on my way to work this AM listening to a local Classic Rock station when the DJ talked about the President coming to Cleveland later this week. When he was done telling where the President was going to be and when, he asked if that meant that Mr Magic Pants would be coming to Cleveland too.
That was my morning chuckle.
Both my cars broke down 3 hours apart, what are the chances?
My daughter was out with her friends in her mothers car when it quit. She called me and I hurried to her location to help her, get a tow truck and haul her friends home. This happened at 11 PM. By 2 AM I had the car at the shop and her friends home, I was on the way home in my car when something went pop under the hood and it died. I called the tow truck again (no group discounts). I got home just in time to take a shower and be at work by 6:30.
That is how I needed my vacation, so much for stress relief.
Still waiting to see if either car can be repaired, pretty sure the one can't. So here I sit, now car and my wife is being a pain about replacing the dead one.
She thinks we should do whatever it takes to fix a 12 year old car with 190,000 miles on it. Yes the stress here is so thick, you could cut it with a knife.
Any body have experience leasing a car?
UPDATE ON ONE OF THE CARS:
My wifes car will be fixed today, it was a fuel pump failure. NO engine damage Whew!
calling another user moronic is now OK?
