Pelosi to lead delegation to climate summit amid U.S. withdrawal from Paris climate deal
By Grace Segers
November 30, 2019 / 10:05 AM / CBS News

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading a delegation of members of Congress to the annual international climate summit known as COP25 in Madrid, Spain, next week. While the delegation will include members of both the House and Senate, it will not be bipartisan, as only Democrats will be attending.

"It is a privilege to accompany a high-level Congressional delegation to Spain to combat the existential threat of our time: the climate crisis," Pelosi said in a statement on Saturday.

"Taking action to protect our planet is a public health decision for clean air and clean water for our children, an economic decision for creating the green, good-paying jobs of the future, a national security decision to address resource competition and climate migration and also a moral decision to be good stewards of God's creation and pass a sustainable, healthy planet to the next generation," she said. "On behalf of the U.S. Congress, I am proud to travel to COP25 to reaffirm the commitment of the American people to combating the climate crisis."

Current national pledges would leave the world 5.8 degrees Fahrenheit warmer by 2100 than pre-industrial times, with dramatic consequences for life on Earth, according to the report. A fivefold increase in measures pledged so far would be needed in order to limit the increase to 2.7 degrees, the goal of the climate agreement.

Meanwhile, students around the world skipped school Friday to protest global warming. Demonstrations in Madrid, Tokyo and Melbourne were billed as a "Global Day of Action" ahead of the summit in Madrid.

Mr. Trump is unlikely to attend the summit, but the administration will send a small delegation of career diplomats to represent the U.S., Bloomberg reported. Mr. Trump is set to head to London next week to meet with other world leaders and mark the 70th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance.

House GOP members are 'absolutely disgusted and exhausted' by Trump's behavior, former GOP congressman says
By Kate Sullivan, CNN

Updated 1:14 PM ET, Fri November 29, 2019

(CNN)Former Republican congressman Charlie Dent said Thursday some of his former colleagues in the House of Representatives have privately told him they are "absolutely disgusted and exhausted by the President's behavior."

Dent told CNN's Ana Cabrera on "Newsroom" that House Republicans are standing with the President at the moment because of base pressure, but said "they resent being put in this position all the time."

Dent, who is a CNN political commentator, cited the Trump administration trying to "pivot from the Ukraine scandal" by announcing the 2020 G7 summit at the Trump National Doral resort. The decision was later reversed.

"Moving from one corrupt act to another," Dent said. "I mean those types of head-exploding moments are just I think infuriating these members and I think they'd like to step out but they just can't because of their base at the moment."

Dent served as chairman of the House Ethics Committee from 2015 until 2016 and chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies from 2015 until 2018.

Rep. Ilhan Omar's Republican Opponent Earns Permanent Ban From Twitter

Rep. Ilhan Omar's Republican Opponent Earns Permanent Ban From Twitter
Danielle Stella tweeted that Omar should be tried for treason and hanged.
By Ed Scarce

One wonders how long the Republican Party is going to put up with Stella's antics. But then you look at the Shitgibbon in the Oval Office and just conclude there are no standards anymore. And her claim that Omar is a foreign agent for Qatar was found to be so laughable that even the far-right site The Daily Caller called it "not credible." That hasn't stopped others, like Stella, from propagating the nonsense though, of course.

Danielle Stella, a Republican seeking to unseat Rep. Ilhan Omar, Minnesota Democrat, was suspended from Twitter after her account posted Tuesday about lynching the congresswoman.

Ms. Stella’s campaign account on Twitter, @2020MNCongress, was punted from the platform after posting at least twice about hanging Ms. Omar, a progressive freshman frequently the target of right-wing attacks.

Each tweet involved an accusation recently amplified by Ms. Omar’s opponents that alleges she shared sensitive information with the Iranian government — a claim the congresswoman has since rejected as “outlandishly absurd.”

“If it is proven @IlhanMN passed sensitive info to Iran, she should be tried for #treason and hanged,” Ms. Stella’s campaign account said in the first tweet.

By focusing on impeachment polling, Trump picks the wrong fight

Putting aside the oddity of hearing a presidential crowd chant a profanity, Trump seems almost desperate for people to believe impeachment is unpopular. Maybe he believes it, maybe he hopes Democrats will change direction if they fear a backlash, or maybe the president thinks he can make a falsehood true by simply asserting it, over and over again.

snip//

George Conway yesterday flagged a Gallup poll from late July 1974, released just 11 days before Richard Nixon was forced to announce he would resign in disgrace. The survey found at the time that 46% of Americans wanted to see the corrupt Republican removed from office.

More than 45 years later, CNN released a poll this week that found 50% of Americans want to see Trump impeached and removed from office.

When was the last time half the country wanted to see a sitting president impeached and removed from office? Pretty much never. Since the dawn of modern American polling, this is the first time.

Trump may find solace in the fact that support for polling isn’t already higher, but the news is far less encouraging than he seems to realize: public support for his ouster is extraordinary from a historical perspective.

Republicans To Run Ads On Fox News Supporting Trump Impeachment

Republicans To Run Ads On Fox News Supporting Trump Impeachment

Republicans for the Rule of Law are going to be running an ad campaign on Fox News asking Trump why he won’t allow impeachment witnesses to testify.

Here is the video - at link~

Republicans for the Rule of Law Executive Director Sarah Longwell said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:

The impeachment hearings in the House of Representatives have presented startling evidence that the President of the United States abused his power, strong-arming a foreign government to interfere on his behalf in the upcoming election, and damaging national security in the process. The president denies the allegations, but won’t let key administration officials — including Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, and White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney — testify to Congress.

If the president did nothing wrong, what does he have to hide? If they tell the truth, what is he afraid of? Most importantly, will Republicans in Congress allow the president to simply ignore their constitutionally mandated oversight role?

The media has tried to simplify impeachment into a black and white partisan issue, but there are Republicans in favor of impeachment.

The Republicans for the Rule of Law ask a great question. If Trump is innocent, why is he refusing to allow participation from impeachment witnesses who are working within his administration?

The answer is that if administration officials testified, impeachment support might become bipartisan. It is in Trump’s best interest to make impeachment as a partisan as possible, which is why he is in for a surprise when he turns on his favorite morning TV show next week and sees Republicans calling him out.

David Corn: There's Just One Problem With Dems Fast-Tracking Impeachment

There’s Just One Problem With Dems Fast-Tracking Impeachment
His name is Mitch McConnell.
David Corn

At the start of this week, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), chair of the House Intelligence Committee, sent a letter to his colleagues in the House that provided a status report on the impeachment inquiry he has been overseeing. He noted that after weeks of investigation and public hearings, “We have uncovered a months-long effort in which President Trump again sought foreign interference in our elections for his personal and political benefit at the expense of our national interest.” And he informed his fellow House members that the committee was preparing a report that will be handed to the judiciary committee “soon after” Congress’ Thanksgiving recess—and that the judiciary committee will then proceed with the “next phase” of the impeachment inquiry. Schiff wrote, “This is an urgent matter that cannot wait if we are to protect the nation’s security and the integrity of our elections.” He added, “we will continue with our investigative work and do not foreclose the possibility of further depositions or hearings, we will not allow the President or others to drag this out for months on end in the courts.”

The message: Impeachment is on a fast track. That’s been House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s strategy—stick to a narrow case for impeachment (the Ukrainian caper), don’t get bogged down in a lengthy and complicated investigation, demonstrate that House Democrats are not overly fixated on impeachment at the expense of other work, and don’t test the voting public’s patience. This certainly makes sense. Though public opinion polls show support for Trump’s impeachment at about 50 percent, Democratic strategists are convinced that a long, drawn-out process will turn the public against the Democrats. And the next election is just around the corner. The closer an impeachment trial in the Senate gets to Election Day, the more power there will be to the Republican argument that voters across the land should decide Trump’s fate, not a bunch of senators in Washington. So the Democratic plan appears to be to draw up and vote on—and presumably approve—articles of impeachment before Congress breaks for the holidays in mid-December.

There is a possible problem with this approach: Mitch McConnell. Once the House Democrats adopt those articles and kick impeachment over to the Senate for trial, they will lose control of the narrative. And then McConnell, the wily Republican leader in the Senate, and other GOPers in that body will be in charge of the story. Though Chief Justice John Roberts would preside over an impeachment trial, McConnell has a lot of leeway in setting some ground rules for that historic event. Imagine if Trump’s defense team wants to emulate the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee and call Hunter Biden, the whistleblower, and others to the stand as part of Trump’s defense—to turn the trial into a circus or advance the phony cover stories, excuses, and distractions Trump and his allies have cooked up. The proceedings could turn into a free-for-all and provide Trump and the Republicans a platform for their various conspiracy theories. (Ukraine intervened in the 2016 election! Where are the Democratic servers?) Perhaps Roberts could keep the Republicans in line, but Senate rules do allow a majority to vote on questions of evidence and other matters. The rules state that the chief justice “may rule on all questions of evidence including, but not limited to, questions of relevancy, materiality, and redundancy of evidence and incidental questions, which ruling shall stand as the judgment of the Senate, unless some Member of the Senate shall ask that a formal vote be taken thereon, in which case it shall be submitted to the Senate for decision without debate.”

In other words, the Republicans could try to use the trial for their own purposes. And even if they don’t succeed in getting these and other witnesses to the stand, just having the fight will help them and Trump. During the recent hearings, Schiff was able to prevent Republicans from circusfying the sessions because he held the gavel. He rejected their requests for these sorts of witnesses. In the Senate, Roberts and McConnell’s majority, which is hostile to the impeachment process, will be in charge.

Then there’s Sen. Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican who behaves like Trump’s Mini-Me. He has already announced he’ll conduct an investigation and hold hearings related to the activities of Joe and Hunter Biden in Ukraine. (There are no credible allegations they engaged in any wrongdoing.) Whether or not McConnell can turn the impeachment inquiry into a trial of the Bidens, Graham is aiming to do that on his own. Once the House passes articles of impeachment, the Senate Republicans could gain monopoly control of the Trump-Ukraine tale and use their power to morph a story of Trump wrongdoing into one of Democratic scheming and malfeasance.

Trump Goes To Fantasyland, Claims He Beat Barack Obama In Mystery Election
At his Florida rally, Donald Trump proved he lives in a different world where things happen that no one else witnesses.

There is something wrong with Donald Trump. No, not the usual nonsense that we all know is wrong. I mean something really, truly wrong in his brain.

In this short clip, Trump bragged, "And we beat Barack Hussein Obama and whatever dynasty that was."

When was that election between the U.S. President forced into retirement by the U.S. Constitution and the madman at the podium?

Worse yet, watch the crowd. Like the cult they are, they're on their feet cheering like what he just said could be real if they just clap enough and believe enough.

Rick Ross at the Cult Education Institute has defined 10 warning signs of people involved in or with a potential cult member.

Extreme obsessiveness regarding the group/leader resulting in the exclusion of almost every practical consideration.

Individual identity, the group, the leader and/or God as distinct and separate categories of existence become increasingly blurred. Instead, in the follower's mind these identities become substantially and increasingly fused--as that person's involvement with the group/leader continues and deepens.

Whenever the group/leader is criticized or questioned it is characterized as "persecution".

Uncharacteristically stilted and seemingly programmed conversation and mannerisms, cloning of the group/leader in personal behavior.

Dependency upon the group/leader for problem solving, solutions, and definitions without meaningful reflective thought. A seeming inability to think independently or analyze situations without group/leader involvement.

Hyperactivity centered on the group/leader agenda, which seems to supercede any personal goals or individual interests.

A dramatic loss of spontaneity and sense of humor.

Increasing isolation from family and old friends unless they demonstrate an interest in the group/leader.
Anything the group/leader does can be justified no matter how harsh or harmful.

Former followers are at best-considered negative or worse evil and under bad influences. They can not be trusted and personal contact is avoided.

Mia Farrow Resurfaces Photo of Trump's Sons Posing with Dead Leopard As Animal Cruelty Becomes Federal Crime
By Tufayel Ahmed On 11/27/19 at 5:30 AM EST

Actress Mia Farrow took a shot at President Donald Trump and his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump after the president signed into law a bill making animal cruelty a federal crime.

Farrow resurfaced a photo of Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump posing with a dead leopard during a hunting trip in Zimbabwe in 2010. The Rosemary's Baby star wrote alongside the image that she posted on Tuesday: "@realDonaldTrump ⁩tell your sons that animal cruelty is now a crime."

The Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act was signed into law by President Trump on Monday. People convicted of acts of animal cruelty—including suffocating, burning, crushing and/or drowning animals—can now face up to seven years in prison. There were previously varying degrees of state-level animal cruelty laws in all 50 states.

"It is important that we combat these heinous and sadistic acts of cruelty, which are totally unacceptable in a civilized society," said Trump as he signed the bill on Monday, The New York Times reported.

Michael Bloomberg on Marijuana: Legalizing 'Another Addictive Narcotic' Is Perhaps 'Stupidest Thing Anybody Has Ever Done'
By Tim Marcin On 1/23/19 at 12:47 PM EST

Former New York City Mayor—and potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate—Michael Bloomberg called efforts to legalize marijuana "perhaps the stupidest thing anybody has ever done."

Speaking at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on Tuesday, Bloomberg said on the subject, according to WBNG-TV:

"We have a different kind of problem in America, for example. Last year, in 2017, 72,000 Americans [overdosed] on drugs. In 2018, more people than that are OD-ing on drugs, have OD'd on drugs. And today, incidentally, we are trying to legalize another addictive narcotic, which is perhaps the stupidest thing anybody has ever done. We've got to fight that, and that's another thing that Bloomberg Philanthropies will work on it in public health."

The position from the billionaire politician would seem to be out of step with Democratic leaders in his state and liberal voters nationwide. Newly re-elected New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, for instance, said he would make legalization a priority in a December speech outlining the goals for his first 100 days of his new term.

Anonymous Will Reveal Their Identity
November 26, 2019 at 9:06 pm EST By Taegan Goddard

The anonymous White House official who has written a bombshell book about President Trump’s tenure says they will not remain anonymous forever, during a public interview on Reddit.

Said the person: “As far as anonymity is concerned, I will not keep my identity shrouded in secrecy forever. I am not afraid to use my own name to express concern about the current occupant of the Oval Office. Donald Trump has not heard the last of me. There is more to come.”

They added: “Other people who are currently serving, and who have left, are also considering adding their voices before votes are cast in 2020. We talk about this with some regularity.”
