GOP fears Trump backlash in suburbs
By Julia Manchester and Scott Wong - 08/31/19 05:48 AM EDT

Republicans are growing increasingly worried they will lose the suburbs for a second election in a row — this time with President Trump at the top of the ticket in 2020.

The GOP forfeited the House in 2018 largely after losing suburban women voters, a key voting bloc that turns out at the polls but with whom Trump has proven particularly unpopular since becoming president.

The suburbs could also pose a threat to Trump’s reelection chances, as well as a number of vulnerable Senate Republicans facing uphill reelection battles in states like Colorado, Maine, North Carolina and Arizona. The GOP currently holds a narrow 53-47 majority in the upper chamber.

Republican lawmakers and strategists say they face an even bigger challenge winning back suburban House districts, especially given Trump’s controversial actions in recent days.

“Republicans are staring down another election cycle defending their incredibly unpopular agenda in Washington that raised health care costs and taxes for millions of Americans,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman Cole Leiter said in a statement to The Hill.

“Add an historically unpopular President at the top of their ticket and you can understand why more and more Republicans in Washington are considering throwing in the towel rather than run a difficult race for their final 15 months in office,” he continued.

Pentagon Says Trump Was Never Supposed To Share Picture Of Damaged Iranian Launchpad

Trump tweeted a picture of a damaged Iranian launchpad that was part of an intelligence briefing that he was not supposed to publicly share.

Trump tweeted:
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
The United States of America was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations for the Safir SLV Launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran. I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One.

CNBC reported:

Trump’s denial also included what looked to be an aerial photograph of the launch site, complete with graphics and annotations describing the scene.

A U.S. defense official told CNBC that the picture in Trump’s tweet, which appeared to be a snapshot of a physical copy of the satellite image, was included in a Friday intelligence briefing.

Experts told CNBC that the shot was likely never meant for public view.

There us shadow in the picture that Trump tweeted that appears to be the president snapping a shot of intelligence briefing, which he then tweeted out to his followers.

Recklessness with classified information has been a hallmark of the Trump presidency. Trump has leaked classified intelligence to America’s enemies and blabbed about intel to the American people.

The federal government has to hide information from the President Of The United States or risk it ending up on Twitter.

The biggest national security to the American people is sitting in the Oval Office, and the nation won’t be safe until Trump gets shipped back to Trump Tower.

A student in Indiana was sent home from school because she wore an anti-discrimination T-shirt. Her parents now want the school to apologize.

Eighth grade student Renee Williams wore a T-shirt to Highland Hills Middle School in Georgetown, Indiana, this past Wednesday that said “Why be racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic when you could just be quiet?”

“She has four moms, she does have people in her life that are black, she has people in her life that are Hispanic, and she has people in her life that are trans,” her stepmother told WTHR.

“Of course she is a growing girl herself so she’s going to learn all about sexism.”

She was taken to the principal’s office by a teacher, where she was forced to put on a sweater.

The parents have reached out to a school board member, but were told that wearing an anti-racism T-shirt is the same as wearing a swastika to school.

“He said that if we let her wear her shirt to school, then what’s to keep us from having white supremacists come in wearing swastikas on their shirts,” the stepmother said.

On Thursday, several of her classmates walked out of class in solidarity with the teen.

US Attorney Cuts Neo-Nazis Down To Size With Brutal Press Conference Remarks

US Attorney Cuts Neo-Nazis Down To Size With Brutal Press Conference Remarks
"If you want to waste the blessings of liberty by going down a path of hatred and failed ideologies, that is your choice," said a visibly determined Justin Herdman.

By Aliza Worthington

Another day, another white guy living with his mom threatening to shoot up a synagogue. This one, James Reardon, a 20-year-old Nazi-wannabe threatened to shoot up a Jewish Community Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He was caught because a someone brought the threat he'd posted on Instagram to the attention of the police, and police took it seriously enough to search his house (his mom answered the door.) When they found all the weapons and ammo, they arrested him, having also seen all the anti-Semitic content he gleefully posted on his social media accounts.

On Thursday, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Justin Herdman, announced charges against Reardon, but what made this presser unusual was his message for the other pathetic Hitler-ites who think that they can not only say whatever they want, but do whatever they want with impunity. Here are some excerpts from Herdman's remarks, which were unusually powerful because of their strength and determination, but also for the way they cut white supremacists down to the size they deserve. Dare I say, the size of insects?

Now, let me speak generally to those who are advocates for white supremacy or white nationalism. I am talking directly to you. The Constitution protects your right to speak, your right to think, and your right to believe. If you want to waste the blessings of liberty by going down a path of hatred and failed ideologies, that is your choice.

Democracy allows you to test those ideas in a public forum. If you want to submit your beliefs to the American people and get their reaction, please be our guest. Keep this in mind, though. Thousands and thousands of young Americans already voted with their lives to make sure that this same message of intolerance, death, and destruction would not prevail. You can count their ballots by visiting any American cemetery in North Africa, Italy, France, or Belgium, and tallying the white headstones. You can also recite the many names of civil rights advocates who bled and died in opposing supporters of that same ideologies of hatred. Their voices may be distant, but they can still be heard.

Go ahead and make your case for Nazism, a white nation, and racial superiority. The Constitution may give you a voice, but it doesn't guarantee you a receptive audience. Your right to free speech does not automatically mean that people will agree with you. In fact, you have a God-given and inalienable right to be on the losing end of this argument.

[...]

Threatening to kill Jewish people, gunning down innocent Latinos on a weekend shopping trip, planning and plotting to perpetrate murders in the name of a nonsense racial theory, sitting to pray with God-fearing people who you execute moments later - those actions don't make you soldiers, they make you cowards. And law enforcement does not go to war with cowards who break the law, we arrest them and send them to prison.

[...]

Together, we are united to ensure that you commit no further acts of violence in the name of your beliefs. When you wake up tomorrow morning, no matter what time that is, I want you to remember something. You can’t set your alarm clock early enough to beat us out of bed. The men and women of law enforcement don’t wake up. We never go to sleep. We are always awake. And arm in arm with the public, when your hatred leads you to break the law, we will do everything we can to be there to stop you.

If only our president, attorney general, and Senate majority leader agreed.

Pharmacies Owned by GOP Rep. Prescribed Massive Number of Opioid Doses in Small Communities

https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/report-pharmacies-owned-by-gop-rep-prescribed-massive-amount-of-opioids-to-community-of-6000/?fbclid=IwAR29t7RjYheCDxtBM0kuainoHckFSrDFqO4X-Q7StMykoarfQ0TQV8ED2mE

Pharmacies Owned by GOP Rep. Prescribed Massive Number of Opioid Doses in Small Communities: Report
by Jerry Lambe | 5:30 pm, August 29th, 2019

Two Louisiana pharmacies owned by Republican Rep. Ralph Abraham, Clinic Pharmacy of Mangham and Adams Clinic Pharmacy of Winnsboro, sit just 12.5 miles apart and serve a combined community of approximately 6,000 people. Yet despite serving relatively sparse populations, the two pharmacies reportedly prescribed a total of 1,478,236 doses of opioid painkillers from 2006 to 2012, more than 35 doses per person, according to a report from the Bayou Brief.

The report, which is based on numbers from the Drug Enforcement Administration database published by the Washington Post in July, shows that Abraham’s Winnsboro pharmacy more than doubled the number of opioids it peddled to patients over the seven-year period, with opioid prescription fillings skyrocketing by 67-percent. It also states that Richland county, one of the least populated in Louisiana, ranking 46 of 64, ranked eighth in total number of opioid prescriptions filled. Since 2017, the number of opioid prescriptions has outpaced the human population, with 113 prescriptions being dispensed for every 100

Abraham is a physician who has spoken about the medicinal benefits of treating pain with opioids.

“In the medical profession, for these chronic pain, poor cancer patients that need help, we have other alternatives that work better, Dilaudid, OxyContin, you name it, Oxycodone, we have several options that do a much better job for chronic pain,” Abraham said during a 2014 election debate. “I’ve had hundreds of patients unfortunately with cancer that I’ve treated, they do well with these drugs.”

Abraham has also been stringently opposed to state and municipal lawsuits against the manufacturers and distributors of opioids. In a 2017 interview with a local radio station, Abraham said the blame lies with those who abuse the drugs and that manufacturers were “simply meeting a demand,” though he did equivocate as to whether any physicians were at fault for over-prescribing.

“I wanna get some objective data first, and I don’t want it to be you know, like some of these large class-action suits that we have had in the past, where they just throw the baby out with the bathwater,” Abraham said. “So, you know, let’s see where the problem lies. You’re correct, the manufacturers are simply meeting a demand that is being, maybe, abused by some physicians. Certainly abused, illicitly, by some street dealers,” he concluded.

Abraham has also found himself in hot water earlier this week after his campaign released an ad, in which he says, “As a doctor, I can assure you there are only two genders,” which his detractors say is indicative of his discriminatory stance toward the LGTBQ community.

Neil Cavuto Torches Trump for Whining About Fox News: You're Not Entitled to Our Loyalty

Neil Cavuto Torches Trump for Whining About Fox News: You’re Not Entitled to Our Loyalty
“I don’t work for you. My job is to cover you, not fawn over you or rip you, just cover you,” Cavuto said.

Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto on Thursday fired back at President Donald Trump over his persistent whining about Fox News of late, telling the president that he is not entitled to undivided loyalty from the network and should not expect to get a “free pass.”

Noting at the end of his Fox News broadcast on Thursday that Trump had complained earlier in the day to Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade that he was not happy with the conservative-leaning network, Cavuto said that he thinks it’s “weird” that Trump complains about Fox because the channel gives him “pretty fair coverage.”

“But the president making clear to fact-check him is to be all but dead to him and his legion of supporters who let me know in no uncertain terms I am either with him totally or I am a Never-Trumper bully,” the Fox host stated. “There are no grays. No middle grounds. You are either all in or you’re just out. Loyal on everything or not to be trusted on anything.”

Pointing out that the president has recently urged his supporters to stop watching Fox News because the network’s no longer working for him, Cavuto declared that his job is not to appease the president.

“First of all, Mr. President, we don’t work for you,” Cavuto declared. “I don’t work for you. My job is to cover you, not fawn over you or rip you, just cover you. Call balls and strikes. Our job is to keep score, not settle scores.”

The longtime Fox News personality then went on to highlight a number of Trump’s false statements, flip-flops, and outright lies, letting Trump know that checking what the president says is part of his job.

“These aren’t fake items,” Cavuto said after listing off a bunch of the president’s most notorious comments. “They are real items and you really said them, just like you never paid to silence a porn star until it turns out you did.”

A key voting bloc sours on Trump: White non-college educated women

A key voting bloc sours on Trump: White non-college educated women

Trump's entire 2020 election strategy rests on firing up his base and turning those voters out in droves. But what if a voting bloc he won handily in 2016 is showing serious signs of Trump fatigue, regret, and even revulsion? That is exactly the case among non-college educated white women.

As journalist Ronald Brownstein notes, every quality data source showed Trump winning non-college educated white women by more than 20 points. Pew, for instance, had Trump winning the bloc by 23 points, 56% to 33% for Clinton. The 2016 exit polls showed Trump winning white non-college women by 27 points, 61% to 34%.

This week's Quinnipiac poll, however, showed Trump underwater with non-college white women by 6 points, according to Brownstein. In fact, Brownstein first noted the trend in July when he wrote about a series of focus groups conducted by Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg in small towns and rural communities. Greenberg said that while white working-class men were mostly sticking by Trump, white working-class women had been turned off by Trump's divisive racial and ideological message.

“The white working-class men look like they are approaching the 2016 margins for Trump, but not the women,” Greenberg told Brownstein. “Clearly the women are in a different place.” For instance, the report notes that these women often said Trump's rhetoric sounded “racist” or “ignorant," even though many do believe there's a crisis at the border.

Following a July poll from Quinnipiac, The Washington Post's Greg Sargent reached out to the polling outfit for some cross tabs on a question about the likelihood of voters casting a ballot for Trump. The poll found that a plurality of white non-college educated women said they would "definitely not vote" for Trump, at 47%, compared to 43% saying the definitely would vote for him, leaving Trump -3 points underwater with the demographic. Their male counterparts were much more bullish on Trump, with 48% vowing to vote for Trump while 34% pledged not to.

Chart showing 47% of white non-college women pledging not to vote for Trump while only 43% pledged that they would vote for him.

That trend continued in this week's Q poll, with both Biden and Sanders winning the demographic against Trump while Elizabeth Warren trails them narrowly, according to Brownstein.

That's a far cry from winning white non-college educated women by 20-plus points in 2016.

Inspector General Report Reveals Charges Against James Comey To Be Mind-Numbingly Stupid

Inspector General Report Reveals Charges Against James Comey To Be Mind-Numbingly Stupid
By Jeremy Stahl

On Thursday, the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General released its long-awaited report on James Comey’s handling of a series of memos documenting alleged obstruction of justice by President Donald Trump. The IG found “no evidence” that Comey had leaked classified information to the media as the president has repeatedly and falsely alleged. It was reported earlier this month that the DOJ would not be bringing any charges against Comey.

Because the principal conclusion clears Comey, Trump’s defenders are understandably focused on the IG report’s second main finding: That Comey’s handling of the memos “violated Department and FBI policies concerning the retention, handling, and dissemination of FBI records and information, and violated the requirements of Comey’s FBI Employment Agreement.”

snip//

If you actually read the 61-page IG report in full, though, it makes clear that not only did Trump fabricate the principal charge that Comey leaked classified information, but the secondary charge for which the IG has now slapped Comey’s wrist is mind-numbingly dumb.

First, in May 2017, the New York Times published an article describing a contemporaneous memo Comey had written documenting a one-on-one meeting in which the president had allegedly asked the-then FBI director to drop any investigation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. (The president has denied making these statements.) That article led directly to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who ultimately won a guilty plea against Flynn for lying to the FBI and documented ten instances of likely obstruction of justice by Trump, including Comey’s firing and the aforementioned demand that Comey end the Flynn probe. (As the Mueller report dryly describes Trump’s attempts to deny this incident: “Despite those denials, substantial evidence corroborates Comey’s account.”) The following month, Comey testified before Congress that he had leaked the memo to the Times through a friend in order to spur the appointment of the special counsel, who would ultimately uncover the president’s apparent obstruction of justice.

This material—along with three other memos documenting his interactions with Trump that Comey had taken home, kept in a personal safe, and handed over to personal attorneys including the friend who shared some of the material with the Times—is what Comey allegedly mishandled.

As a source familiar with the matter confirmed to me last April, two of these memos were unclassified, one had information that Comey had redacted from the material he handed to his attorneys and that was later classified, and the other had material that was also classified after the fact. (Comey had not classified any of this material when he wrote it and told the IG that he considered it personal material, a position which the IG rejected.) In its report, the IG confirmed this description of the classification status of the material and added that the fourth memo had been classified after-the-fact because it contained a quote from Trump apparently demeaning to a foreign country, a decision Comey responded to by saying “are you guys kidding me?”

In any event, none of the classified information was ever handed to a media organization, according to the IG, despite Trump’s repeated claims that Comey “gave {his memo} to a friend to leak classified information” to the media and “leaked CLASSIFIED information, for which he should be prosecuted.”

How Pete Buttigieg Plans to Catch Up
August 29, 2019 at 4:29 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

BuzzFeed News: “The strategy… is to catch up with other campaign organizations in the early caucus and primary states and wait for candidates with less money to drop. Buttigieg’s paid staff has grown to more than 300 — up from 30 just a few months ago — with about 70 on the ground in Iowa and 50 in New Hampshire. New field offices are scheduled to open across both states next week. And the campaign has ramped up its digital advertising, using platforms such as Spotify.”

“One move not under consideration: attacking Biden, who leads in most polls, or the others standing between him and Buttigieg. Past primaries have shown little benefit for those who target a frontrunner.”

Said adviser Lis Smith: “The first phase was just getting people to understand how to pronounce this impossible to pronounce Maltese last name. The second phase was to blow everyone out of the water on fundraising — everyone out of the fucking water. Done. Done. Now the third phase is blow them out of the water with our organization and our organizational abilities.”

Retired admiral jumps into Iowa Senate race against Joni Ernst with blistering message...

Retired admiral jumps into Iowa Senate race against Joni Ernst with blistering message for Trump’s enablers
By
Stephen D. Foster Jr -
August 26, 2019

Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and her fellow Republicans should be terrified of losing her seat in 2020 now that retired Vice Admiral Michael Franken has entered the race as a Democratic challenger.

Ernst is already facing an uphill battle in 2020 to keep her Senate seat as she faces angry voters at home for refusing to pass gun control measures aimed at preventing mass shootings in the wake of 22 people being murdered by a white nationalist in El Paso earlier this month.

And much of that refusal has to do with Ernst and her Republican colleagues not wanting to stand up to President Donald Trump and the NRA, which is something else voters have hammered Ernst for in recent months.

Long story short, Democrats are smelling blood in the water, which is why several have stepped up to challenge the incumbent Republican. And now Democrats have a high-ranking candidate in the field to take on the former Iowa Army National Guard Lt. Colonel.

Hailing from the most conservative part of the state, Franken served in the United States Navy for decades, attaining the rank of Vice Admiral during a distinguished career in which he had no fear voicing his opposition to the Iraq War, something he proudly mentions in a video announcing his candidacy.
