Murder-suicide in central FL. My brother-in-law worked with him

He’d apparently recently purchased a gun and suspected his wife was having an affair

My brother-in-law said that topic had never come up and he’d even brought his kids into work before. Seemed a nice guy

Police: Central Florida man fatally shoots wife, 2 sons and self

There was no evidence of a struggle. Haines City is southwest of Orlando.

Mark Joseph, 43, had called 911 and told dispatchers that he had shot his wife and children, police said. He then told the dispatcher that he intended to shoot himself and that the door would be unlocked.

Responding officers and deputies said they Marie Joseph, 43, lying on a couch with her husband in a nearby chair. Darren Joseph, 18, and Markus Joseph, 14, were found in their respective beds.

All four had gunshot wounds to the head, investigators said. Marie Joseph had also been shot in the shoulder.

Trump likes to claim that H1N1 was worse - and that Obama somehow botched the response

Between Apr. 2009-Apr. 2010, CDC estimates 12,469 H1N1 deaths in U.S.

#COVID19 deaths in the U.S. just reached this mark, and it happened in less than 6 weeks since the first U.S. death

Dayton Jones: Felon freed by fmr KY Gov Bevin last year now accused of child porn

https://www.fox19.com/2020/04/07/dayton-jones-felon-freed-by-bevin-last-year-now-accused-child-porn/
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A man whose 15-year prison sentence was commuted by former Gov. Matt Bevin on Bevin’s way out of office last fall is now the subject of additional allegations.

Dayton Jones, 24, of Hopkinsville, is accused of producing and sharing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Kentucky announced the new charge in a statement Tuesday.

...

Jones had previously been convicted of sodomy and wanton endangerment in the brutal attack of a teenager at a party in 2014. Jones was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but was among one of several controversial pardons and commutations by Bevin following the former governor’s unsuccessful bid for re-election late last year.

So, I apologized to someone on FB

In a local FB group, debate gets very heated re: politics and this whole situation going on in the world. I seemed to keep going at it with one guy in particular. I’d thought some of his posts were sensical but sometimes it seemed like an alter-ego would kick in and I’d rip into those posts.

I’ve been focusing so much on all this and the financial aspect is hitting harder and harder as I near my furlough date in a couple weeks and fully expect not to be back at work until Labor Day, maybe.

So today, I saw another post of his and it was one I would have made, myself. So I messaged him privately and apologized for my online behavior

He replied in apologetic tones, himself, and said he can be an ass online (as can I)

We ended up messaging back and forth for about two hours and both agreed on so many things and just the stress (and anonymity of the online world) got the better of both of us.

It felt good to find common ground and I think for the first time that new phrase (we’re going to get through this together) actually had some real meaning to me.

Every Vaccine and Treatment in Development for COVID-19, So Far

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/every-vaccine-treatment-covid-19-so-far/?from=timeline&isappinstalled=0
As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to skyrocket, healthcare researchers around the world are working tirelessly to discover new life-saving medical innovations.

The projects these companies are working on can be organized into three distinct groups:

Diagnostics: Quickly and effectively detecting the disease in the first place
Treatments: Alleviating symptoms so people who have disease experience milder symptoms, and lowering the overall mortality rate
Vaccines: Preventing transmission by making the population immune to COVID-19
Today’s graphics provide an in-depth look at who’s in the innovation race to defeat the virus, and they come to us courtesy of Artis Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on life sciences and tech investments.

Why is the Covid-19 fatality rate calculated based on no of total cases, not resolved cases?

According to this site:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

There are about 8500 deaths and about 15,000 recovered

That means of the 311k total cases, only 23,500 have come to a conclusion. And of those, well over 1/3 has resulted in death vs recovery

That. Seems. VERY. Scary.

From a schoolmate who lives nearby. Man in Louisville chokes teen he thinks wasn't social distancing

https://www.reddit.com/r/ActualPublicFreakouts/comments/fv2a12/man_strangles_teenage_girl_for_failing_to_social/

Unbelievable

The teens did appear to be congregating improperly, esp in light of how much Gov Beshear has pushed for social distancing but this guy should be spending the night in jail

Shop Towels for masks? 93% of particles down to 0.3 microns?

https://www.businessinsider.com/homemade-mask-using-hydro-knit-shop-towel-filters-better-2020-4
The ideal material turned out to be stretchy blue shop towels made from a polyester hydro knit.

Inserting two of these towels into an ordinary cotton mask brought filtration up to 93% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, the smallest their machine could test. Meanwhile, the cotton masks filtered 60% of particles at best in their tests, Schempf said.
