"The Republican Party is now a regional rump party awaiting extinction."

Like death, taxes, and the sun rising in the east, there is nothing more certain after a presidential election than a swift and usually overwrought round of analysis and advice for the losers. So it is this year for Republicans. If you Google “Republicans Whigs,” and confine your search to the past week, you will find multiple pages dedicated to the proposition that demographic trends are waiting to overwhelm the Republican Party, which is now a regional rump party awaiting extinction.

GOP re: Patraeus: Oh, who cares what he thinks ...

Petraeus, who gave evidence to both the Senate and House intelligence committees, said that references to the group alleged to have been behind the 11 September attack were in the CIA's classified talking points, which were classified, but removed from the unclassified memo relied upon by Rice. The reason, he said, was not to tip off the group about what the US authorities knew.

Paula Broadwell Crashing On Petraeus Family’s Couch Until Sex Scandal Blows Over

Paula Broadwell Crashing On Petraeus Family’s Couch Until Sex Scandal Blows Over

?6078

SPRINGFIELD, NH—In an effort to escape the intense media scrutiny surrounding her recently exposed liaison with former CIA director David Petraeus, Paula Broadwell is reportedly crashing on the Petraeus family’s couch until the uproar blows over. “Holly [Petraeus] has been the most gracious hostess throughout this whole ordeal,” Broadwell said of the woman whom she once spent hours interviewing while having an affair with her husband and writing his biography. “I wouldn’t blame her if the arrangement has left her feeling a little put out—houseguests can be a pretty big inconvenience—but she’s been really sweet about it. She gave me a couple of David’s old Army uniforms to sleep in and some fleece blankets from the closet.” At press time, sources confirmed Broadwell’s offer to help Holly Petraeus do the dishes had been politely rebuffed.

Arizona Gun Store Refuses To Sell Guns To Anyone Who Voted For Obama

Arizona Gun Store Refuses To Sell Guns To Anyone Who Voted For Obama
By Adam Peck posted from ThinkProgress Election on Nov 16, 2012 at 6:45 pm

The owner of the Southwest Shooting Authority in Pinetop, Arizona is testing out a new business strategy: banning anyone who voted for President Obama from the store.

Owner Cope Reynolds took out an ad in the local newspaper announcing his new policy, writing “If you voted for Barack Obama, your business is not welcome at Southwest Shooting Authority.” A similar sign is posted on the front door of the shop as well.

Reynolds prefaced his ad campaign with a letter posted to firearm news website AmmoLand:

Effective immediately, if you voted for Obama, your money is no good here. You have proven beyond a doubt that you are not responsible enough to own a firearm. We have just put a sign up on the front door to save you the trouble of walking all the way in here….

Gun advocates have been notoriously critical of the Obama administration for its perceived slights of the second amendment, this despite overseeing the expansion of gun rights during Obama’s first four years in the White House.

Paying For a More Civilized Society

“Oh please. Taxes are not *your* money. If people could give up the idea that it’s THEIR money being pried out of their hands, rather than just another bill, there’d be a lot less whining. You want lights, you pay the electric company. You want a place to live, you pay the bank or landlord. You want food, you pay the grocery store. You want to live in a civilized society, you pay taxes. Get. Over. It.”

HOSTESS Spinning BOGUS Story: NO profitable company shuts down over a spat with labor.

Just a drive by, but on the Hostess thing : no profitable company shuts
down over a spat with labor. The deadline was always bogus, they never
intended to re open the doors. Just a way to spin it as the fault of
greedy employees versus incompetent management.

Hostess came out of bankruptcy in 2009. Went back in (Chapter 11) in 2011 (I think). Been negotiating with labor this year over new contracts, pensions, etc., in BK court. The strike is a response to management's latest offer, basically.

So now Hostess is going Chapter 7 (liquidation), 'cause they really don't have a choice. Bad management, sez I, but you can read the Fortune article and decide for yourself.

MEGA-OUCH: Fox News Chief On Karl Rove’s Election-Night Meltdown: HE Was Wrong, WE Were Right

Fox News Chief On Karl Rove’s Election-Night Meltdown: He Was Wrong, We Were Right

Fox News chief Roger Ailes on Thursday explained what happened behind the scenes during the network's election-night snafu with Karl Rove, who criticized Fox for allegedly calling Ohio prematurely for President Obama. After Ailes saw the scene, he called executive vice president of news Michael Clemente and instructed him to have anchor Megyn Kelly confront the network's decision desk. Ailes urged Clemente to stay on the story and not break for commercial.

“As it turned out Rove was wrong. He backed down. Our guys were right. We stayed with it. Megyn did her famous walk down the hall. And it all worked out,” Ailes told TVNewser.

Terrific! Rep. Gutierrez Introduces Republicans to Latinos, Again

I’ve been trying to introduce my colleagues in the Republican Party to real Latinos and immigrants for some time. I’ve worked on bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bills and stayed at the table to work out a compromise even when all the Republicans left the table.

But the Republican Party seemed much more interested in the imaginary Latinos they tried to use as a wedge issue. So they crafted messages aimed at the very few Americans who are not offended when Republicans talk about criminals, gang-bangers, freeloaders, and law-breakers whenever they talk about Latinos and immigrants.

The party nominated a Presidential candidate who carried around a to-do list of creative ways to offend Latinos. Call for more than 10 million people and their families to “self-deport?” Check. Celebrate the extreme Arizona approach to immigration laws? Check. Threaten to veto the DREAM Act and let hundreds of thousands of young people who have applied for Deferred Action fear for their future? Check.

Stand with other Republicans and beg for their endorsement when they have called for electrified fencing to keep out immigrants because, quote "that works on livestock"? Check, check and check.

I believe Election Day was check-mate for the Republican Party’s extreme, unfair and intolerant anti-immigrant policies.
