kpete's JournalNew Jersey GOPer Failed To File For Senate Race Because - He Was Stuck In Traffic
The only thing that would have made this a better story would have been if he had been stuck in traffic on the George Washington Bridge.
.............
Im stuck in traffic, Turkavage told the New Jersey newspaper.
Turkavage said he had collected the necessary 1,000 signatures to run but was too busy to turn in the petition earlier.
To make a long story short, I called them to see if I could get down there. They said if youre not there until 4, dont bother coming, Turkavage said.

KRUGMAN: Permahawkery---Being an inflation hawk means never having to say you’re sorry.

Martin Feldstein warns us that the Fed isnt taking the risk of rapidly rising inflation seriously enough. Certainly nobody can accuse him of that failing: hes been warning about looming inflation for four years, eleven months, and two weeks, and hasnt let the fact that inflation has kept falling below target alter his concerns in the slightest.
In fact, Martys new column is almost identical in its argument to what he wrote in April 2009: he warns that the Fed wont pull back the liquidity it created when the economy recovers, and inflation will soar. Whats interesting now is that he freely admits that the Fed does, in fact, have multiple instruments with which to pull back liquidity and forestall inflation if recovery ever really comes. It can raise the interest rate on reserves; it can sell securities. But he worries that it wont do these things because it will be embarrassed if it finds itself paying more in interest than it is earning on its portfolio.
Might we suggest that the answer here is, dont be embarrassed? Were talking about trivial sums Im not sure if Treasury has already promised to hold the Fed financially harmless, but if not it could easily be arranged. The point is that this has to be one of the weakest policy arguments Ive ever seen: Arguing that the Fed should shy away from doing all it can to create jobs because youre afraid that at some point in the future Fed officials will be insufficiently hawkish because theyre afraid that people will make fun of them.
But being an inflation hawk means never having to say youre sorry.

Robert Reich: ".....where’s the Democrat’s campaign manifesto?"
.....wheres the Democrats campaign manifesto? Senate Democrats should counter with a budget that (1) raises taxes on the rich and closes notorious loopholes (such as carried interest for hedge-fund managers); (2) exempts the first $15,000 of income from Social Security taxes and makes up the difference by eliminating the cap on income subject to it; (3) ends corporate welfare to oil and gas, big pharma, big agriculture, military contractors, and Wall Street; and (4) uses the savings to invest in education and infrastructure, and a new WPA for the long-term unemployed. You agree?

THE GOP: What a failed, useless party!
Republicans can take heart on this sad "Obamacare enrollment good news day" because they've achieved something in their relentless war on health insurance: They've kept millions of children off of the health care coverage rolls.
The majority of children not covered by any kind of insurance are in red states, and in those states that refused to take Medicaid expansion. In those states, the Kaiser Family Foundation finds, 75 percent of the uninsured are children:

How much freedom did Obamacare cost us?

How much freedom did Obamacare cost us?
bykos
Serious question. We're going to see around seven million people get private insurance (as the Heritage Foundation intended) through the exchanges. Medicaid expansion will deliver health insurance to anywhere between 4.7 and 6.5 million more. And don't forget the three million or so young adults who are able to stay on their parents' insurance until they're 26.
So ... how much freedom did that cost us?
You see, conservatives keep talking about the "death of freedom" and the jackbooted Obamacare Nazi Alinsky thugs who will [fill in the blank and make it really horrible]. So now that the Affordable Care Act has been (mostly) implemented and millions of people now have insurance when they didn't before, or are paying less for better insurance than they had before, it's time for a proper accounting.
Anyone know how much freedom was lost? Was it, like, 13? More than that?

Bryan York: If ObamaCare Benefits You, You Don't Exist
If ObamaCare Benefits You, You Don't Exist

According to Byron York, if you are getting Medicaid benefits or you are 26 years or younger and getting coverage on your parents' health insurance plan, you simply do not exist. There are an estimated seven and a half million people in this country that fall into one of those two categories and now have access to health care that they would not have enjoyed if John McCain had won the 2008 election, but they don't count.
http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-obamacare-uninsured-national-20140331,0,5472960.story?page=1#axzz2xYDV8HQV
...The part where Democrats essentially blew up the health care markets, imposed the individual mandate, and caused premiums to rise and deductibles to skyrocket? That hasn't been such a success. If the Times number are correct, all of that -- placing new burdens of higher costs and narrower choices on millions of Americans, in addition to setting the stage for coming changes in employer-based coverage -- has resulted in two million of the previously uninsured gaining coverage.
Let me explain the logical error here, in case it isn't immediately obvious. Byron York says in the first paragraph that 9.5 million people now have health insurance that they would not otherwise have. In his the second paragraph he says that two million people now have health insurance that they would otherwise not have.
How did he subtract 7.5 million people? He refused to acknowledge that they actually exist.

Fox host tells Ted Cruz: Youre in a minority on Obamacare repeal, people arent behind that
By David Edwards
Tuesday, April 1, 2014 9:58 EDT
The hosts of Fox & Friends on Tuesday warned Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) that less and less people were backing his crusade to repeal President Barack Obamas health care reform law.
I think at this point it is abundantly clear this thing it isnt working, Cruz told the Fox News hosts the morning after the White House announced that it was on track to meet its goal of 7 million enrollees. You cant fiddle around the edges. I think it is the essence of pragmatism to recognize this thing isnt working, and lets start over, lets repeal every word of it.
You know, youre kind of in a minority when it comes to that, host Steve Doocy pointed out. You look at the polling, Senator, and a lot of Americans like parts of it, would like to see parts of it continue. So, to blow the whole thing up, I dont know if people are behind that.
