Michael Moore: "President Romney" - How to Prevent Those Two Words From Ever Being Spoken

But the voting on November 6th will not take place at Walmart or on any potato's couch. It can only happen by going to a polling place -- and, not to state the obvious, the side that gets the most people physically out to the polls that day, wins. We know the Republicans are spending tens of millions of dollars to make sure this very thing happens. They have built a colossal get-out-the-vote machine for election day, and the sheer force of their tsunami of hate stands ready to overwhelm us like nothing we've ever seen before. Those of us in the Midwest got a taste of it in 2008. Traditionally Democratic states -- all of which voted for Obama -- saw our state legislatures and governor seats hijacked by this well-oiled machine. We didn't know what hit us, but these new Republicans wasted no time in dismantling some of the very basic thing we hold dear. Wisconsin fought back -- but even that huge grassroots uprising was not enough to stop the governor bought and paid for by the Koch brothers. It was a wake up call, for sure -- but have we really woken up?

JOE SCARBOROUGH-Conventional warfare: Why Democrats won

By JOE SCARBOROUGH | 9/7/12 9:39 AM EDT

It’s fashionable to say that conventions don’t matter. And it’s true that it’s been a generation and a half since the last time there was genuine drama in real time (that was 1980 in Detroit, with its near-miss with the Reagan-Ford “dream ticket”).

They do matter, though. Maybe not in the way Detroit did, or Chicago in 1968 did, or Los Angeles in 1960 did. But impressions are created amid confetti and cable coverage that reach political civilians (another way of describing normal Americans) that, together with the autumn debates, tend to clarify — and even decide — presidential elections.

Which is why Republicans should be particularly glum this weekend. The further Democrats progressed into their convention this week in Charlotte, N.C., the more glaring the shortcomings of last week’s GOP convention became. By the time the last of the confetti fell on the DNC convention floor, it became frustratingly clear that the most compelling speaker in Tampa, Fla., was Clint Eastwood’s chair.

JOHN DEAN - The Republicans’ Shameless War on Voting

SEPTEMBER 7, 2012 JOHN DEAN
The Republicans’ Shameless War on Voting

There is absolutely no question that Republicans are trying to suppress non-whites from voting, throughout the Southern states, in an effort that has been accelerating since 2010. It is not difficult to catalogue this abusive Republican mission, which unfortunately has spread, in a few instances, to states above the Mason-Dixon Line as well.

Nor is there any doubt whatsoever about why Republicans are doing this, since the demographics of the states where it is happening suggest that it is becoming increasingly difficult for white descendants of the Confederacy, with their puppet conservative politicians, and for conservatives in general, to retain control of government.

Frankly, I find this voter suppression disgusting. Southern conservatives, who now control the GOP, have succeeded in destroying the party of Abraham Lincoln, with its once long and proud tradition of seeking to extend the voting franchise, not restrict it.

The Romney-Koch Handshake: Network TV Censors Revealing Moment

When Mitt Romney walked down the aisle toward the stage at the Republican National Convention, among the people whose hands he shook was the conservative billionaire and major political donor David Koch. But it was a moment missed by the tens of millions of viewers at home. While Democracy Now! was there on the floor and captured the handshake on video, the networks cut away just before the handshake to show footage of two enthusiastic young women supporters and then an overhead shot of the convention center. Then, the shot came back to Romney shaking hands further down the aisle as he ascended the stage. Groups in the network of David Koch, and his brother Charles, intend to spend nearly $400 million ahead of the 2012 election.

The RNC Deletes America, the DNC Deletes God: Guess What Got the Most Attention?

The RNC Deletes America, the DNC Deletes God: Guess What Got the Most Attention?
DEE EVANS FOR BUZZFLASH AT TRUTHOUT

..............

You barely heard a peep out of the media and political pundits when the “small government” Party rolled out their “all God, all guns, no sex” platform (abstinence education…really???) but let the Democrats leave the word God out of something and it’s hello at the cross!

I love my country but jeepers creepers people, no wonder we’re so screwed up! We care more about if the word God is seen in a document that basically means nothing than we do if seniors can get quality care or the poor can buy food or the sick can see a doctor or if some lunatic can buy 20,000 rounds of ammunition over the Internet and then decides to pay a visit to his local movie theater or Muslim temple.

This is what is wrong with so-called “American exceptionalism”, you actually start believing your own press clippings and you think that you have a right to do whatever you want as long as you wrap it up in an invisible cloak of God and country.

Wake up people! I was raised a Baptist in Texas and I’m as God-fearing as the next person, but I do not try to put my values above people’s actual lives…and that’s what’s happening here. For our media to jump all over the Democrats for this while literally letting the Republicans sail off into the sunset with a tablet of commandments that would make Ronald Reagan not only roll over in his grave but get up and do the electric slide, is unconscionable.

Judge To Woman Sexually Assaulted By Cop: ‘When You Blame Others, You Give Up Your Power To Change’

Lewis to Democrats: ‘We must march to the polls like never, ever before’

Arizona trial Judge Jacqueline Hatch, who was appointed to the bench by Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ), decided that Evans’ actions did not warrant jail time — sentencing him probation and 100 hours of community service. Evans also will not have to register as a sex offender. Yet, while Judge Hatch apparently did not view the disgraced former cop’s actions as particularly serious, she had some very harsh words for the woman he assaulted:

Bad things can happen in bars, Hatch told the victim, adding that other people might be more intoxicated than she was.

“If you wouldn’t have been there that night, none of this would have happened to you,” Hatch said.

Hatch told the victim and the defendant that no one would be happy with the sentence she gave, but that finding an appropriate sentence was her duty.

“I hope you look at what you’ve been through and try to take something positive out of it,” Hatch said to the victim in court. “You learned a lesson about friendship and you learned a lesson about vulnerability.”

Hatch said that the victim was not to blame in the case, but that all women must be vigilant against becoming victims.

“When you blame others, you give up your power to change,” Hatch said that her mother used to say.

Brothers and sisters, do you want to go back? Or do you want to keep America moving forward?

Lewis to Democrats: ‘We must march to the polls like never, ever before’

Brothers and sisters, do you want to go back? Or do you want to keep America moving forward? My dear friends, your vote is precious, almost sacred. It is the most powerful, nonviolent tool we have to create a more perfect union. Not too long ago, people stood in unmovable lines. They had to pass a so-called literacy test, pay a poll tax. On one occasion, a man was asked to count the number of bubbles in a bar of soap. On another occasion, one was asked to count the jelly beans in a jar-all to keep them from casting their ballots. Today it is unbelievable that there are Republican officials still trying to stop some people from voting. They are changing the rules, cutting polling hours and imposing requirements intended to suppress the vote. The Republican leader in the Pennsylvania House even bragged that his state’s new voter ID law is “gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state.” That’s not right. That’s not fair. That’s not just. And similar efforts have been made in Texas, Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia and South Carolina. I’ve seen this before. I’ve lived this before. Too many people struggled, suffered and died to make it possible for every American to exercise their right to vote.

Someone needs to assassinate Obama...like ASAP #DieYouPieceOfShit
September 7, 2012

President Barack Obama tonight spoke, in the most stark, pressing, and persuasive way I've ever heard from him, of The Choice we face as a nation in this election: between an America where we all come together and one in which we're on our own; between an America that believes in keeping our jobs here and one in which we send jobs to other countries; between an America that believes in the fundamental right for people to live free from fear of ill health or of insurmountable college loans and one in which we have to give up our rights just so that a few can be given even bigger tax breaks; between an America that affirms its commitment to truth and science and one in which we shun the facts of our ailing planet and our impact on it; between an America filled with daughters who advance just as far as sons and one in which that reality never gets realized; between an America in which young immigrant children who've arrived without a choice can pursue the full extent of choices we as citizens should all be able to and one in which those same young boys and girls spend their lives reigned in by unfulfilled potential vitiated by the threat of deportation; between an America that is filled with hope for a brighter future and one in which we live within the shadows of the past.

......................

Because when a 16 year-old white girl takes to Twitter to openly call for the assassination of our President, you have got to wonder where we, as a society, have gone wrong; why we, as a society, have failed; how we, as a society, have allowed hatred to incubate within such a young, malleable mind. It is a choice that, as President Obama paralleled tonight in his invocation of our rights and responsibilities as a nation and as a society, we all shoulder the burden of making, because the consequences of that choice will shape a future of our own making.
