(3M CEO) said 500,000 (N95 masks) are being transported from its South Dakota plant to New York....

In a statement, 3M Chairman and CEO Mike Roman said his company has a “unique and critical responsibility in pandemic preparedness and response.”

Roman said 500,000 respirators are being transported from its South Dakota plant to New York and Seattle, which are two areas where COVID-19 has spread the fastest. He said the respirators will arrive by Monday.

respirators (as defined in the story) = N95 masks ("N95 respirators" )

All non-emergency dental appointments cancelled in Florida

My dentist just cancelled my appointment.

I think this is the relevant order: https://www.flgov.com/wp-content/uploads/orders/2020/EO_20-72.pdf

My dentist defined emergency this way:

Emergency procedures may include: recement broken or lost temporaries, seat crowns where temporary is causing gum irritation, broken tooth with pain, swelling and abscess, trauma, jaw pain, etc.

7-month-old South Carolina baby tests positive for COVID-19

CAMDEN, S.C. (CNN/WACH) — A 7-month-old baby in South Carolina appears to be one of the youngest Americans to test positive for the coronavirus.

Baby Emmett Doster tested positive for the new virus Tuesday after waking up from a nap with a fever.

“He woke up from a nap running a fever so we were going to play it out and see, but my mom tested positive for the virus as well,” Courtney Doster, the baby’s mother, said.

The 104-degree fever landed Emmett at the urgent care in Elgin.

Tuesday’s positive test results have the entire family of five on lockdown.

Very sad.

Hackel also announced Macomb County was home to 121 confirmed cases, including a 1-month-old baby and a 100-year-old.

Are Central Florida hospitals ready for coronavirus surge? Special Report

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/coronavirus/os-ne-health-coronavirus-orlando-hospital-preparedness-20200321-prig65gjxfcednyzylrlswdjfm-story.html

CEOs of the major health systems in Orlando say they have been preparing for a potential surge of coronavirus patients. But despite their best efforts, they could still be overwhelmed.

“Our teams are mapping out, stack by stack, what level of volume and what level of support we might need. Space is one issue. Equipment is the next issue. And then critical care providers is the third issue, and our plans are dealing with all of them,” said Daryl Tol, president and CEO of AdventHealth.

In the best-case scenario, if Central Floridians practice social distancing, researchers predict that about 20% of the population could be infected over 18 months. That is about 600,000 Central Floridians, according to projections by Harvard Global Health Institute.

About 130,000 of those who contract the disease will need hospitalization and 29,000 of that segment will need intensive care. In this scenario, Central Florida hospitals would need about 30% more hospital beds and 50% more ICU beds than they currently have.

Need debunking please...original cause of the coronavirus

Note: Before someone excoriates me, I do NOT believe the conspiracy-laden BS out there.

My understanding is the virus originated from a market in Wuhan, possibly a bat. The virus then spread in the local population. Nothing pointing to some nefarious government conspiracy to infect anyone.

This friend of mine pointed me to two articles to buttress her theory (that the USA government gave the virus to China), which I argued strongly against. Here's the articles:

and

https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/lab-made-coronavirus-triggers-debate-34502

I pointed her to this part in the nature.com article:

Editors’ note, March 2020: We are aware that this story is being used as the basis for unverified theories that the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19 was engineered. There is no evidence that this is true; scientists believe that an animal is the most likely source of the coronavirus.

This virus is the worst crisis we've ever had in my lifetime....

I turn 62 in August. Yes, Vietnam was really bad, as well as Watergate, Iran Contra, the 2008 Great Recession, the Iraq War, and our Dictator-wannabe since 2017. I am sure you could add to my list. This is just something straightforward yet so unknown and extremely hard to control.

My brother and I are both in a higher risk category (over 60) but we're both in good health. My son is only 24 and in good health. I have no older relatives or friends (at the moment). So, in summary, I am not really concerned about myself, my son or my brother.

My concern is more for the country: the impending recession (and perhaps depression), the difficulty in doing social distancing, survival difficulties unless Congress really steps up, and the (probably) thousands of deaths that are coming, with the overwhelming of our hospitals. Thanks President Narcissistic Psychopath Asshole.

I really hope the future is not as bleak as I envision it. I hope I am wrong.

Thank you for reading. I just needed to vent. I apologize if this was too political and depressing. As a group host, I do my level best to keep politics out of this group, but damn, our national crisis IS affecting my mental health.

I wish you all the very best.

Easy way to find DeSantis' executive orders

https://www.flgov.com/2020-executive-orders/

That link has the executive orders he issues. It will be interesting to see if he issues a "stay at home" order for
the entire state. My thinking is, if he won't even do it for beaches, he won't do it for the rest of the state, but
I could easily be wrong.

(Coronavirus) Curfew starts for Orange County tonight

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/coronavirus/os-ne-coronavirus-orange-county-march20-20200320-fk5wdnbyurfapmj3c7lglaunvy-story.html

Orange County will begin enforcing a curfew on Friday night in response to calls from public health officials who are trying to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The curfew will run from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said at a briefing on Friday afternoon.

First responders such as paramedics and police are exempt from the curfew along with people providing other essential services. There is also an exemption for people traveling to and from work, Sheriff John Mina said.

“We aren’t looking to arrest people...but we are looking to save lives,” Mina said.
