#Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump’ Review: A Documentary Dissects the President’s Malignant Narcissism

https://variety.com/2020/film/reviews/unfit-the-psychology-of-donald-trump-review-1234744187/

The issue of whether Donald Trump is mentally unfit to be president — or, to put it more bluntly, whether he suffers from a serious mental disorder — isn’t one to be taken lightly, yet it sometimes seems destined to be tinged with comedy. In 2017, when speculation about Trump’s mental state was first reaching full boil, Allen Frances, the psychiatrist who wrote the criteria that defines narcissistic personality disorder, published a righteous letter in The New York Times insisting that Trump was not an example of that syndrome. I looked up the criteria on several prominent medical websites, and guess what? Trump meets every one of the criteria. (Don’t take my word for it; look it up yourself. That letter to the editor read like Freud coming back from the dead to insist that the Woody Allen character from the ’70s was not, in fact, neurotic.)

Trump is the kind of screw-loose blowhard who has inspired all too many of us to play armchair psychiatrist. We’ve been putting him on the couch for the entire run of his presidency. So most, if not all, of the insights presented by the upcoming documentary “#Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump” (it drops on Aug. 28) will be familiar to any student of TISDS (Trump Is Seriously Deranged Syndrome).

Trump, as Dan Partland’s film explains, is a malignant narcissist. (Has there ever been a DSM diagnosis that sounded like more of a direct insult?) The film details the four qualities in Trump that define that syndrome: his paranoia (the feeling that any journalist who asks him a challenging question, or any staff member who doesn’t kiss his ring, is out to get him); his anti-social personality disorder (the constant lying, the lack of remorse about even the most destructive things he does); the sadism (the thousands of vicious attacks and insults in his tweets); and…well, the narcissism (do I need to detail that?).

In addition, the film analyzes his propensity to create and live in his own reality. It explores his absence of empathy — which, of course, is the defining quality of the sociopath. (They’re not insane; they just don’t care about you — or anyone else.) And it compares him to Hitler and Mussolini, and to the authoritarian leaders of our own time.

Sean Hannity called Trump 'bats--t crazy' behind his back, according to book by CNN's Brian Stelter

https://www.nydailynews.com/snyde/ny-sean-hannity-brian-stelter-cnn-crazy-20200821-xzzv6fftj5e67jokcnmpmeikua-story.html

“Trump is a bats--t crazy person,” Fox News host Sean Hannity, one of the president’s biggest supporters, has reportedly said behind closed doors. But on air, it’s a different story.

A new book due out Tuesday by CNN’s Brian Stelter paints a portrait of Fox News’ co-dependent relationship with President Trump as conflicting, exhausting and embarrassing for many at the right-wing media outlet, where one anchor reportedly confessed, “We just surrendered.”

According to at excerpt published Thursday in Vanity Fair from Stelter’s tome, “Hoax: Donald Trump, Fox News, and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth,” Hannity gets the best and the worst of that alleged partnership, allegedly playing the part of “a wife in a sexless marriage,” Stelter writes.

While detailing the life of riches that complicity has brought Hannity’s way, some of the more than 300 past and present Fox staffers Stelter interviewed describe the networks’ alpha as a generous and likable guy who tells people off the record that “Trump is a bats--t crazy person.”

US Postal Service is using an outside PR firm to fight election fears as Trump fumes over upcoming hearings

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/19/politics/dejoy-postal-service-trump-vote-by-mail-senate-hearing/index.html

It's been a bad few weeks for Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, and it might just get worse before it gets better as efforts to convince Americans mail-in voting is safe may put him in direct conflict with President Donald Trump.

Guided by a public relations firm, DeJoy and the US Postal Service are now scrambling to clean up after weeks of criticism and allegations that the Trump administration was using the agency to meddle in November's election. DeJoy's efforts at two congressional hearings and other public appearances will be critical.

After an emergency closed-door meeting Saturday between DeJoy and the Postal Service Board of Governors, a source familiar tells CNN the agency engaged PR firm Weber Shandwick to help manage crisis messaging and combat some of the anti-Postal Service and mail-in voting rhetoric coming from the White House.

Shortly afterwards, the Postal Service put out a statement from DeJoy suspending any changes until after the election, but did not say whether the changes already made, like the removal of high-volume letter sorters, would be reversed.
