video at link. This is not recent news of course, but what is cool, per the video, is that people are donating to Mr. Sadler's college fund to pay off his student loans!

Pentagon makes 'obvious' choice, opens Ranger School to women permanently

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Military/2015/0902/Pentagon-makes-obvious-choice-opens-Ranger-School-to-women-permanently

WASHINGTON — The Army announced Wednesday that it is opening its storied Ranger School to all soldiers, regardless of gender.

This decision comes on the heels of the news last month that two women – Capts. Kristen Griest and Shaye Haver – had passed the school and would each earn a Ranger tab.

It was a first for female solders.

But the Ranger School class that produced the first female graduates was technically an Army experiment, launched earlier this year.

Kentucky Clerk Asks Judge, Again, for a Way Out of Gay-Marriage Order

SEP 2 2015, 3:20 PM ET

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/kentucky-clerk-asks-judge-way-out-gay-marriage-order-n420446

A Kentucky court clerk is once again asking a federal judge for an order freeing her from the obligation of issuing marriage licenses, a move that would allow her to remain in office while still refusing to acknowledge same-sex unions.

Kim Davis ignited a fierce debate in her office in Rowan County, Kentucky this week when she defied orders to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court declaring the constitutionality of same-sex marriages. Davis, a born-again Apostolic Christian, said issuing the licenses to gay couples would violate "God's definition of marriage" and would infringe on her religious freedom.

The unorthodox gambit appears to have little chance of succeeding.

Her request was filed Wednesday with the same judge that issued an earlier order directing her to grant marriage licenses in performance of her official duties while her freedom-of-religion claims move through the courts. Davis is essentially asking the judge for a way out of that order.

Georgia public school investigates a mass baptism on its football field

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2015/09/02/a-georgia-public-school-is-investigating-a-mass-baptism-on-its-football-field/

A Georgia public school is investigating a mass baptism on its football field that was posted on YouTube but later taken down. In a state where football is practically another religion, the video raises questions about the role of faith in public schools.

The video was posted by First Baptist Villa Rica, according to local news channel WXIA-TV, shot before football practice at Villa Rica High School showing 18 players getting baptized.

“We had the privilege of baptizing a bunch of football players and a coach on the field of Villa Rica High School! We did this right before practice! Take a look and see how God is STILL in our schools!” the caption with the video said. The video had been taken down by Tuesday evening.

The school is looking into what happened, Villa Rica’s Assistant Superintendent of Administrative and Support Services Terry Jones said in a statement.

Totally wrong, imho.

sincere question about liquid cooling of PC's

I would never attempt to install a liquid cooling system in my PC. I know I would ***** it up.

Do liquid cooling systems ever leak ? I know, obviously, if they are poorly installed they will, but do expertly installed ones ever leak ? Is there a time limit on when you should replace some components of it ?

I've been deathly scared of trying it. Thanks in advance.

Obama pulls a total dad move while taking a selfie with Bear Grylls

http://entertainthis.usatoday.com/2015/09/02/barack-obama-bear-grylls-dad-selfie/

Barack Obama, Dad-In-Chief.

Since it’s 2015, Obama obviously had to take a selfie with Bear Grylls while filming their episode of Running Wild in Alaska. (Yes, you read that correctly—Obama is Running Wild.)

And because Obama is the ultimate dad, he pulled the ultimate “olds taking selfies” move and left his finger in the frame.

?w=1000

Then topped it off with the corniest Insta caption of all time:

Glad this was the only Bear I met in the park. -bo

Burning Man’s Fashion Is Wild, but There Are Rules

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/01/us/at-burning-man-a-counterculture-festival-the-fashion-police-walk-the-beat.html

SAN FRANCISCO — Glitter is a no-no. Sequins are frowned upon. Feathers were verboten, though they have still infiltrated in trims and turbans, to gnashing controversy.

The rules for costumes at the Burning Man festival, which began on Sunday in the scorching desert of northern Nevada, are complex. Governed by a quasi-spiritual principle to leave no trace behind, festival organizers are committed to cleaning up every speck of party detritus from the sand — “Matter Out of Place” or Moop, to use the festival’s term.

Shedding feather boas and stray sequins are a scourge of the playa, or desert basin, where the revelers — known as Burners — strut and frolic for eight days, while anticipation builds for the giant man-shaped bonfire that is the raison d’être of Burning Man.

Such restrictions have not stopped Burning Man from being one of the biggest modern costume shows for adults outside Halloween. Unicorn masks, head-to-toe bird-of-prey outfits, Mylar spacesuits, glow-in-the-dark disco gear — as the scene has grown in psychedelic outrageousness, so has the need among Burners for ever more inventive costumes.

Popular Belkin Wi-Fi routers plagued by unpatched security flaws

http://www.computerworld.com/article/2978183/security/popular-belkin-wi-fi-routers-plagued-by-unpatched-security-flaws.html

If your Wi-Fi network is using the popular Belkin N600 DB router, be warned: It may have several vulnerabilities that could allow hackers to take it over.

Remote unauthenticated attackers could exploit the vulnerabilities to spoof DNS (Domain Name System) responses and direct users to rogue websites or trick users' browsers to change the device configuration, the CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) at Carnegie Mellon University said Monday in an advisory.

Furthermore, attackers with access to the local area network could bypass an affected router's authentication and take complete control over it, CERT/CC said.

Exploiting some of the vulnerabilities requires attackers to be in a man-in-the-middle position between the router and its DNS servers or Belkin's update servers. However, other flaws can be exploited by tricking users on the local network to visit specially crafted Web pages or by infecting their computers with malware.

*end of excerpt*

My understanding is, many other consumer routers have vulnerabilities. This is one of the reasons I use DD-WRT for my router firmware. There are others.

JEWISH GROUP: As a non-Jewish person...

I feel the misters at Auschwitz were a horrible idea. I totally get it.

There must be a sensitive way for tourists to get heat relief, but misters are just wrong wrong wrong.
