The Atlantic: Trump Secretly Mocks His Christian Supporters

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/09/trump-secretly-mocks-his-christian-supporters/616522/

One day in 2015, Donald Trump beckoned Michael Cohen, his longtime confidant and personal attorney, into his office. Trump was brandishing a printout of an article about an Atlanta-based megachurch pastor trying to raise $60 million from his flock to buy a private jet. Trump knew the preacher personally—Creflo Dollar had been among a group of evangelical figures who visited him in 2011 while he was first exploring a presidential bid. During the meeting, Trump had reverently bowed his head in prayer while the pastors laid hands on him. Now he was gleefully reciting the impious details of Dollar’s quest for a Gulfstream G650.

Trump seemed delighted by the “scam,” Cohen recalled to me, and eager to highlight that the pastor was “full of shit.”

“They’re all hustlers,” Trump said.

But in private, many of Trump’s comments about religion are marked by cynicism and contempt, according to people who have worked for him. Former aides told me they’ve heard Trump ridicule conservative religious leaders, dismiss various faith groups with cartoonish stereotypes, and deride certain rites and doctrines held sacred by many of the Americans who constitute his base.

ONE MORE POTENTIAL NAIL IN TRUMP'S ELECTORAL COFFIN !

I am begging my fellow Floridians, please do NOT trust the mail with your ballot...

It would not shock me if thousands of ballots either 1- never turn up or 2- get to the offices late and thereby do not count.

Please please please....vote in person if at all possible (health condition most important of course) or physically take your mail-in ballot to the county office.

If you do not know where your county elections office is, I will gladly help you find it.

Let's win this thing for Vice President Biden !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When coffee makers are demanding a ransom, you know IoT is screwed

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2020/09/how-a-hacker-turned-a-250-coffee-maker-into-ransom-machine/

Two years ago, Smarter released the iKettle version 3 and the Coffee Maker version 2, said Ken Munro, a researcher who worked for Pen Test Partners at the time. The updated products used a new chipset that fixed the problems. He said that Smarter never issued a CVE vulnerability designation, and it didn't publicly warn customers not to use the old one. Data from the Wigle network search engine shows the older coffee makers are still in use.

As a thought experiment, Martin Hron, a researcher at security company Avast, reverse engineered one of the older coffee makers to see what kinds of hacks he could do with it. After just a week of effort, the unqualified answer was: quite a lot. Specifically, he could trigger the coffee maker to turn on the burner, dispense water, spin the bean grinder, and display a ransom message, all while beeping repeatedly. Oh, and by the way, the only way to stop the chaos was to unplug the power cord. Like this:

long article but interesting if you are into IoT (internet of things) stuff.

R2-D2 and C-3PO of Star Wars fame did not get along well off-screen

https://www.mindbounce.com/trivia/which-famous-silver-screen-duo-had-an-adversarial-off-screen-relationship/?answer=2

Known on-screen as the friendly and inseparable duo, the actors who portrayed R2-D2 and C-3PO shared none of the affection of their on-screen personalities. During a 2009 interview with Metro magazine, Kenny Baker, the actor inside the R2-D2 suit, had this to say about Anthony Daniels, the actor inside the C-3PO suit:

I thought it was just me he didn’t get on with but recently I’ve found out he doesn’t get on with anyone. He’s been such an awkward person over the years. If he just calmed down and socialized with everyone, we could make a fortune touring around making personal appearances. I’ve asked him four times now but, the last time, he looked down his nose at me like I was a piece of s**t. He said: ‘I don’t do many of these conventions – go away little man.’ He really degraded me and made me feel small – for want of a better expression. He’s rude to everyone though, including the fans.

Lest you think the feeling of scorn was one-sided and Mr. Baker simply misunderstood Daniels’ feeling on the matter, we’ll let Daniels’ words clear things up. In a 2011 interview with The Mirror he explained:

I never saw him. I mean, R2-D2 doesn’t even speak. He might as well be a bucket.

Whatever the history between the two might entail beyond their public comments, we’ll completely understand if you’d prefer to Jedi mind trick yourself into forgetting this trivia tidbit and continue loving the adorable on-screen duo as they were presented in the films.
