FloriDUH: Machete moves fail to impress women at bar

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/strange/floriduh-blog/sfl-flduh-machete-women-bar-20140225,0,3131729.story

an oldie but a goodie here...

Guess a machete isn't the best way to flaunt one's machismo.

A Davie man, identified as Jony Jesus Saravia, 26, who was given the boot out of a bar for allegedly harassing women customers, returned with a sharp, edgy new approach, reports the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Officers said Saravia returned, then jumped on the bar while waving a machete.

What did he tell the cops?

Todashev shooting death investigation to be released Tuesday

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-todashev-fbi-death-investigation-20140320,0,2838559.story

A report on the shooting death in Orlando of Ibragim Todashev by an FBI agent investigating the Boston Marathon bombing will be released Tuesday, according to Orange-Osceola State Attorney Jeff Ashton.

Todashev, 27, died May 22 in his Orlando condo after being questioned for several hours about his friendship with slain bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The FBI has released little information about the interview with Todashev but said he initiated a "violent confrontation" and was shot. A Boston-based FBI agent and two Massachusetts police investigators took part in the interview, records show.

During the interview, Todashev said Tsarnaev had been involved in a triple homicide in Massachusetts before the April 15, 2013 bombing that killed 3 and injured more than 250, according to documents filed in federal court in Boston.

Dog 'sold for $2 million' in China: report

http://en.tengrinews.kz/strange_news/Dog-sold-for-2-million-in-China-report-26816/

A Tibetan mastiff puppy has been sold in China for almost $2 million, a report said Wednesday, in what could be the most expensive dog sale ever, AFP reports.

A property developer paid 12 million yuan ($1.9 million) for the one-year-old golden-haired mastiff at a "luxury pet" fair Tuesday in the eastern province of Zhejiang, the Qianjiang Evening News reported.

"They have lion's blood and are top-of-the-range mastiff studs," the dog's breeder Zhang Gengyun was quoted as telling the paper, adding that another red-haired canine had sold for 6 million yuan.

Enormous and sometimes ferocious, with round manes lending them a passing resemblance to lions, Tibetan mastiffs have become a prized status symbol among China's wealthy, sending prices skyrocketing.

Florida woman performed fatal C-section on dog without anesthesia, closed wound with glue: officials

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/fla-woman-performed-c-section-dog-closed-glue-officials-article-1.1727279

A Florida woman is accused of performing a lethal C-section on a dog without anesthesia before using non-surgical glue to close the incision.

Candace Patricia Hauser, who authorities said did not have a license to practice veterinary care, was arrested in Tampa Saturday — a little more than a week after the Mastiff died from its senseless injuries.

Authorities say the trouble began after dog owner Brenda Hines of Winter Haven brought the pregnant Mastiff to Hauser for help after the dog went into labor on March 4.

"She takes it over to the woman and the woman starts to help this dog birth by manual means -- she actually reached into the dog and pulls 12 puppies out," said Ron Spiller with the Hillsborough County Animal Safety and Enforcement.

In Florida, medical marijuana will be legal, John Morgan says (w/video)

http://www.tampabay.com/news/humaninterest/john-morgan-jonathan-pontell-forecast-legalization-of-marijuana/2171006

Generation Jones, the youngest segment of baby boomers, is a very influential lot.

Born between 1954 and 1964, GenJonesers are taking the reins of government and becoming a powerful draw for advertisers.

In Florida, they are seen as a key demographic in the push to legalize medical marijuana when it's put to voters in November.

"Jonesers have smoked far more pot than any generation before or after us, which has resulted in more toleration and acceptance of that drug — and comfort with its legalization," said Jonathan Pontell, the social commentator credited with coining the term Generation Jones.

If anyone cares, I met John Morgan at a speech one time. Good guy. One of we "Jonesers".

Win tickets to (Tulsa OK) '80s Prom

http://www.tulsaworld.com/blogs/scene/offbeat/offbeat-win-tickets-to-s-prom/article_c3f889bc-b058-11e3-b485-0017a43b2370.html

On April 5, transport back to the '80s at the corner of First Street and Detroit Avenue. You won't even need a DeLorean. Though it probably wouldn't hurt.

Tulsa's annual '80s Prom is back. The best (?) in fashion, music and fun from days gone by is set for April 5 at the IDL Ballroom complex, which includes Electric Circus and Enso Bar. If you want to go, here's your chance.

Just go to facebook.com/tulsaworldscene or facebook.com/tulsaworld and like the page. Then, find the post announcing the ticket giveaway and share the post with your friends. Finally, comment on the post with your favorite song from the '80s. There are no wrong answers. Well...maybe a few.

This is the 12th year the '80s Prom has been held in Tulsa, other than those in the actual '80s. It's become one of the biggest dance parties of the year, selling out every year and bringing hundreds from across the state.

Must not give President Obama any credit !

Yes, the situation with Ukraine and Crimea IS a no-brainer. That's not my entire point in GD. I still think a Republican president would be handling this FAR worse than President Obama. Hence, my thread in GD.

Florida man sues cop who arrested him for videotaping officers arresting another man

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/03/19/florida-man-sues-cop-who-arrested-him-for-videotaping-officers-arresting-another-man/

A Florida man is suing the city of Orlando and an Orlando police officer in federal court for violating his First Amendment rights, as well false arrest and false imprisonment.

Alberto Troche said he was in downtown Orlando on the morning of December 7, 2013, when he “noticed someone yelling,” so he “went around and started recording.” A man was on the ground, calling for help, surrounded by police officers. According to the lawsuit, he “was concerned that [Orlando Police Department] officers were using excessive force to make the arrest.”

The arresting officer ordered Troche and several others to stop taping the arrest or he would be forced to confiscate their devices. When one woman failed to comply, the arresting officer instructed Officer Peter Delio “to take the cell phone and arrest the bystander if she did not comply.”

Officer Delio then took “the cell phone by force without requesting consent from the bystander to seize the cell phone.” He threatened her with arrest “if she did not allow the [Orlando Police Department] to take her phone and download content from it.”

Can we all give PBO a big HELL YES and/or THANK YOU for no war in Ukraine ?

I give him gigantic credit for that.

eta: He could be pandering to a base with "I'm thinking of all options on the table" kinda BS.

I give him credit for a big NO. YMMV.

If you think it's no Big Fucking Deal, we agree to disagree. No pandering to a warmongering base is huge to me. YMMV.

eta2: It's just nice that with PBO, there is absolutely no BS saber rattling or even discussion of it. Yes, on March 2, Kerry mentioned all options on table. I see that's been rescinded.

Things would have to get extremely bad in that part of the world for PBO to even consider war. That's what I'm really thankful for. The other idiots would be ramping up DoD at the first semi-sane opportunity.

eta3: Perfectionism versus recognition of positive efforts. I choose the latter approach with President Obama.

eta4: He also deserves credit for pursuing a sane diplomatic policy over the Crimea and Ukraine. That's really my point.
