How are things looking at your polling place?

We just voted in Alexandria at about 10 AM. Polls workers said that it has been a steady stream of people and that they had already surpassed 1000 voters!!

Chuck Todd is having a Q&A on Facebook, and it is brutal….

XXXX XXXXX: Will Dr. Scarborough be on the panel to explain ebola to us?

Chuck Todd I have two ACTUAL doctors this week.

Chuck; How can you explain the difference of being a Journalist and a shill for the Republican Party?
You don't investigate or even Mention (within a whole segment) GOP Voter Discrimination or the Sequester to Blocking everything Obama wants.
How can you explain this and your lack of reporting?

Chuck Todd Why didn't you ask me when I stopped beating my wife? Come on. Ask a serious question and I'll give you a serious answer. There's always more nuance to the facts that partisans, left and right, want to admit

Two part question Chuck. What is the most important issue in the KY Senate race for the voters? Since you've disqualified Ms. Grimes over not disclosing who she voted for I would assume that this would be the most important issue for voters to weigh when deciding who to vote for on November 4th and if that's the case do you realize how much of a$$ clown that makes you look like to the rest of America?

Chuck Todd I understand you have to be mad at someone, so why not a member of the press. That's why God invented social media.

This was my fave:

Do you think the results of the midterms will affect who's planning on running for president in 2016?
1 · Like · Reply · 32 mins

Chuck Todd Actually I do. All on the GOP side of things. Obviously, there's Scott Walker who if he loses, no longer is a viable 2016er. Then there's Jeb Bush. I've long assumed he is not running. BUT, if Republicans do NOT win the Senate, I think an intra-party bloodbath is going to take place. And under THAT scenario, I could picture Jeb deciding he could run with his stances that some conservatives hate (including Common Core and immigration) because the party will be in a MAJOR debate anyway. And Jeb would want to represent the more pragmatic wing of the GOP.

Chuck Todd But my hunch is that Jeb ends up not running... But the only chance he might is if the GOP is in a total intra-party spat.

And then it seems to have ended.

He's a hack, I know we all knew that, but this was a sorta epic fail on his part.

If Ms. Clinton is the nominee I will vote for her.

However… I really want to say this: I want a primary election.

I want competition. I want choice. I want exactly that come 2015. One caveat: I want ALL of that AFTER this midterm election cycle.

Right now, the midterms are more important to me right now than 2016. Local elections are important. Senate, House and Gubernatorial elections really matter.

Right now, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 is far more important to me than Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Ms. Clinton can wait a few more weeks. We need to not be concerned about her right now and get busy getting the vote out. I know I am.

The Secret Service lied again! Remember that fence jumper?

You know the one that made it to the portico un-armed until we found out he was armed with a knife? Well this is stunning to me.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/white-house-fence-jumper-made-it-far-deeper-into-building-than-previously-known/2014/09/29/02efd53e-47ea-11e4-a046-120a8a855cca_story.html

The man who jumped the White House fence this month and sprinted through the front door made it much farther into the building than previously known, overpowering one Secret Service officer and running through much of the main floor, according to three people familiar with the incident.

An alarm box near the front entrance of the White House designed to alert guards to an intruder had been muted at what officers believed was a request of the usher’s office, said a Secret Service official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The officer posted inside the front door appeared to be delayed in learning that the intruder, Omar Gonzalez, was about to burst through. Officers are trained that, upon learning of an intruder on the grounds, often through the alarm boxes posted around the property, they must immediately lock the front door.

After barreling past the guard immediately inside the door, Gonzalez, who was carrying a knife, dashed past the stairway leading a half-flight up to the first family’s living quarters. He then ran into the 80-foot-long East Room, an ornate space often used for receptions or presidential addresses.
What the hell is going on here? (seriously, read the entire article.)

ETA: Here is the kicker, and why I just do not believe the Secret service anon sources at this point:
Chaffetz said he plans to ask Pierson how an alarm meant to alert officers to intruders could be silenced or turned down. The congressman said two people inside the agency told him that boxes were silenced because the White House usher staff, whose office is near the front door, complained they were noisy. A Secret Service official told The Post that the usher’s office was concerned the boxes were frequently malfunctioning and unnecessarily sounding off.

I had a big scare and I have a small sad.

-- and when I say small sad , I mean this in the greater idea of things.

We had tickets to the Giants game tonite being played at Fed Ex field pretty sweet tix. (lower level, 30 yard line Giants side.) I have never seen my beloved big blue play live, not even when I was in NY. Hubby was working from home because we had friends the coincidentally we going to the game as well and we were going to tailgate together. They were bringing the meat, we would bring the grill and the growlers of home brew.

Out of the blue, This morning my husband got sick. At 11 am he said I am not feeling well (he was fine earlier in the day) I brought him tea and took his temp… 101.8. He was having chills so badly it looked seizure like. I put Ice on him to bring the fever down. Took it again about 20 minutes later and the fever was still rising. We went to the urgent care office (he's got a primary care doctor, but this was closer and was urgent) They took his temp again and now his fever was 102.7 plus, his heart beat was thru the roof (147 per minute). They got the fever to come down (tylenol and Ibuprofen) and his heart rate to slow down. Diagnosis: He has a viral Flu like thing. They did not call it the flu. He will be ok. He is resting here at home. Unless his fever shoots up again or his heart starts racing again he just needs to let this work itself through. If anything like this happens in the next 72 hours, we were instructed to go to the ER as they can take blood tests and get results far more quickly, makes sense. This is an amazing urgent care facility.

He wanted me to go to the game anyway, and I was like hell no. (It was a no brainer. The Giants are here every year, we can wait another year)

I'm just a little bummed about the game but very happy that Hubby is alright. In order to get him to stop feeling bad about this, we both decided to give the tickets away with one string attached: Pay it forward.

It makes my sad a lot less knowing that someone else is enjoying the game tonite.

Appeals court upholds decision overturning Virginia’s same-sex marriage ban!!!

From WaPo:
By a 2 to 1 vote, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit in Richmond said that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed under the Constitution regardless of sexual orientation.

“We recognize that same-sex marriage makes some people deeply uncomfortable,” said Circuit Judge Henry F. Floyd. “However, inertia and apprehension are not legitimate bases for denying same-sex couples due process and equal protection of the laws. Civil marriage is one of the cornerstones of our way of life.”

Hello Loungers!

I don't have much to say, so I just wanted to say hi!

So come January, who'll be the GOP leader?

I don't know if we can get the seat. I think we need to scramble and figure out who Jack Trammell is. (and get behind him)

Until then, if the GOP retains the house, who will take that role? They lost a pretty big senior member tonite. and when I say senior member…

… I'll stop..

Good bye to Cantor. Farewell.

Question about Those that are making statements about Elliot Rodger:

Things like, Was he gay; Was he an MRA, was he just a self entitled ass (or any version of the sort… There has been a lot of speculation on DU about this. That's understandable, as this is a discussion board)

I'm not quite sure how to phrase this, but it appears as tho a lot of people are coming to a thesis based on his 'manifesto', and assuming that everything he wrote was absolute truth. This guy created a work of his own truths, as I see it.

I have not had a chance to read or even seen any comments from the many people he grew up with, or his family. Why are we taking his manifesto as truth? How do we know that anything he wrote was true at this point?

I assume it's easy to believe that the result of that very disturbed writing is proof. (and I am actually reading it, it looks like he was making excuses for what he did, blame blame blame)

Has anyone of the many MANY people mention in that writing had a chance to comment on what happened? The guy killed people. HE killed a lot of people, why should we take his words as truth?

He was a selfish murderous POS, I base this on his actions. I am not willing to get into his motives based on his words and his words only. I would very much like to see what so many of the people who interacted with him have to say. He named a lot of people; people who might be able to verify or discredit anything he wrote or recorded.

He killed innocents, I am not sure that I willing to give his words or manifesto credence.
