PRESS RELEASE
NEW YORK – On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, the Holy Eparchial Synod convened via teleconference, in order to be informed and to discuss significant matters that affect the Archdiocese of America, and unanimously decided the following:
1. Following detailed presentations on the financial effects of the spread of coronavirus and taking into account the ongoing efforts to minimize expenses, the Hierarchs of the Holy Eparchial Synod will offer 20% of their wages for the next three months towards the financial support of the Holy Archdiocese.
2. At the request of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, the Synod approved the sacred service of Holy Supplication (Paraklesis) for the protection, health and salvation of the people from the dangerous pandemic, which was recently compiled with by His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Rhodes. Additionally, the Synod commissioned the V. Rev. Archimandrite Spyridon Kezios with the task to complete an English translation of the service. Consequently, it is decided that this sacred service will also be made available in a video format and posted on the internet for the spiritual benefit of the people.
3. It was decided to include the following two petitions in “The Litany of Peace” of the Divine Liturgy and the other sacred services:
“For our deliverance from all affliction, wrath, danger and distress, and from the peril of the coronavirus against us, let us pray to the Lord.”
“For our brethren, those who lead the fight against the coronavirus, the doctors, the medical workers and the scientists, let us pray to the Lord.”
4. It was decided that the National Clergy-Laity Congress be postponed for one year, and that it will be rescheduled to a date and place to be announced in the near future.

House Judiciary Committee says Barr has agreed to testify

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday sent Attorney General Bill Barr a letter confirming he will testify before the panel on March 31st.
Why it matters: The letter comes after President Trump acknowledged in a tweet that Barr had personally overruled career prosecutors to lower the sentencing recommendation for his associate Roger Stone. Democrats in Congress have demanded the intervention be investigated for political interference.
What they're saying: Democrats on the committee wrote that they plan to address a "pattern of conduct in legal matters relating to the President that raise significant concerns." These include:
The removal of former U.S. attorney for D.C. Jessie Liu, who oversaw the prosecutions of Trump associates Roger Stone, Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort.
The "intake process" Barr said he has established for Rudy Giuliani to send the Justice Department information he has gathered about the Bidens in Ukraine.
The decision to overrule prosecutors in the Stone case.

The GOA did not take out a $5.5 million dollar loan just because someone embezzled $66,000 over the course of six years. Officials are looking into someone else.
It is symbolic that on day the faithful are supposed to celebrate the arrival of our new Archbishop, we instead get sucker punched in the gut with the truth that has been suppressed by the GOA officials over the past two years. Yesterday, the faithful received confirmation to the rumors that were circulating for years, that thousands of dollars were misspent. It has taken two years to get answers and the faithful are slowly receiving them from official U.S. Government sources.
The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed that the faithful were taken advantage of by employees in the GOA. Former Finance Director, George Papadakos, pleaded guilty yesterday to charging $66,500 to the GOA's corporate credit card for personal expenses without any official authorization. According to the U.S. Government, "these personal expenditures included charges for home improvements, clothing, a gym membership, iTunes, and medical bills."

NEW YORK – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America announces to the faithful the election of His Eminence Metropolitan Elpidophoros of Bursa as the new Archbishop of America. The official announcement of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in translation follows below:

Today, Saturday May 11 2019, the Holy and Sacred Synod, continuing its work, proceeded to fill the vacated seat of the Archdiocese of America following the voluntary resignation of its shepherd, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios Geron of America.
Therefore, following the suggestion, permission and exhortation of His-All Holiness, the holy synodical members upon invocation of the Holy Spirit, duly casted their votes and unanimously elected as Archbishop of America His Eminence Metropolitan Elpidophoros of Bursa, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Halki and Professor of the Theological School of the Aristoteleian University of Thessaloniki.

Donald Trump has lashed out at a number of perceived enemies after the publication of the long-awaited Mueller report, which painted a damning portrait of the president's conduct since taking office.
