Thank you Adam Schiff thread

I was driving around in my F-150 "pick em up" Truck and listening to Chairmen Schiff's
opening statement and I was pleased about what a smart classy guy he is and how he
stated time after time that the evidence was and is there to remove Trump from office.

The moral weight of history is on Adam Schiff's side. Now the GOP Senators might vote to
let Trump off on his crimes but history and the American voters are going to be a ruthless
judge to their actions and to them personally @ the ballot box.

Daily Kos: McConnell readies nuclear option for shielding Senate trial from public view

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is taking extraordinary steps to keep what's sure to be a sticky impeachment trial for GOP senators out of the public eye. He's already roped off certain areas to pen up reporters so they can't wander the halls and ask the very questions GOP senators are loath to answer. Journalists will also pass through a newly added metal detector before taking their media seats in the chamber in case they try to "bug the chamber with surveillance equipment," reports the Washington Post. It's all under the guise of "security" that's supposedly intended to protect senators, but credentialed reporters have effectively been designated a security threat.

Naturally, no digital devices such as cell phones or computers or cameras will be allowed in the Senate chamber to record the historical spectacle in real-time. That's standard practice in both the upper and lower chambers, but the House suspended the rule during the impeachment proceedings so journalists could better capture the moment.

But McConnell and his caucus could also simply kill the only camera allowed in the chamber during some of the most important parts of the trial. As the New York Times writes, "Lawmakers could pull the C-Span plug and go into closed session at critical moments of debate over the conduct of the trial and the fate of the president."

It's a procedure that was sometimes employed during the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton, but the circumstances of that trial were quite different. While Senate Republicans controlled the chamber, they weren't in any position to abuse their power or further anger the public as Clinton's approval had already soared and the GOP was taking a political beating. In addition, Republicans didn’t gain anything by shielding Clinton from the negative publicity that would naturally arise from a trial they were constitutionally required to hold in the view of many legal scholars.

Trump to India .... It is not like you've got China on your border

"It's not like you've got China on your border," the authors quoted Trump as telling Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a meeting between the two leaders.

CNN tonight Alan Dershowitz has lost it .... BTW I am not a lawyer

He keeps saying that he needs to make the argument against the impeachment of
Trump in front of the Senate but isn't that horse already out of the barn? Trump has
been impeached and no argument is going to change that.

Morning Joe, "And Russia paid for all of this."

Bottom Line.

Dmytro Firtash was paying for all this Ukraine "rat fucking" of our democracy and he was
using Russian money which must have been approved of by Vlad Putin.

J is for genius ... Watch and rinse your dishes? D. Trump 1/14/20 Wisconsin

How about WASH and rinse your dishes?

Trump transitioned to hyping “new dishwashers that give you more water so you can actually watch and rinse your dishes without having to do it 10 times”

This from the man who last Sept. came out and said, "Poland is a country." He is clearly not well and
is getting worse rapidly as time goes by. "They" have to know he is not well.

My form email from Ohio's Rob Portman

The man took millions in Russian money through the NRA in 2016.

Dear Tom,

Thank you for taking the time to contact me to express your opinion about President Donald Trump. It's good to hear from you.

Ultimately, we all want our country to succeed. To bring about that success, I believe that I have a responsibility to be an independent voice for Ohio.

I have supported efforts by the Trump Administration to strengthen our military, reform our tax code, create more jobs, reduce unnecessary regulation, combat the growing drug addiction epidemic, secure our border, and modernize our trade ties with Canada and Mexico. I applauded President Trump's choices of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to serve as Supreme Court Justices, and I have supported the Administration’s efforts to defeat ISIS, denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and negotiate a stronger and more comprehensive agreement with Iran.

However, there are also times when I disagree with the President. For example, I voted against President Trump’s national emergency declaration regarding the humanitarian crisis at the southern border, which would have threatened the system of checks and balances and set a concerning precedent by allowing presidential national emergency powers to circumvent Congressional authority to allocate federal funding. I also disagreed with President Trump’s decision to quickly withdraw troops from northern Syria, which sent the wrong message to our allies and further destabilized the region.

Regarding impeachment, the Senate has the sole power to evaluate the case that has been presented by the House of Representatives. I will faithfully perform my duty and listen to all the facts of the case. However, based on what has been presented thus far, there is nothing that rises to the level of removing of a duly elected president from office.

Our country faces serious challenges, including an epidemic of drug addiction and our growing national security threats. To solve these problems, we need to come together to deliver results and make a real difference in the lives of Ohioans and all Americans. With more than 40 bills signed into law, I have a track record of successfully standing up for Ohio and I look forward to continuing to be an independent voice for you in the U.S. Senate.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact my office. For more information you can visit my website at www.portman.senate.gov. Please keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Rob Portman
U.S. Senator
