If you want student loan cancelled, here is the way to go about it.

I know that I will incur the wrath of about 90% of the people at DU, but I will say that I believe that people who make promises and sign contracts should keep those promises. I do not believe in stroke-of-the-pen elimination of ALL student debt.

That said, here are 11 ways of getting your student loan forgiven, cancelled or discharged.

Student Loan Forgiveness
In certain situations, you can have your federal student loans forgiven, canceled, or discharged. Learn more about the types of forgiveness and whether you qualify due to your job or other circumstances.

Types of Forgiveness, Cancellation, and Discharge

The summaries below offer a quick view of the types of forgiveness, cancellation, and discharge available for the different types of federal student loans.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness
If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
PSLF forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.

Teacher Loan Forgiveness
If you teach full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to $17,500 on your Direct Loan or FFEL Program loans.

Closed School Discharge
If your school closes while you’re enrolled or soon after you withdraw, you may be eligible for discharge of your federal student loan.

Perkins Loan Cancellation and Discharge
You may be eligible to have all or a portion of your Perkins Loan canceled (based on your employment or volunteer service) or discharged (under certain conditions). This includes Perkins Loan Teacher Cancellation.

Total and Permanent Disability Discharge
If you’re totally and permanently disabled, you may qualify for a discharge of your federal student loans and/or Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant service obligation.

Discharge Due to Death
Federal student loans will be discharged due to the death of the borrower or of the student on whose behalf a PLUS loan was taken out.

Discharge in Bankruptcy (in rare cases)
In some cases, you can have your federal student loan discharged after declaring bankruptcy. However, discharge in bankruptcy is not an automatic process.

Borrower Defense to Repayment
You may be eligible for discharge of your federal student loans based on borrower defense to repayment if you took out the loans to attend a school and the school did something or failed to do something related to your loan or to the educational services that the loan was intended to pay for. The specific requirements to qualify for a borrower defense to repayment discharge vary depending on when you received your loan.

False Certification Discharge
You might be eligible for a discharge of your federal student loan if your school falsely certified your eligibility to receive a loan.
If you withdrew from school and the school didn’t make a required return of loan funds to the loan servicer, you might be eligible for a discharge of the portion of your federal student loan(s) that the school failed to return.

Forgery Discharge
Forgery is the creation of a false written document or alteration of a genuine one, with the intent to defraud. Victims of identity theft are frequently also the victims of forgery.
If you believe you were the victim of forgery, you might be eligible for a discharge of federal student loan(s) fraudulently made in your name.

Eligibility for Parent Borrowers
As with loans made to students, a parent PLUS loan can be discharged if you die, if you (not the student on whose behalf you obtained the loan) become totally and permanently disabled, or if your loan is discharged in bankruptcy. Your parent PLUS loan may also be discharged if the child for whom you borrowed dies.

Phishing Alert: email "Varication"

This has been going on for about a year that I know of. Note the misspelling in the message title.

I just got two emails today, 11/30/2021, noting that I wouldn't be able to use my email any more. "Click here to respond."

Here is a quote that was identical in both of them:
... customers that are yet to update their account will no longer be able to log in via their email addresses due to..."

I deleted them immediately.

Just a heads up folks.

I'm puzzled about this oil policy proposal

Biden Shutting Down Line 5 Pipeline Could Send Gas Prices Surging.
...
Line 5 pipeline could be under threat due to the White House exploring the potential impact of closing it on fuel prices in the region, according to a recent Politico report, amid a drive to reduce the U.S.'s dependence on fossil fuels.

I don't understand why it is a good idea to ask OPEC to increase production to hold fuel prices down but it's a bad idea to protect oil supply line from Canada.

Please archive and immortalize the forum

Admin Skinner,
I would like to have the contents of the Primaries forum available in some read-only for at least a year.
There are writings that could be worthy of study and evaluation.
It could be interesting to see what predictions came true or failed.
Can that be done?

I really appreciated having the forum available during the primaries. Thanx.

Undecided because I don't know what to decide on...

Some months ago when Harris was still in the race I posed a question on
this forum something like
"Should my preference be the candidate who has the best policies? [Harris at that time] or
the candidate who has the best chance of winning the GE? [Biden at that time, maybe still]

So after Harris was eliminated as a preference option the same question was in my mind.

I just decided that I wouldn't change my preference to Biden unless he declared Harris as choice for VP or AG or some other worthy position.

I do have another "Policy Preference" but frankly she has a low chance of winning the GE.

I am going to stay undecided. Sorry

Do you think I should start a thread on
What are your preferences for Issues vs. trumpstompability? (C)

Why is this upcoming 12 candidate primary NOT going to be a disaster?

I was looking forward to the debates getting CUT in size. The cuts should have been made by the support numbers to a decreasing number of participants each time.

That would give the surviving candidates more time to get their points out with more substance. The yelling and overtime speaking would be cut down and we could see more substance.

I'll bet preparation for this next "debate" will consist of each participant memorizing zingers to counter each opponents.

All of the viable runners will be wounded and there will be scabs that will be scraped open in the GE debates.

This stinks on ice. I would sure love to be wrong.

Candidate Preference... hmmmm... What to declare?

I prefer one candidate base on views, proposals, and philosophy.
I prefer a different candidate based on likelihood to oust trump.

Which way to go? Maybe change my preference every morning based on my mood?

I'm can't decide.

Anybody else in this same fog?

What is your favorite quote for Debate #1?

If you hear a memorable line post it with candidate's name and approx time.

Lloyd Bentsen 1988> Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy. (referring to R-Dan Quayle)
