DONALD TRUMP CLAIMS DEMOCRATS WILL VOTE REPUBLICAN IN MIDTERMS BECAUSE OTHERWISE

THE U.S. WILL BECOME VENEZUELA

President Donald Trump claimed Monday that a great number of Democrats would vote for Republican candidates in next month’s midterm elections because the main base of the Democratic Party is now intent on turning the United States into a replica of Venezuela.

Republicans face a battle to hold onto both the House and the Senate in the November 6 elections, with the GOP facing a backlash to Trump’s election and subsequent policies and rhetoric. But Trump has repeatedly tried to downplay the threat of a so-called “blue wave” in November, instead suggesting on occasion that there would actually be a “red wave.”

“I think a lot of Democrats are going to vote Republican,” Trump said to reporters on the White House lawn late Monday morning. “I have many friends that are Democrats. The main base of the Democrats have shifted so far left that we’ll end up being Venezuela. This country will end up being Venezuela. I think a lot of Democrats are going to be voting Republican on November 6.”

There has been no data to indicate that Democrats plan to vote Republican in the midterms in any significant numbers. Repeated polling has shown Democrats with higher levels of motivation to go to the polls, although the gap has narrowed amid the heated battle to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Former Trump aide Hope Hicks joins Fox as head of PR

Hope Hicks, previously one of President Trump's closest aides, is becoming a key executive at Fox News Channel's parent company.

Monday's announcement inspired lots of quips about the revolving door between the Trump White House and the Murdoch media empire. Fox News co-president Bill Shine joined the White House communications team over the summer.

But this move is actually a big change for Hicks. As White House communications director, she assisted the president, set up interviews and channeled his views.

Interest Groups Compete for Trump's TV Attention

Lobbyists say they encourage clients to advertise on Fox News programs the president is known to watch

WASHINGTON—An ethanol group in a high-stakes battle with the oil industry devised its television advertising strategy with a single viewer in mind: President Trump.

Its 30-second commercial with an Iowa corn farmer arguing for a higher percentage of ethanol in gasoline has been in rotation on Fox News since July.

“We know he watches, so this is a good way for him to see it’s something the heartland wants,” said Leigh Claffey, spokeswoman for Growth Energy, which last week began running a new ad noting Mr. Trump’s commitment to the issue.

This is the mentality that we are up against on the right.

‘BETTER GET [YOUR] COAT HANGERS READY’: PRO-KAVANAUGH COUNCILMAN FROM WEST VIRGINIA DELETES FACEBOOK POST AFTER COMPLAINTS

A councilman in West Virginia has deleted a Facebook post in which he said “get you’re [sic] coathangers ready” after Kavanaugh’s confirmation by the Senate.

Eric Barber is a councilman for Parkersburg City and an anti-abortion activist. He posted the comment in response to the news that West Virginia’s Democratic Senator, Joe Manchin, was backing Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation, securing his path to the Supreme Court.

Barber wrote on a private group: “Better get you’re [sic] coat hangers ready, liberals.” He has since deleted it, though other users saved screenshots and shared them.

We need to stay angry about Kavanaugh

The Supreme Court’s legitimacy is in tatters. Conservative forces in the country, led by the Republican Party, have completed a judicial coup, decades in the making.

Republicans rushed through Brett M. Kavanaugh’s confirmation to avoid the possible consequences of an election. They aborted a full investigation because they feared what it might find. They made themselves complicit in a presidential attack on Christine Blasey Ford, a brave woman who asked only that her case against Kavanaugh be taken seriously.

After all these outrages, there will be calls for a renewal of civility, as if the problem is that people said nasty things about one other. But the answer to this power grab cannot be passive acceptance in the name of being polite. The causes and consequences of what just happened must be acknowledged frankly.

--------

There is also this: A generations-long conservative majority on the court has been cemented in place by a political minority. Kavanaugh was named by a president who won 46 percent of the popular vote and confirmed by senators representing 44 percent of the population. When you lack a majority, controlling the branch of government not subject to the voters is vital to working your will.

@maddow
"I hear a lot about about lack of corroboration. You know, you don't get corroboration if you don't talk to corroborating witnesses. That didn't happen here."

Senator Bob Menendez

@SenatorMenendez
Just read the FBI report on Kavanaugh - if that’s an investigation, it’s a bullshit investigation.

National Council of Churches calls for Kavanaugh's nomination to be withdrawn

The nation's largest coalition of Christian churches on Wednesday called for the withdrawal of Brett Kavanaugh's nomination for the Supreme Court.

The National Council of Churches, which has membership from more than 40 denominations including most major Protestant and Eastern Orthodox denominations in the U.S., wrote in a statement on their website that they believe Kavanaugh has "disqualified himself from this lifetime appointment and must step aside immediately."

The statement cited a number of reasons for the demand, including Kavanaugh's behavior during his recent testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on sexual assault allegations against him.

"Judge Kavanaugh exhibited extreme partisan bias and disrespect towards certain members of the committee and thereby demonstrated that he possesses neither the temperament nor the character essential for a member of the highest court in our nation," the statement read.
