Iran warns North Korea: Trump could cancel deal before getting home

LONDON (Reuters) - Iran warned North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday against trusting U.S. President Donald Trump, saying he could cancel their denuclearization agreement within hours.

Tehran cited its own experience in offering the advice to Kim a month after Washington withdrew from a similar deal with Iran.

Trump and Kim pledged at a meeting in Singapore on Tuesday to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula while Washington committed to provide security guarantees for its old enemy.

“We don’t know what type of person the North Korean leader is negotiating with. It is not clear that he would not cancel the agreement before returning home,” Iranian government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht was quoted as saying by IRNA new agency.

ETA: This didn't take long! (bolding mine).

Any final deal President Trump signs with North Korea should come to Congress for ratification as a treaty, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday, adding his powerful voice to the calls for Congress to weigh in.

Mr. McConnell left the window open for some other method of congressional approval, but said he preferred the treaty route, which would elevate the deal to binding law that couldn’t be wiped away by a future administration.

Senators also seemed to tamp down on Mr. Trump’s suggestion that he was canceling joint military exercises with South Korea.

Sen. Cory Gardner, Colorado Republican, said Vice President Mike Pence had suggested that the exercises won’t be halted.

Finally, someone is saying it.

Donald Trump Looks And Acts Mentally Ill, Says CNBC Correspondent John Harwood
'I’ll be honest, as a citizen, I’m concerned about the President’s state of mind,' he says.

Donald Trump looks and talks like a person who is mentally ill, says CNBC correspondent John Harwood, and others at the network are also questioning the president’s sanity, Mediaite is reporting.

Trump’s behavior at the G7 summit, during which he’s railed against “unfair” trade practices with America’s closest allies, suggested allowing Russia back into the fold, threatening retaliatory tariffs, and criticized presidents going back to the Eisenhower administration, has been described as “harsh” even by Fox News. But for Harwood and his CNBC colleagues, it’s more concerning than that.

Another big story that got drowned out by the Roseanne brouhaha on Tuesday was that Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens resigned. Greitens is a Rhodes Scholar, former Navy SEAL and humanitarian who was named by Fortune as one of the world’s 50 greatest leaders. https://buff.ly/2sqn7YW

I wonder why he didn't mention the rape, the blackmail, misuse of his charities funds, etc? I guess it just slipped his mind.

Why in the hell is the Clinton/Lewinsky affair big news today?

Did he screw up? Yes, he did. Should he have exercised better self control? Of course he should have.

It has been 20 years, he was impeached for lying about the affair and made a public apology at the time. Why do we need to go back and revisit that whole episode now and conclude that it wasn't enough? He's not running for office and he's not been accused of any recent sexual misconduct.

This is nothing more than a distraction to steer the conversation away from the Mueller investigation and Trump's authoritarian statements. The closer Mueller gets to Trump, the more smokescreens they are going to throw out there. They want to change the subject and, if possible, create dissent in the Democratic party. As we approach the 2018 election were going to see even more of this.

About that pardon. . . .

@RepAdamSchiff
President Nixon asked the Department of Justice if he could pardon himself. They said no, as no one may be the judge in their own case. He resigned three days later.

In case you want to follow the Nixon model, that would be Thursday. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1003616210922147841

U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley Was Denied Access to Detention Center for Immigrant Children

U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) visited a detention center for immigrant children near the Mexico border Sunday in an attempt to draw attention to the Trump administration policy of separating children from parents.

Parents, even those credibly seeking asylum, have been separated from their children as part of the White House policy.
-------
Merkley, accompanied by multiple video cameras and the American Civil Liberties Union, shot a Facebook live video as he attempted to gain access to the facility. (The video had been viewed more than 353,000 times within the first several hours.)

He was initially told that a manager would come speak to him when he telephoned into the facility from the front door. The police arrived first.

Trump Is Right: Someone Is Out to Get Him

President Donald Trump, “who has never been convinced that his aides have his best interests at heart, has felt increasingly aggrieved” in recent months. We have that word from two reporters for the New York Times, Maggie Haberman and Katie Rogers, and it fits with what we have seen from him in public.

The reporters explain Trump’s anger as a function of his “sense of paranoia.” But this is typical MSM nonsense. Trump is absolutely right that someone in his administration keeps undermining him.

<snip>

Somebody in the administration fired James Comey as FBI director and then couldn’t stick to a straight story about why he was fired, leading to the appointment of a special counsel to investigate it.

Trump has reason to be angry at whoever blew his chance at getting a deal to fund a wall at the southern border. First someone told the Democrats that they could get an amnesty for illegal immigrants who came here as minors without having to agree to any additional measures to enforce immigration laws. Then someone in the administration insisted that there would be conditions, maximalist ones.
