Arkansas Granny's JournalIf this is what conservatism has become, count me out
Im used to being vilified by the far left as a bloodthirsty neocon warmonger for the Original Sin of having supported the invasion of Iraq along with 72 percent of the American public. It has been a little more surprising to be simultaneously vilified by the far right as a dangerous left-winger.
David Horowitzs FrontPage magazine accused me of going full leftist for acknowledging that racism and sexism remain pervasive problems. Breitbart called me, with ironic quotation marks, the Washington Posts ostensibly new conservative columnist, because, among other sins, I support gun control and immigration. American Greatness wrote that I am a soulless, craven opportunist whose brain is broken, because I compared President Trumps indifference to the 2016 Russian election assault to a president ignoring 9/11. For the same offense, Jack Posobiec an Internet troll notorious for pushing the theory that Hillary Clinton was running a child-sex ring out of a Washington pizza parlor said I was sick and a Russian propagandist. In the Orwellian language of the far right, someone who wants to combat Russian aggression is a Russian propagandist, whereas someone who echoes Russian propaganda is putting America first.
<snip>
Naturally, just as drug addicts need bigger doses over time, these outrage artists must be ever more transgressive to get the attention they crave. Coulters book titles have gone from accusing Bill Clinton of High Crimes and Misdemeanors to accusing all liberals of Treason, of being Godless and even Demonic. Her latest assault on the publics intelligence was called In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!
If this is what mainstream conservatism has become and it is count me out.

Only 6.5% of gun owners belong to the NRA. Only 1.3% of Americans do. Well under half of Americans approve of the NRA. A majority of the NRA's members disagree with its positions. The NRA is a radical group run by gun manufacturersit runs U.S. gun policy via large-scale bribery.

The NRA couldn't care less about gun safety. The NRA is controlled by gun manufacturers whose only interest is gun sales.
Follow the money.

CPAC allows conservatives to show their real colors.
Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) communication director Ian Walters sparked controversy with a racially charged insult hurled at former RNC chair Michael Steele on Friday night.
We elected Mike Steele as chairman because he was a black guy, that was the wrong thing to do, Walters told hundreds of conservatives during the conferences Ronald Reagan dinner as guests at tables gasped in shock.
Michael Steele was near the back of the room, and addressed Walters remarks.
I wanted to talk to [CPAC chair] Matt Schlapp first, but I think its painfully stupid what he said, Steele told Observer. If he feels that way Id like him to come say that to my face. And then Id like him to look at my record and see what I did. I cant believe an official of CPAC would go onstage in front of an audience and say something like that. Ive been a strong supporter of CPAC for many years and I thought they raised them better than that here.

My jaw dropped just reading this.
The NRA is using Trumps playbook to attack the news media
One of the more outrageous assertions in a week overrun with them was Dana Loeschs outright lie that journalists relish massacres of children.
Many in legacy media love mass shootings, the National Rifle Associations fanatical spokeswoman charged. Crying white mothers are ratings gold.
Wayne LaPierre, the groups chief executive, joined right in, smearing journalists and gun-control advocates alike.
They dont care about our schoolchildren, he told a fired-up crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hill, Md. They want to make all of us less free.

I hate to get my hopes up only to be disappointed again, but it really seems that change is in the air. I have a feeling that with Trump as their leader, Republicans and conservatives have overplayed their hand.
Australian PM declines to offer Trump any advice on gun control
Australia has some of the world's toughest gun control laws, introduced after its worst mass murder, when a gunman killed 35 people at Port Arthur in the island state of Tasmania in 1996.
-----------
"It's a completely different context historically, legally and so forth," Turnbull told a news conference following talks in the White House, adding that he was satisfied with Australia's gun control.
"We certainly don't presume to provide policy or political advice on that matter here," Turnbull said, according to a transcript of the news conference released by the prime minister's office.

Stoneman Douglas student shooting survivor Sam Zeif was asked if he felt like he was heard at the White House. He answered, I know I was heard because I saw it on Trumps little card. https://www.politicususa.com/2018/02/22/parkland-survivor-rips-trump-using-notecard-show-empathy.html #parkland

Cabbage Roll Soup. Yum!
It's a cold, rainy day, so I made a pot of soup and it hit the spot. I found this recipe for Cabbage Roll Soup on Pinterest and thought it sounded good. I was right. Luckily, I have a full kitchen at work and the boss has no problem with me using it when I have some slack time.

I tweaked it a little bit, although I think it would be great just as it's written, but I rarely fix anything just as it's written. For one thing, I added more beef broth because I wanted it to be a little "soupier". I altered some of the seasonings, as well, just to my taste. I'm putting some up in the freezer and sharing some with my boss. I hope the rice doesn't turn to mush, but if it does it won't hurt the taste.
Cops: Elementary kids find loaded gun teacher left in Pa. school bathroom
Beth Jean Dixon, 63, put her holstered pistol on a toilet tank when she used the unisex, one-toilet bathroom Aug. 25 at Cumberland Christian School, in Chambersburg, police said. They said she forgot about it and left.
Four children, ages 6 to 8, used the bathroom while the gun was on the toilet. One child told his parent, who told a teacher.
