Brett McGurk, top U.S. envoy in ISIS fight, resigns

Brett McGurk, special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, had been planning to exit his post in February 2019. But sources tell CBS News that he informed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that he will accelerate his departure due to a strong disagreement with President Trump's snap decision to withdraw 2,000 U.S. troops from Syria, effectively abandoning U.S. allies in the region.

McGurk submitted his resignation on Friday, just one day after Defense Secretary James Mattis quit his post citing fundamental disagreements with the commander-in-chief -- including one over the importance of honoring U.S. alliances.

How many more are going to leave and where will he find someone willing to fill those vacancies?

Toasted sugar. Has anyone tried this? I've never heard of it before.

Toasting sugar in a low oven allows for a range of caramelization without ever sacrificing its crystalline structure. The result is a sort of "granulated caramel" that can be used in any recipe as a one-to-one substitution for plain sugar. A mere hour of toasting will dramatically tame the sugar's sweetness, while extended periods of time will develop a more intense caramel flavor. So play around and find out what style works best for you.

Trump's 2020 campaign has set up a hotline, asking people to call in and thank Trump for being the greatest president in history. The number is 1-800-684-3043, if you want to call and tell him EXACTLY how grateful you are!

South Carolina GOP open to canceling state's 2020 primary to protect Trump from challenge

The Republican Party in South Carolina is weighing whether to cancel its presidential nominating contest in 2020 in an effort to protect President Trump from potential challengers.

Drew McKissick, the chairman of the South Carolina GOP, told the Washington Examiner that the party would do "what's in the president's best interest."

“We have complete autonomy and flexibility in either direction,” McKissick said. “Considering the fact that the entire party supports the president, we’ll end up doing what’s in the president’s best interest.”

He added that he doesn't think Trump will face a challenger in the primary and said there have been no official discussions about canceling the primary.

I wonder if they would actually go this far to protect a criminal.

A little perspective. "The 2016 election . . . an information world war."

LOL! Let Trump's supporters pay for his wall.

A Fox & Friends segment on Monday suggested that each Trump voter should give $80 to fund the president’s border wall even though he has promised Mexico would pay for it.

Just hours before President Donald Trump is set to shut down the government if he does not get border wall funding, New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin told Fox News that it was time for the president’s supporters to chip in.

“Is there a private way to do this?” Fox News host Brian Kilmeade asked.

“There is,” Goodwin insisted. “You can create a GoFundMe operation. Others suggest other ways, an existing effort called FundTheWall.com run by a sheriffs association that’s raised some money.”

Yes, there was 'collusion.' Now what should we do about it?

As we continue putting together the pieces of the 2016 Trump campaign’s cooperation with the Russian government, a pair of new reports produced for the Senate Intelligence Committee is making clear just how intense the Russian government’s effort on Donald Trump’s behalf was. In fact, it’s long past time when we stop talking about Russian “meddling” or even a Russian “attack” on our election, not because those characterizations are inaccurate but because they obscure the broader truth.

So let’s stop beating around the bush. The Russian government tried to get Trump elected, and Trump, his campaign, his close associates and even members of his family tried to help them. For all practical purposes, Russia was part of the Trump campaign. That is no longer in doubt. All we’re doing now is filling in the details.

But those details are appalling. Let’s begin with the first report, created by Oxford University’s Computational Propaganda Project and Graphika, a network analysis firm, and obtained by The Post, examining efforts by the Russian Internet Research Agency (IRA) to use social media in the service of Trump’s campaign:

This is a very good discussion of some of Trump's most recent lies and mis-statements.

AP fact check: Trump’s distorted reality in expanding Russia probe

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump keeps changing his story in the swirling investigations into Russia election interference and hush money payments to women who say they had affairs with him.

He insists that payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal during the 2016 campaign were “private transactions” and that any crime committed would be the fault of his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen , not him. That’s a change from what the president said before. Trump previously had denied knowledge of payments and dismissed any hint of a crime.

In the special counsel’s probe into contacts between Russia and the Trump campaign, Trump tried to cast doubt on whether his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn , had lied to the FBI. Flynn in fact pleaded guilty to doing just that.

Over the past week, Trump also made a flurry of false or unsupported statements about immigration. He said, with no evidence, that migrants are plagued with disease. He asserted that Mexico has in effect agreed to pay for his border wall, even as he threatens a partial government shutdown if Congress doesn’t approve billions of dollars to build it. He twisted federal statistics to claim the recent arrest of 10 terrorists who don’t exist.
