Coincidence with a leftist populist perhaps winning in Mexico? I think Trump realizes he would have no allies in North America and that would be hard to run on in the midterms.
"SNIP......
President Donald J. Trump sent the following message to Her Excellency The Right Honourable Julie Payette, congratulating Canada on the celebration of its National Day:
My sincerest congratulations go out to all Canadians as you celebrate your National Day on July 1.
As neighbors and allies, the United States and Canada stand firmly together against threats to our shared democratic values and our freedoms and way of life. Your partnership on the global stage, and your condemnation of autocratic regimes, send a strong signal in support of human rights, prosperity, and security around the world. We treasure our close bonds.
I wish you all well on your special day of celebration.

Do you have a dehumidifier? Turn it on upstairs. Dry air will help cool things
down. I have a dehumidifier in my basement apartment and it has never been cooler here in the summer. Plus I never open the windows on hot or humid days. I've hardly needed a fan this spring/summer.
By drastically reducing the number of illegals, refugees available
to work is Trump microtargeting California and NY City and places such as that for stress in their economies and possible recessions? What happens when thousands of jobs go unfilled?

Then that is the second time he has put people in jeopardy to gain an
advantage in immigration negotiations. The first time was undoing Obama's dreamer policy. Reminds me of a gift shop I worked in once. A woman was caught stealing a t shirt that she would then get a refund for. Trump is treating childhood trauma like a drifter treats goods. Trump is much worse.
Is Trump going international with his populist movement?
Ex-Trump campaign officials are now appearing with pro-Moscow separatist leaders:

Also the American Ambassador to germany claimed he was going to grow right wing populism in Germany:

Trudeau's response to Trump calling him weak and a liar:

And we have the reason why Republicans are so outraged by good health care.
Poor people who die early in life don't vote.
