Kamala Harris' 2020 campaign raised $1.5 million in its first day
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) raised $1.5 million from 38,000 online donors in the 24 hours after she announced her 2020 presidential run, according to her campaign.
Why it matters: Harris has said she will reject corporate PAC money to fund her campaign, making these grassroots donations the average was $37 crucial to her bid for the White House. Small-dollar, online donations helped Democratic candidates at all levels across the country in the 2018 midterms and Harris' success suggests the momentum is still there for the 2020 cycle.

Wow!
AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley and Ro Khanna all won spots on Oversight Committee
Rep. Dan Kildee, a member of the Democratic steering panel, said he was excited about the progressive picks.
I want people to be aggressive, especially on that committee. Its good to have people who arent afraid, the Michigan Democrat said in an interview. Theyre going to be dealing with some pretty important stuff.

Ben & Jerry's lies to consumers about their ingredients - says their cows are in a "Caring Dairy"
program, when in fact, they are sourcing typical factory dairy farms. Too bad, as I love their Cherry Garcia.
Glyphosate Pressure Grows on Ben & Jerrys after Motion to Dismiss Lawsuit Fails
Organic Consumers Association (OCA) today announced that the District of Columbia Superior Court rejected Ben & Jerrys motion to dismiss a lawsuit OCA brought against the Unilever-owned brand in July 2018 under the District of Columbia Consumer Protection Procedures Act (CPPA).
We are pleased that the court agrees that Ben & Jerrys can be held accountable for the claims it makes about its products, and how the production of those products impacts animal welfare and the environment, said Ronnie Cummins, OCAs international director. This is a major victory for millions of consumers who have been deceived by Ben & Jerrys marketing claims.
OCA sued Ben & Jerrys for the deceptive labeling, marketing and sale of its ice cream products as humanely sourced and environmentally responsible, despite the fact that ingredients are sourced from typical factory dairy farms and some of the products contain traces of glyphosate, an environmentally harmful biocide and the key active ingredient in Monsantos Roundup® weedkiller.
------
The court also agreed that Ben & Jerrys general messages about humane treatment of cows in the Caring Dairy program and values-led sourcing may mislead customers into believing that Ben & Jerrys uses ingredients only from dairy farms with higher-than-average animal welfare standards, when the evidence may suggest otherwise.

Love it - they all have some attitude. "We did not come to play."
the NEW WAVE
Freshman Democrats Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Deb Haaland, Veronica Escobar, and Sharice Davids have sought to project one message since setting foot in Washington: We did not come to play. All six women, along with dozens of others, represent the new face of the Democratic Partyyoung, nonwhite, L.G.B.T.Q., disproportionately female. In the few months since theyve overtaken the Hill, they have indeed proved that playing is not on their agenda. Ocasio-Cortez and Omar have earned the support of veteran lawmakers in their push to make climate change a priority when Congress reconvenes this montha movement that gained notoriety in large part thanks to the formers barnstorming of Nancy Pelosis office. With midterms fast receding, the real test lies in the months to come. Theres so many people that know that were going into the lions den, Ocasio-Cortez said in November, even within the party.
