It's a crisis and we need to act NOW

As our leaders are not actively engaged in addressing this, it's up to the rest of us to goad them to action.

Thanks for posting this HS! This reply is directed to all who are reading this thread!

I recommend getting involved in whatever way you can -- here are some links for people to consider:

http://citizensclimatelobby.org/ -- they are promoting a Carbon and Fee dividend that, if enacted, would take us quickly to a spot where we can start addressing the many many other issues involved in this. More info on CF&D here: http://citizensclimatelobby.org/carbon-fee-and-dividend/ -- I am involved in my local chapter in a very RED area. We are making some headway -- as crazy as that sounds.

https://www.climaterealityproject.org/ -- if you are able to make presentations, like to persuade people, to inform people, they have a presentation you can be trained to give in your community. I do this -- it helps. There are still people for which this is news as our media sucks.

http://350.org/ -- they are very action focused. If you like to work with others in your community on drawing physical attention to this crisis -- this is your group. I am also involved with this group but not as much as the first two listed above.

The idea here is -- GET INVOLVED! There is no time for despair or wringing of hands. It's all hands on deck. You are needed.

As Naomi Klein has stated, “To change everything we need everyone”

We need you to be involved in this -- not just reading about it.

This made this top 20 list of political songs of all time

Being white and politically active - including active on race issues - I had not heard this song before. I was a kid when this came out but still you would think sometime in the last 50 years, this would have crossed my path. My husband who has been politically aware and is older than me, he hadn't heard it before I played it for him last night either. We are white.

Here she is performing this in Holland 1965

Again, thanks for posting this.

As long as this is an Al Gore thread...

This video is like a tonic. I watch this when I begin to doubt we can fix this ... but we will turn this craziness around ... we just need to do it together and we will.

You're welcome.

This video includes quotes from George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, House Speaker Boehner, Senator John McCain and others talking about how they see Climate Change as a threat, that it is real and that it is human caused.

From my email from climate reality project: "Climate change might certainly cause some sleepless nights, but what's happening tonight on Capitol Hill is something entirely new.

Starting right now, 6:30 pm EST, 30 passionate Senators -- including members of the Senate Climate Action Task Force -- are taking to the Senate floor to talk nonstop about climate change through the wee hours of the morning. They're attempting to elevate the urgency of climate disruption -- because it truly is one of the most important issues of our time.

We wanted to make sure you knew this was happening tonight -- very soon in fact -- so we hope you'll take a few minutes to be a part of this historic event.

Here's how you can get involved:

Follow along on Twitter using the hashtag #Up4Climate
Watch the event live starting at around 6:30 pm EDT here
Spread the word on Twitter and Facebook, forward this email, or use an old-fashioned telephone and call your friends and have them join you!

Good lord yes, this WAS due to Climate Change

The warming oceans, the warming air lend themselves to larger storms. This is the cost of all that carbon released into our atmosphere from our energy choices over the past 100 years. Our atmosphere is nearing full capacity for carbon to support life as we know it and yet, we still have media and people not educating themselves on the effects that will happen more and more if we continue to ignore and deny this problem.

The International Panel on Climate Change, in their fifth assessment that came out at the end of September, stated unequivocally that Climate Change is happening and that humans are causing it. http://www.ipcc.ch/

And there will be more and more of these extreme weather events until we agree to work together on a global level. And the longer we wait to address this, the more we hem and haw about 'hunh, I wonder if climate change could be behind this, the fewer options we have to address it.

This is NOT for some future generation's benefit.

This is for RIGHT NOW FOLKS!

The Price of Carbon

Got this from the Climate Reality page...

&feature=player_embedded

Carbon pollution is not only disrupting our lives, it’s hitting our wallets. Comedian and musician Reggie Watts shows how, laying out the billion-dollar connection between fossil-fuel energy and dirty weather events like Superstorm Sandy caused by carbon pollution.

We’ve all been paying the bill for years, but now it’s got to stop and you can help. Share this with your friends and tell our leaders it’s time to put a price on carbon and make the polluters pay.
