Brigid's JournalSmall example of what's happened to the American worker over the past 30+ years:
I am watching a documentary about Chicago. Basically it takes you on a tour of the el system and talks about the history of the city and the neighborhoods. While talking about Pilsen, which is now mostly Hispanic but was once the home of many Czech immigrants, they mentioned that many of these people worked at a huge Western Electric facility that once stood just to the west. It once employed 40,000, but closed in 1986.
Wow. That's 40,000 jobs lost right there. That's a lot of jobs.
Does anybody know if this is true?
I just heard on a "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" episode that reefers soaked in embalming fluid go for $20 a pop. True?
Dear stupid people smoking inside the bus shelter:
There are great big NO SMOKING signs prominently on display. Said signs also mention fines and arrests for violators. Can't you read? There is a pregnant lady standing next to me, I have a heart condition, and there are kids around here too.The world doesn't revolve around you and your stinking habit! I hope a cop having a bad day comes by.
Small sign that might be pointing to an improving economy:
I live about five miles NE of the Indy airport. Often, especially at night, planes coming in follow a flight path that takes them right over my building, or close to it. Most of the nighttime planes are FedEx; they have a hub here. Lately, it seems like there are a lot more planes than I'm used to seeing. Could it be that FedEx is busier lately?
Well, it's midnight. Here we go.
I think I'll go to bed now. My head hurts from doing this all day.
