Brigid's JournalThinking of this classic song a lot lately:
Right now I happen to be watching footage of Kent State.
It's included in a brief account of the incident in "America: The Story of Us." It shows the National Guard troops in a line, advancing on students. Some things never change. But interestingly, even those troops weren't wearing the kind of getup we've seen on the cops in Ferguson. I don't think they were even wearing bulletproof vests.
The shite is really hitting the fan now.
Looks like flash grenades and tear gas. People running, LRADs. Wow. I swear the cops are trying to provoke trouble.
Chris Hayes is back live again now.
Looks like there may be trouble; MRAPs again, but he says he doesn't see or smell any tear gas.
Why does this Ferguson Police chief Thomas Jackson guy seem to be deliberately fanning the flames?
He announces the identity of the shooter, only said shooter is nowhere to be found, and releases that videotape without consulting anyone. He comes off as more than a little unhinged in TV. Happily, relative calm still prevails in Ferguson -- no thanks to Jackson. Violence can only make things worse for him. What gives?
"The End of the World."
I love those cheesy disaster movies on SyFy -- they're like crack cocaine!
I wonder if Ferguson MO will turn out to be . . .
The spark I predicted would happen sooner or later. If so, I was wrong about one thing: I said it would probably be something insignificant that would finally do it, but an 18-year-old kid being shot dead by cops for no reason is not insignificant. Anybody else feel a sense of unreality here?
I would have booted her out too.
