God, what is it about that nasty little Frick that makes my skin crawl and my blood pressure shoot up? He makes today's CEO's, bad as they are, look like boy scouts.

Just saw "The Call." **NO SPOILERS**

When I first heard about it, I thought it sounded stupid. But I rented it from RedBox anyway. It was much better than I thought it would be. And the actor playing the psycho killer looks so much like The Governor in "The Walking Dead," I thought it was him. It wasn't, but if the ever need two guys to play brothers, they're it.

I wonder what actors think while they're playing roles like this, pretending to do things they would never dream of doing in real life.

"Run Forrest run!"

I was just at a crowded bus stop downtown, and this bus had just pulled away, and this tall, skinny guy goes running by -- I mean he was moving! He must have been on the track team back in high school. Apparently it was vitally important that he catch that bus. And yes, everybody was yelling "Run Forrest run!"

Weird dream I just had.

I fell asleep on the couch, and dreamed I was holding onto a blue and yellow 747 as it was flying. Then it reached some sort of futuristic-looking airport. It circled around, and several other blue and yellow 747s were diving in for landings. Then my plane started to dive, and I woke up. Freaky.

I just saw "World War Z." **POSSIBLE SPOILERS **

It was pretty cool. Kind of hard to spoil it since everyone knows it's about a worldwide zombie outbreak, but read no further if you don't want any spoilers.


I found the zombies themselves rather interesting. They look pretty much like the standard-issue zombies of "The Walking Dead" or "Night of the Living Dead," and they have just as little brain power. But unlike the stumbling ghouls we are used to, these are capable of quick, coordinated movements. In large groups, they swarm like army ants. In that they are like the ones in Max Brooks' novel. But the book and the movie are otherwise very different.

Anybody else watching tonight's "Love It Or List It?"

This house has got to be the worst I have ever seen. I can't believe these people have been living like this for 33 years! I feel sorry for Hillary.

Scary But Salient Point in Chuck Thompson's "Better Off Without 'Em":

This book is a hilarious but solid polemic about the North and the South parting ways because for various cultural, historical, and political reasons they will never get along. I rarely re-read a book (too many others to read), but this one is worth it. I will be skipping the upcoming chapter on college football (it bores me), but it's a great read. I'd forgotten just how funny it is. I may not be quite as ready to write off the South as a hopeless case as Thompson is, but at least he makes a convincing argument. Here's one chilling paragraph from a great screed about Southern militarism that I can't believe I missed the first time:

Here's a secret Intel bulletin for y'all who've never left Yoknapatawpha County and imagine the United States is constantly on the precipice of enemy invasion -- the only way this country is ever going to surrender its liberty to a foreign power is if it keeps electing corrupt officials who auction it away to multinational corporations and overseas government interests in exactly the fashion that southern star chambers have been doing to their own people throughout their entire dyspeptic history.
