Why is it some men get all offended if a woman they don't know is wary around them?
Just a few minutes ago, I was standing at the bus stop, and some guy said "hi" as he walked by. I said "hi" in return; but instead of just going on his way, he stopped and said, Are you staying out of trouble?" I just gave him a look I seem to have inherited from my mother, and he got all huffy before he went on down the street. BTW, my mother also taught me not to talk to strange men. Every mother worth her salt teaches her daughters that. Why should I be obliged to drop my guard just to avoid offending some guy I never saw before, and won't see again? I don't see any reason myself.

I don't know where else to post this. I was reading an article in Good Reads called What Afghan Women Want. I was using a computer at school. After a minute or two, a big FBI seal came on the screen, and there was a message saying something about a copyright violation and demanding that I pay a $200 fine immediately using some service I never heard of. There were flashing lights, and a message said a video camera was operating. I don't know if this is some sort of scam or what, but something is obviously very wrong. MIRT needs to lock the thread.

So "conservative is mainstream in Indiana," you say? Really? You presume far too much. Have you forgotten that in 2008 we went for a Democrat for President for the first time since 1964? Even Vigo County, as full of mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, slack-jawed morons as it is, went for Obama.
Speaking of Vigo County, Terre Haute, where my family has unfortunately lived since the late '70's, is a poster child for what conservative ideology has done to this state. You used to be able to get a working-class job in that town and support a family. Now, after decades of bleeding jobs, Vigo County is one of the poorest in the state. Hopelessness is the order of the day.
Then again, maybe you're right -- conservatism does rule most of this Godforsaken hellhole of a state. Thank God for Indianapolis, where I live now -- not the most progressive city in the country, but it'll do. Without it, this state would be unlivable; and all I'd have to look forward to would be leaving.
