Back to school photos of students without masks spark controversy

Source: CBS 46

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. (CBS46) -- Back to school photos that circulating on social media from several metro Atlanta counties are facing negative attention.

Health experts say school re-openings must include effective COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, face coverings and social distancing to maximize safety. But, some Georgia students who have returned to class are not following those measures.

A photo posted on Sequoyah High School's Instagram page shows dozens of students huddled together for a back to school picture. After on-line criticism, the photo was deleted from the account

A similar picture of students outside of Etowah High School in Woodstock shows teens bunched together on a school sidewalk with no face coverings in sight.

Fox News Hit With Lawsuit Alleging Sexual Misconduct by Top Talent

Source: Hollywood Reporter

Fox News has been hit with a kitchen sink suit, replete with trigger warning, as a complaint was filed on Monday in New York federal court alleging sexual misconduct by some of its top hosts including Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.

Jennifer Eckhart, a former associate producer on Fox Business Network, is a co-plaintiff in the suit. The most serious claim pertains to Eckhart's allegation that she was raped by former White House chief correspondent Ed Henry, who earlier this month was fired by Fox News as a result of the charge.

"On July 1, 2020, Fox News disclosed to the public that it had terminated Mr. Henry based on the findings of an internal investigation, and purported to take credit for acting appropriately," states the complaint. "However, nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, Fox News knew that Mr. Henry had engaged in sexual misconduct as far back as early 2017. At that time, when Fox News was conducting a company-wide investigation into issues of sexual harassment, multiple women came forward to complain that Mr. Henry had engaged in sexually inappropriate conduct towards them."

Fox News now faces a sex trafficking claim as a result of Eckhart's rape allegation.

Good info about new normal housing market

Good graphs at link showing
individual metro area impacts

https://www.curbed.com/2020/5/21/21264167/coronavirus-housing-market-prices

The economy is tanking. So why aren’t home prices dropping?

Snip

Usually, a huge drop in demand would put downward pressure on prices; home sellers would be competing with each other to attract a limited number of buyers by dropping their asking price. But while housing demand has dropped substantially, housing supply also dropped in lockstep as potential home sellers pulled out of the market for many of the same reasons buyers are.

Snip

While both supply and demand have dropped, the relationship between the two went largely unchanged, meaning the drops in supply and demand were generally proportional to each other. Furthermore, home sales also dropped after the pandemic hit, and it’s hard for prices to move when there aren’t as many housing transactions to make prices move in aggregate. Together, this leaves prices much where they were before the pandemic.

Snip

While the current conditions haven’t led to a short-term price drop, the long-term economic trends induced will likely effect prices in the future. Zillow economist Skylar Olsen says Zillow is forecasting a price drop of 2 to 3 percent through the end of 2020, depending on the city, compared to where prices were in February.

BREAKING: Georgia governor to order shelter in place to curb coronavirus

Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution

Gov. Brian Kemp on Wednesday said he is preparing a statewide shelter-in-place order across Georgia to try to curb the spread of a coronavirus pandemic that’s sickened thousands and is linked to the deaths of at least 139 residents.

The new rules, which he will issue on Thursday, are set to run from Friday through April 13. He also said he would immediately sign an order that would close K-12 schools through the rest of the academic year.

He said his decision was triggered by "game-changing” new projections on the disease’s spread in Georgia. He also said he was informed of new data that this virus “is now transmitting before people see signs.”

“Those individuals could have been infecting people before they ever felt that. We didn’t know that until the last 24 hours,” he said.
