Senator: Taking of Salt Lake City school lunches ‘abuse of power’

Utah lawmakers are questioning school lunch policies after the seizure of lunches Tuesday from nearly 40 students with outstanding account balances at Uintah Elementary.

Sens. Jim Dabakis, D-Salt Lake City, and Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, visited the school Thursday, holding a press conference outside before joining kids for meals inside. Weiler called the incident "bullying."

"To me this rises to the level of bullying," Weiler said. "Children were humiliated." Weiler said he thinks someone should be fired over the matter.

"I think it’s an abuse of power," Weiler said. "This person came into a school and used her power to humiliate and embarrass children and I think we ought to draw a line and say that’s not acceptable behavior."

The idea of the giving the children their food, and then the taking it and and throwing it away -- and worse, to do so in front of their friends and peers -- is both intimidating and humiliating.

- These are not the kind of lessons they should be teaching a child.

RT America·Published on Jan 29, 2014

In the shady world of American pharmaceuticals, there exists something known as "off-label" use, where drugs are marketed for other uses beside the one the FDA approved them for. Recently, Johnson & Johnson paid out $2.2 billion for paying doctors and pharmacists to sell their anti-psychotic drug, Risperdal, to elderly people with dementia. - Here's another kind of ''inequality'' between the inhuman, morally-deficient 1%ers and the rest of us. It's when it becomes the norm for corporations who fund and bribe ''our politicians'' so they can payoff the system to avoid going to prison for deliberate and willful crimes.

Because with ''campaign'' contributions, all is forgotten......

Ripping up the playground rulebook is having incredible effects on children at an Auckland school. Chaos may reign at Swanson Primary School with children climbing trees, riding skateboards and playing bullrush during playtime, but surprisingly the students don't cause bedlam, the principal says.

The school is actually seeing a drop in bullying, serious injuries and vandalism, while concentration levels in class are increasing. Principal Bruce McLachlan rid the school of playtime rules as part of a successful university experiment.

"We want kids to be safe and to look after them, but we end up wrapping them in cotton wool when in fact they should be able to fall over." Letting children test themselves on a scooter during playtime could make them more aware of the dangers when getting behind the wheel of a car in high school, he said.

"When you look at our playground it looks chaotic. From an adult's perspective, it looks like kids might get hurt, but they don't." Swanson School signed up to the study by AUT and Otago University just over two years ago, with the aim of encouraging active play.

However, the school took the experiment a step further by abandoning the rules completely, much to the horror of some teachers at the time, he said. When the university study wrapped up at the end of last year the school and researchers were amazed by the results.

Is America Ready For A Kinky Diaper-Wearing Governor?

The Young Turks ·Published on Jan 26, 2014

"Sen. David Vitter announced on Tuesday morning that he will run for governor of Louisiana in 2015.

"I believe that as our next governor I can have a bigger impact addressing the unique challenges and opportunities that we face in Louisiana," Vitter said in a Youtube video launching his gubernatorial run. Along with the 2.5-minute video, Vitter also unveiled a new website touting his credentials and soliciting contributions to his campaign.

The conservative Republican said that for now, he will continue to focus on his work in the Senate. While his "active campaign" won't start until next year, the senator has already begun laying the groundwork for it by holding hundreds of listening sessions across Louisiana. He said this will be his "last political job, elected or appointed. Period.""* Ana Kasparian, Dave Rubin (Rubin Report) and Desi Doyen (Green News Report) break it down.

- Louisiana elected a man governor who used to exorcise demons on the side. So I suppose this could be seen as an improvement???
