A 10-year-old Boy Scout won the praise of a local mayor as well as online observers Friday when the story of his decision to peacefully protest during the Pledge of Allegiance went viral.

Liam Holmes and his Cub Scout Pack had been invited to recite the pledge at a city council meeting at City Hall in Durham, North Carolina on Monday. After a discussion with his father about professional athletes who have taken a knee in recent years to protest police brutality and the police shootings of unarmed black Americans, Holmes decided to stage his own demonstration.

"What I did was took a knee against racial discrimination, which is basically [when] people are mean to other people of different colors," Holmes told CBS 17, an affiliate station in Durham.


Holmes' father expressed surprise and pride in an interview with the station, while Mayor Steve Schewel let the room know right away that the boy's protest was welcomed at City Hall.

US campaign finance laws are, well, less than ideal — or, as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put it in a House committee hearing this week, they make it “super legal” for lawmakers to be a “pretty bad guy.”

A viral video of Ocasio-Cortez during a hearing held by the House Oversight and Reform Committee on strengthening ethics rules for the executive branch swept across the internet this week. The video, put together by NowThis News, shows the high-profile New York Congress member playing a “lightning round” game with witnesses. The purpose: to highlight how it’s legal for congressional candidates to do a lot of shady stuff. And they’re held to a higher standard than the president.

“I’m going to be the bad guy, which, I’m sure, half the room would agree with anyway, and I want to get away with as much bad things as possible, ideally to enrich myself and advance my interests, even if that means putting my interests ahead of the American people,” Ocasio-Cortez said during the Wednesday hearing. “I have enlisted all of as my co-conspirators, so you’re going to help me legally get away with all of this.”

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman appears to have ‘lost’ the world’s most expensive painting. The Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece, Salvator Mundi, may hold the key to the Trump-Russia investigation. And, the artwork itself could be evidence of collusion.

Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘last’ masterpiece was to be unveiled on September 18 at the spellbinding new Louvre in Abu Dhabi, but the exhibit was put on a temporary hold, amid rumours the painting was lost.

The art world has become increasingly alarmed. After all, Salvator Mundi is the most expensive artwork ever sold. “Nobody outside the immediate Arab hierarchy knows where it is,” Da Vinci scholar Martin Kemp told The Times.

Questions are being raised. First, why did the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, an art novice, buy the masterpiece? Secondly, why did he overpay for it by $300 million? Even for the stupendously wealthy Prince Mohammed bin Salman, that’s not just a simple rounding error. How do you misplace a $450 million painting anyway?

We can also reveal Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating both the buyer and the seller of the Da Vinci masterpiece as part of the Trump-Russia investigation.

All the intrigue suits Salvator Mundi’s already storied past well, but as I write this, no-one has seen the rare masterpiece in over a year, and its exact whereabouts have been unknown for over 100 days.

The Salvator Mundi was previously owned by Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev, who bought it in 2013 for $127 million instead of its valued $80 million. Rybolovlev is under investigation by Mueller for purchasing 45*’s Palm Beach mansion for $54 million more than it was worth.

In August 2016, Erik Prince arranged and attended a meeting at Trump Tower with Israeli Joel Zamel & George Nader. Nader told Don Jr. that the Saudi and Emirati princes wanted to help Trump become president, using Zamel’s company Psy-Group to manipulate social media.

The painting was sold at auction in November 2017 for over $300 million more than expected; MBS paid a total of $450 million for it. Representatives of MBS and the UAE were bidding against each other, driving the price up. Art sales are a well known method of money laundering.

Saudi affair exposes Trumpism's moral apathy

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump has dug a moral hole through the middle of America's foreign policy -- and he's not sorry at all.

The President's reaction to the apparent murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul offers the clearest evidence yet of his turn away from a foreign policy rooted in universal human values.

The crisis is instead showcasing Trump's radical form of "America First" realpolitik, his promise not to infringe other nations' sovereignty with lectures on human rights and his trust in the word of autocrats.

In his unrepentant conduct of American foreign policy, Trump is lurching from a path taken by every president since World War II, who all believed to various degrees that American leadership was needed to create a world safe for democracy, open commerce and freedom.

And it will be seen around the world as an unmistakable sign that there is no cost for heinous behavior -- after all, it happened days after a US-based journalist for a top American newspaper was apparently killed before his body was reportedly chopped up in an official Saudi government building.

Trump's Kentucky Campaign Chair convicted of child sex trafficking, faces life in prison.

Trump's Kentucky Campaign Chair will spend the rest of his life in jail after being convicted of child sex trafficking.

Nolan will serve 20 years in jail & pay restitution of $110,000 to the Kentucky Human Trafficking Victims Fund.

71-year-old Timothy Nolan — a former Campbell County District Judge who was chair of the Trump campaign in Kentucky according to court documents — entered guilty pleas on all 21 counts against him in court on Friday. A press release issued by the office of Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear listed a multitude of charges, including human trafficking of adults, human trafficking of minors, and unlawful transaction with minors.

Nolan will serve 20 years in jail and pay restitution of $110,000, with a bulk of the fine going toward the Human Trafficking Victims Fund, which the Kentucky General Assembly established in 2013. Nolan will be eligible for parole in 2022, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. If he had not entered guilty pleas, Nolan would have faced up to 100 years in prison.

The New York Daily News reported that Nolan had a total of 19 victims dating back to 2004. While the victims’ information has not been publicly released, some of them included children below the age of 18. Judge Kathleen Lape said Nolan threatened arrest and eviction to force women and girls to have sex with him. Nolan also apparently paid the women and juveniles with heroin and painkillers, and gave alcohol to a minor on more than one occasion.
