Hey DU members! The theme for the August Photo Contest is Portals. Please choose the image that you feel is the best interpretation of Portals. The interpretation may be of a spiritual or physical nature, or something else. There is room for broad interpretation here, and creativity is always a plus.
The top three vote-getters in this thread will move on to the finals. Voting in the preliminaries will close at 5:00pm on the 23rd (that's this coming Friday).
CONTEST LICENSE:

Neither Demopedia and/or a linked Gallery may use any photograph submitted for any purpose other than to display the photograph being submitted by the entrant, and neither gains any real or implied ownership rights to the photograph.

We took a drive over to the coast yesterday
It hovered around and above 100° here the last several days, so my wife and I drove over to the coast at Point Reyes. It was afternoon, and the fog and clouds were coming back in:
First stop was Tomales Bay State Park:
Johnstones Trailhead. I'm nursing a foot injury, so we didn't walk it this time. It's nice along there:
Drove out through the Tule Elk Reserve. Saw three gorgeous elk right by the side of the road, and of course the camera was in the bag on the back seat. I think my wife might have snapped them with her cellphone before they loped off. Those elk looked enormous.
Point Reyes has a cool light house at the opposite end of the park from the elk reserve, but that area was closed off, so we ended the day at Point Reyes Beach North.
So, instead of cool lighthouse and enormous elk photos, you get boring seascapes. The beaches in Northern California often look like this during summer.
My attempt at some kind of mood photo. The sun is actually out there on the horizon but I didn't capture it well, so I probably should have just cropped it out:
These two were sitting out drinking wine and enjoying the view. Temps were in the 60's, so it wasn't cold.
I'll see if I can find my wife's elk photo to make up for this. Just really wanted to post something.
