Mothers of Black Victims Emerge as a Force for Hillary Clinton

Mothers of Black Victims Emerge as a Force for Hillary Clinton
By AMY CHOZICK APRIL 13, 2016

The Clinton campaign named this sisterhood forged in the shared loss of a child the “Mothers of the Movement,” and they have become an unlikely linchpin of Mrs. Clinton’s success in the Democratic primary. At campaign stops, Mrs. Clinton introduces them as “a group of mothers who belong to a club no one ever wants to join.” The mothers will arrive in New York this week to help Mrs. Clinton compete for the April 19 primary.

MoveOn director blasts superdelegate harassment

MoveOn director blasts superdelegate harassment
By NICK GASS 04/13/16 08:52 AM EDT

The Washington director of the progressive advocacy group MoveOn.org, which voted to endorse Bernie Sanders earlier this year, denounced strongly on Wednesday efforts by un-allied Sanders supporters to threaten superdelegates backing Hillary Clinton.

“I have to say we should leave harassment of superdelegates to the Republicans. They seem to have that market cornered. But frankly, there’s no place for harassing anyone, really in either party in American politics. This should be a contest of ideals and issues," said Ben Wikler in an interview with CNN's "New Day."

Over the weekend, NPR reported on a man named Spencer Thayer who launched a website on April 4 initially titled "Superdelegate Hit List," soliciting contact information for Clinton superdelegates in order to get in touch with them and persuade them.

I Used to Support Bernie, but Then I Changed My Mind

I Used to Support Bernie, but Then I Changed My Mind
I have a variety of concerns about both candidates’ campaigns. But I intend to vote for Hillary Clinton in the California primary for one fundamental reason.
By Tom Hayden YESTERDAY 11:17 AM

I intend to vote for Hillary Clinton in the California primary for one fundamental reason. It has to do with race. My life since 1960 has been committed to the causes of African Americans, the Chicano movement, the labor movement, and freedom struggles in Vietnam, Cuba and Latin America. In the environmental movement I start from the premise of environmental justice for the poor and communities of color. My wife is a descendant of the Oglala Sioux, and my whole family is inter-racial.

What would cause me to turn my back on all those people who have shaped who I am? That would be a transgression on my personal code. I have been on too many freedom rides, too many marches, too many jail cells, and far too many gravesites to breach that trust. And I have been so tied to the women’s movement that I cannot imagine scoffing at the chance to vote for a woman president. When I understood that the overwhelming consensus from those communities was for Hillary—for instance the Congressional Black Caucus and Sacramento’s Latino caucus—that was the decisive factor for me.
