In Ohio, which is so critical to Donald Trump’s electoral fortunes, it is Hillary Clinton who has extended her lead and is now up six points, 46 percent to 40 percent; she was up four points in July. Clinton has made gains among women, and remains bolstered by a nearly-unified Democratic base. She wins 90 percent of Democrats, while Trump remains hampered by just enough reluctant Republicans: He’s at 79 percent of GOPers.

Democrats have a 78 percent chance of getting 50-plus seats in November, the HuffPost Senate model shows.

The biggest electoral question of the year is undoubtedly who becomes the next president. But just after that follows the issue of whether the Senate majority will flip again. Republicans took the chamber with a 54-46 seat majority in the 2014 midterm elections. Keeping that lead in 2016, however, will prove a more difficult task.
According to The Huffington Post’s Senate model, which relies on the polls aggregated in HuffPost Pollster charts, there’s a 55 percent chance that the Senate will swing completely over ― and a 23 percent chance that it’s tied at 50 seats for each party. That means there’s a 78 percent chance that the Democratic Party could get 50 or more seats.

He said that Trump should “concentrate on his natural constituency, which is white people,” suggesting that winning 65 percent of the white vote would overwhelm any Democratic gains with minorities.
At Trump’s rally in Charlotte, one of the first of the Bannon era, the message was sinking in. Frances Johnson, 68, said that the polls were not reflecting Trump’s real level of support and that she sometimes emailed the campaign with ideas on how to change that. The pitch to black voters, she said, was smart.
“I really don’t think that African Americans want to be stuck where they are,” Johnson said. “They’re basically glorified slaves — they get free this, free that, free this, free that, and they can’t get a good job and depend on the government. What else do you call it?”

The new July jobs report released Friday is an utter disaster for Kansans and embattled Gov. Sam Brownback.
Here are the lowlights.
▪ The state lost 5,600 jobs from June to July.
▪ The unemployment rate jumped to 4.1 percent from 3.8 percent in June.
▪ Over the last year, Kansas has actually shed 4,500 jobs.
▪ The Sunflower State’s “growth” rate over that 12 months is a minus 0.3 percent — 5th worst in the nation. Only Wyoming, North Dakota, Louisiana and Oklahoma were behind Kansas.
▪ Kansas had employment of 1,395,700 in July 2016 — or a stunning 600 fewer jobs than when Brownback’s second term started way back in January 2015.

Clinton is ahead of Trump 50 percent to 40 percent in a head-to-head match-up, according to a poll commissioned by End Citizens United, a liberal-leaning public interest group working to rid large money from politics.
In a four-way race with Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Clinton's lead is reduced to eight points. Clinton receives 45 percent to Trump's 37 percent. Johnson polls at eight percent and Stein at four percent.
As concerns grow about Trump's drag on Republicans running down ballot, this poll shows there's reason for concern. Democrats lead Republicans when asked which party they' d vote for in a Congressional race by seven points: 48 - 41 percent.
