Here is what wikipedia says about Bezos.

Jeffrey Preston Bezos (/ˈbeɪzoʊs/;[a][2] né Jorgensen; born January 12, 1964) is an American businessman, media proprietor, and investor. He is best known as the founder, CEO, and president of the online retail company Amazon. The first centi-billionaire on the Forbes wealth index, Bezos has been the world's richest person since 2017 and was named the "richest man in modern history" after his net worth increased to $150 billion in July 2018.[3] In September 2018, Forbes described him as "far richer than anyone else on the planet" as he added $1.8 billion to his net worth when Amazon became the second company in history to reach a market cap of $1 trillion.

Born in Albuquerque and raised in Houston and later Miami, Bezos graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science. He worked on Wall Street in a variety of related fields from 1986 to early 1994. He founded Amazon in late 1994 on a cross-country road trip from New York City to Seattle. The company began as an online bookstore and has since expanded to a wide variety of other e-commerce products and services, including video and audio streaming, cloud computing, and AI. It is currently the world's largest online sales company, the largest Internet company by revenue, and the world's largest provider of virtual assistants[4] and cloud infrastructure services through its Amazon Web Services branch.

Bezos founded the aerospace manufacturer and sub-orbital spaceflight services company Blue Origin in 2000. A Blue Origin test flight successfully first reached space in 2015, and the company has upcoming plans to begin commercial suborbital human spaceflight.[5] He also purchased the major American newspaper The Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million in cash, and manages many other investments through his Bezos Expeditions venture capital firm.

Before I look it up on the internet going to assume that

pellucidly is defined as smells like dead fish at peak of foul odor.

Oops pellucidly means easily understood.

Well it is easily understood that Trump at least metaphorically has an odor that wreaks of dead fish.

Happen to have this video handy.

Matt Taibbi has left Rolling Stone and gone independent.

Taibbi has ebbed as a favorite at DU. IMO Taibbi is one of the few investigative journalists.

Announcement to Readers: I'm Moving

Substack is now my full-time job.

From now on, my online writing will be published on Substack. This is my full-time job now.

I first started writing for Rolling Stone in 2003 and will continue a relationship with my good friends there, contributing print features and also maintaining the Useful Idiots podcast with Katie Halper. I love Rolling Stone and have been proud to represent the magazine over the years. If anyone cares to know, I wasn’t asked to leave.

I’ve been thinking about this for some time. Having had experience with Substack – I’ve serialized two books here in the last few years, including Hate Inc.– I believe the path for independent journalists is in a subscriber-based model.

There was another earthquake today off the coast of Humboldt county

Today's earthquake was 4.8 after last weeks earthquake of 5.2 (that occurred the same day as the recent Utah earthquake that caused the angel Moroni to lose his trumpet. I did not think the events were linked but maybe wrong?

Seems likely that there will be some fundamental changes in how the USA operates post

the corona virus given the stark inadequacies we now face.

One can reasonably predict that the USA will reach a deflection point only comparable to:

1) Declaration of Independence and Revolutionary War

2) Civil War and end of slavery

3) Great Depression and WWII

There is great risk at hand. No doubt some elite "utopians" are looking at the pandemic as thinning the herd and opportunities for disaster capitalism. The situation could even degrade into hot war(s)

What do you predict for the political economy of the USA once "healed" from the corona virus pandemic?

One Case of Covid-19 (Previously Known as Novel Coronavirus) in Humboldt County

There was a press release today that there is a case in my home county (Humboldt county on north coast of California). There is nothing specific offered about the case (who, where, etc.) and info on local medical facilities and common sense.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Press release from the Department of Health and Human Services:

The Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services Public Health Branch has received confirmation from the California Department of Public Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of one case of COVID-19 in a Humboldt County resident. A close contact who has symptoms is being tested as well.

This marks the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in Humboldt County. Presently, the ill individuals are doing well and self-isolating at home, while being monitored for symptoms by the Public Health Communicable Disease Surveillance and Control Unit.

Close contacts of these individuals will also be quarantined at home and monitored for symptoms by Public Health staff. With the amount of foreign travel by county residents, including travel to China, it is not surprising that a case has emerged locally. Additional cases may occur either in returning travelers or their close contacts.

“It’s important to remember that the risk to the general public remains low at this time,” said Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich.

Cannabis farm was a model for California's legal industry. Then came a sheriff's raid

Source: LA Times via MSN.com

To marijuana industry boosters and Santa Barbara County officials, Barry Brand was one of the "good players," a longtime Gerbera daisy grower who pitched cannabis as just a new type of flower in the greenhouse.

When county officials gave reporters a tour of a licensed grow last year, they picked Brand's operation on Foothill Road to showcase how their regulations were working and would make it all but impossible to divert marijuana to the black market.

Last month the Santa Barbara County sheriff revealed a crease in this tidy snapshot. On Jan. 22, detectives served a search warrant at the farm and reported finding a stash of more than 100 gallons of concentrated cannabis oil, an extraction lab and evidence of "off-book" sales" — all illegal.

"They were considered to be sort of the models," said Bernard Melekian, the former undersheriff who became the county's cannabis czar last month. He chuckled about his predecessor taking The Times on a tour of the farm in May. "I realize there is a certain irony there."

I support legal marijuana but agree with ""I realize there is a certain irony there."

I am a Humboldt county native and current resident in old age and IMO there are many problems to be worked out in a commercial cannabis industry and like most anything else there are those that take personal advantage of the current situation. For one, it is blatantly obvious that the black market (edit to insert) "is necessary" to sell current production.

Trump Rule Would Exclude Climate Change in Infrastructure Planning

Trump Rule Would Exclude Climate Change in Infrastructure Planning

WASHINGTON — Federal agencies would no longer have to take climate change into account when they assess the environmental impacts of highways, pipelines and other major infrastructure projects, according to a Trump administration plan that would weaken the nation’s benchmark environmental law.

The proposed changes to the 50-year-old National Environmental Policy Act could sharply reduce obstacles to the Keystone XL oil pipeline and other fossil fuel projects that have been stymied when courts ruled that the Trump administration did not properly consider climate change when analyzing the environmental effects of the projects.

According to one government official who has seen the proposed regulation but was not authorized to speak about it publicly, the administration will also narrow the range of projects that require environmental review. That could make it likely that more projects will sail through the approval process without having to disclose plans to do things like discharge waste, cut trees or increase air pollution.

The new rule would no longer require agencies to consider the “cumulative” consequences of new infrastructure. In recent years courts have interpreted that requirement as a mandate to study the effects of allowing more planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. It also has meant understanding the impacts of rising sea levels and other results of climate change on a given project.
