Report: FBI moves to interview Clinton over emails

Report: FBI moves to interview Clinton over emails
by Julian Hatten * 3/31/16 * The Hill

Hillary Clinton and her top aides might be questioned by FBI officials about her private email server within the next few days, according to a new report from Al Jazeera America.

The news outlet reported that the FBI has concluded its examination of Clinton's email server and is in a “critical stage” of its investigation into concerns that the former secretary of State or her top aides mishandled classified information. The FBI is reportedly seeking to interview her along with her former chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, and ex-spokesman Philippe Reines.

The probe could be completed “in weeks not months,” the report added, citing unnamed law enforcement officials. The report also says that Justice Department prosecutors have joined the FBI's investigative team.
The news furthers speculation that the federal investigation is nearing a conclusion, nearly a year after it began.

Earlier in the week, the Los Angeles Times reported that the FBI was in the process of arranging interviews with former State Department officials, possibly including Clinton herself.

Bernie on Nicaragua and Cuba

I kept waiting for Bernie to quote John F. Kennedy,

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
~John F. Kennedy

That it was the unabated abuse of these nation's people by dictatorships propped up by USA that
made these violent revolutions "inevitable" ... and that we need to learn from this history.

Stars Aligned for Bernie: "Six Pieces of a Real Democracy Movement We've Never Had Before"

Six Pieces of a Real Democracy Movement We've Never Had Before
by Frances Moore Lappé * Wednesday, March 09, 2016 * Common Dreams

As perhaps never before in our history, all the pieces are in place for a democracy movement to take off in America, one strong enough to tackle the system-roots of our country's crises.

What? You don't see it?

I understand, because it is really hard to discern the democratic impulse in a political culture increasingly dominated by bluster, bullying, and blame, all bank-rolled by a tiny minority.

But here's all I ask -- that you take in the six key pieces below, and then imagine what they could add up to, and your place in them.

One: We're angry. Not handfuls of marginal "activists" but most Americans -- left, right, middle -- are really pissed. We know things are foundationally unfair, and getting worse -- in just the first three years after the '08 Wall St. crash, 91 percent of all income gains went to the top 1 percent. So today the 20 richest Americans hold as much wealth as the bottom half of our entire population. Twenty people? Please let this sink in. In the Manhattan coffee shop where I sit, that's the number in easy view. Incredible.

Two: We now know the system is rigged. We know that those making the rules in Washington and our state houses make them in the service of those who fund them, not the vast majority of us. Out of 120 million American households, just 158 families contributed nearly half the money in the early stage of the 2016 presidential election. No wonder 84 percent of American adults believe that money has too much influence in politics. We feel evicted from our home -- democracy itself.

I am so very proud of our candidate tonight.

Bernie has never given up, never wavered, never given an inch to the constant
barrage of dismissive insults, Establishment bullying & gloating, vicious baseless
attacks, M$M blackouts ... you name it.

Yet Bernie has kept his gracious composure throughout, has never changed his message,
but rather has refined it, always sticking to the truth and holding true to his passionate
commitment to the notion that We the People are the ultimate authority in the USA, NOT
those who feel they "already have theirs, so the rest of us can fuck-off" ..

Thank you Michigan for voting for a future that's more livable, fair and equitable for all !!

Thank you Bernie of never giving up !!

At HRC-Controlled Flint Debate: DNC/DWS Threatens to eject Michigan Mayor for Feeling the Bern

FLINT, Michigan — After expressing vocal support for Bernie Sanders during Sunday night’s debate, the independent mayor of Michigan’s third largest city says security warned him that he would be booted from Sunday’s Democratic debate here if he did not quiet down.

Jim Fouts, the three-term independent mayor of Warren, told BuzzFeed News Monday that he attended both the Republican and Democratic debates in Michigan over the past week. The audience at the GOP debate at the Fox theater in Detroit Thursday was loud. But the mood in the Whiting Auditorium on the campus of the Flint Cultural Center, where Sanders and Hillary Clinton met in one of their sharpest-elbowed debates to date, was very different, he said.

“The Democratic debate is totally controlled by Hillarys [sic] good friend DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz,” Fouts wrote on Facebook Monday. “No commentary is allowed by the audience. Particularly if you are cheering Bernie Sanders. Persons who do not adhere to Hillarys [sic] rules are threatened with expulsion.” ...

At the debate, Fouts sat in the center section of the hall, directly behind Wasserman Schultz, the DNC chair. Next to him was his longtime executive assistant. Fouts told BuzzFeed News that at multiple times during the beginning if the debate, he turned to his executive assistant, praised Sanders’ performance and said the Flint debate — added to the calendar after the initial set were announced — proved that more debates were a good idea.

“I was just saying ‘great job, Bernie!’ and ‘we need more debates,’” Fouts said. He said that at one point he vocally criticized Clinton for “wrapping herself around Obama.” He insisted he was speaking at a “normal conversation” level. Staff for the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia who were sitting near Wasserman Schultz and Fouts said he was being “very disruptive” and made it hard to hear the candidates.

Wasserman Schultz did not respond to a request for comment.

WashPo’s Obvious Bias: 16 Negative Stories About Bernie Sanders Published in Just 16 Hours

WashPo’s Obvious Bias: 16 Negative Stories About Bernie Sanders Published in Just 16 Hours
by Natasha Hakim Zapata * Mar 8, 2016 * TruthDig/Fair

According to the progressive media watchdog Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, The Washington Post has reached what the group says “has to be some kind of record” by posting an onslaught of 16 articles attacking the Vermont senator—all in less than a single day.

From Fair
In what has to be some kind of record, the Washington Post ran 16 negative stories on Bernie Sanders in 16 hours, between roughly 10:20 PM EST Sunday, March 6, to 3:54 PM EST Monday, March 7—a window that includes the crucial Democratic debate in Flint, Michigan, and the next morning’s spin ...

All of these posts paint his candidacy in a negative light, mainly by advancing the narrative that he’s a clueless white man incapable of winning over people of color or speaking to women. Even the one article about Sanders beating Trump implies this is somehow a surprise—despite the fact that Sanders consistently out-polls Hillary Clinton against the New York businessman. ... The Washington Post was sold in 2013 to libertarian Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who is worth approximately $49.8 billion.

Despite being ideologically opposed to the Democratic Party (at least in principle), Bezos has enjoyed friendly ties with both the Obama administration and the CIA. As Michael Oman-Reagan notes, Amazon was awarded a $16.5 million contract with the State Department the last year Clinton ran it. Amazon also has over $600 million in contracts with the Central Intelligence Agency, an organization Sanders said he wanted to abolish in 1974, and still says he “had a lot of problems with.” FAIR has previously criticized the Washington Post for failing to disclose, when reporting on tech giant Uber, that Bezos also owns more than $1 billion in Uber stock.

Before Flint, Hillary Clinton Voted Against Measure To Prevent Groundwater Pollution

Before Spotlighting Crisis In Flint MI, Hillary Voted Against Bill To Prevent Groundwater Pollution
BY ANDREW PEREZ & DAVID SIROTA * 03/04/16 * ibtimes.com

When the Democratic presidential contenders meet on Sunday for their debate in Flint, Michigan — where thousands of residents have been poisoned by polluted water — the candidates’ records on clean water policy are likely to be in the spotlight. Hillary Clinton seems eager for that discussion, recently telling NPR: “The idea that you would have a community in the United States of America of nearly 100,000 people who were drinking and bathing in lead-contaminated water infuriates me.”

But despite that rhetoric, the issue of clean water may be politically perilous for the leading Democratic candidate, thanks to her vote against banning a possible carcinogen at the center of one of the largest water pollution scandals in recent history.

Facing reports that a controversial fuel additive was contaminating water supplies across America, Clinton as a senator in 2005 opposed a bipartisan measure to ban the chemical — even though Bill Clinton’s Environmental Protection Agency had first proposed such a prohibition. At roughly the same time, one major company producing the chemical also tried to use provisions in a trade deal backed by Hillary Clinton to force local governments in the United States to let it continue selling the toxic compound.

Clinton’s campaign did not respond to International Business Times’ questions about her vote. ... Breaking with then-Sen. Barack Obama, Clinton joined 14 Republicans and 11 Democrats in voting against the measure to phase out MTBE, which passed the Senate by a vote of 70-26. ... When Clinton cast her vote against banning MTBE, she was in the midst of a re-election campaign in which she raised more than $74,000 from the oil and gas industry, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.
